BookThe Isle of Man region
Set in the Irish Sea, the Isle of Man is a unique destination with over 10,000 years of history. Surprisingly large at over 33 miles long and 13 miles wide, there is far more to the Isle of Man than, at first, meets the eye. Venture away from the capital, Douglas, and you’ll find rugged cliffs, sandy coves, miles of uncrowded beaches, enchanting glens and unspoilt countryside, where you can indulge your passion for the great outdoors as you meander through glorious wooded glens drinking in the colours of the purple heather covered moorland.
The ancient Celts, Vikings and Christians left the island with a legacy of their lifetime and all around the island you will find evidence of these early settlers - Celtic crosses, medieval fortresses and Viking burial grounds. Its most famous symbols are the Manx cat and the island’s emblem the three legs of Man whose meaning is “whichever way you throw me I stand”.
The Ballasalla area
Ballasalla is located in the South of the island near Castletown and the airport and ideally situated for exploring the island. The local pub is 100yds from the property, there is a post office, a Chinese Restaurant, and one of the best restaurants on the island Rushen Abbey within walking distance.
The Silverburn river runs through the village and there is a delightful walk up through Silverdale Glen and cafe within minutes of the property. There is a bus stop directly outside the property and buses runs approximately every 1/2 hour to Douglas and Castletown. The steam railway also runs through the village going south to Port St Mary and Port ertin via Castletown or north to Douglas.

Very large property, odd shape but allows for couples to have their own space. Would definitely recommend to others. |

The cottage was lovely, very well equipped & the location was perfect for what we wanted. Although we got the ferry over (about a 10 to 15 minute drive away) it is very close to the airport (no noise pollution though). The train station is just round the corner & there's a bus stop outside. There's also lots of information in the cottage including where the nearest shops are, chippy etc. I'd highly recommend the food in the pub over the road, we were just gutted we'd saved eating there until the last night! Big portions & great good value for money! I have nothing negative to say but I will comment on the wheelchair access. The main access to the property is round the back via 7 or so steps, there were ramps are available but it was quite steep This wasn't a problem for us as we had my brothers to help wheel my Dad up & down but those who are older/ not as strong might struggle. The front door isn't an alternative as it's not wide enough for a wheelchair. That said, once in Dad didn't have any issues moving round. A 2nd hand rail in the en suite would be good addition but not a show stopper. Electric isn't cheap on IOM, it cost us £100 for a week BUT we did have the heating on. This is an additional cost you should bear in mind when looking at rental cost. I'd highly recommend Lilac Cottage |

Lovely furnishings and lovely outside space - although too cold for February! Spacious - much more spacious than it looks on the site. Lovely touches like fresh bread, milk, tea and coffee for that... more |
