Lovingly restored from what used to be the tractor shed when I was a child, The Old Hovel, as it was then, is now a luxurious cottage for 2 +3 and retains the original oak beams. It has been 5* rated by Visit Wales as have all the properties at Bryn Melyn Farm and this basically translates as...exceptional, as endorsed by the fact that we are now finalists in the National Tourist Awards 2010.

The spacious entrance hall with quarry tiles leads into the inner hall. If you have walking or cycling equipment, then there is plenty of room for all that here. You could also wipe the muddy paws of your best friend here if he/she has been having a wonderful time in the surrounding 12 acres. There is a water hose on site for washing the mud off your bikes after those fantastic muddy cycle rides and a drying room for your clothes, so no need to worry about getting wet!

Once we're in the warmth of Yr Hen Hofel, we step out of the porch into the Inner hall which is equally spacious and has a tongue and groove latched door into the kitchen /diner which has everything to make your holiday an easy one, from dishwasher to washing machine, and fridge freezer to microwave. But it also has a very cosy farmhouse feeling, and yet offers a multitude of contemporary equipment!

The romantic and spacious double bedroom [can be a twin or converted to a superking bedroom] lies on the ground floor and has oak beams and an arched window suggesting the arched entrance for the tractors when Bryn Melyn was a working farm. It also has a sofa which could be used as an additional single bed. There is therefore a possibility of sleeping 3 children in this bedroom in 3 single beds and the 2 adults could be upstairs in the sitting room on the double sofa bed.

The sitting room is also beamed, and situated on the first floor. It is gloriously sunny and has a triple aspect offering unrivalled views. There is a door onto a small balcony where one can sit and take in your surroundings, whilst having a drink or perhaps reading a book.

The bathroom is also on the 1st floor and even this is beamed and has a separate power shower. If you wish, you could have a candlelit bath here to add to the romantic element.

North Wales is one of the most popular regions to visit with the incredible variety that it offers its visitors from castles, outstanding gardens and houses, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal which was recently given World Heritage Status and of course the multitude of exciting activities and visitor attractions offered in the Snowdonia National Park as well as a rich cultural experience.

Actually onsite in Bryn Melyn Farm, you have a private tennis court, a large games room/playroom with table tennis, table football, pool, snooker and darts, playing fields with goals, andpriavte fishing on the River Dee.

Also available in the area, you are well provided for in terms of local restaurants and pubs should you feel like taking a total break, including the catering!

The local pub is only 0.6 of a mile away offering food and regular live music. There is another pub within 2 miles of the farmhouse, not to mention the national award winning restaurant, Tyddyn Llan in Llandrillo. You could also enjoy a meal at the glorious Pale Hall, a Victorian Mansion within one mile of the farmhouse and now a luxurious hotel at which you could also partake of some morning coffee or afternoon tea. After all,Queen Victoria once stayed here when it was a private house and the station platform was extended at the time to receive the Royal train!

In addition to the abundance of local attraction mentioned above both locally and in the Snowdonia National Park, we ahve many facilities on site at Bryn Melyn Farm so that you don't even have to get in the car.

These include a private tennis court, a large games room/playroom with table tennis, table football, pool, snooker and darts, playing fields with goals and superb private fishing.

We have space for a marquee for about 120 guests and are currently applying for a licence to conduct weddings at the venue.

Onsite catering can be arranged for that special occasion or even if you don't feel like cooking!

For the birdwatchers amongst you, this is the ideal venue. We have a huge variety of birds to include owls which you can hear as they call to one another at night, the hypnotic call of the buzzards as they fly above the farm, and nesting in the courtyard this year 2009, we have had a redstart, a very rare and shy bird, which only goes to show what a peaceful location it is! Daily, there is an enormous variety of birds jostling for supremacy. We have a particularly well fed robin redbreast who enjoys any food left out for him on the maintenance shed! Some of our keen birdwatching guests have also enjoyed a day out to Lake Vyrnwy and its excellent birdwatching facility.

As for fishermen, you don't even have to get in the car!

We have a 3/4 mile of private fishing on the River Dee .

All you need is an Environment Agency Licence. We can offer permits for fly fishing for trout, salmon, and grayling in season.

If sailing is your passion, then Bala Lake within 5 miles or a 15 minute drive is the place for you.

Bring your own boat and park it in the parking area on the farm or hire a boat at the lakeside.

What could be easier.Other watersports are available there of course to include canoeing and kayaking. There is the white knuckle experience of white water rafting at nearby Tryweryn.

The annual Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July is within 20 minutes of the property.

There are numerous local eisteddfods [competitive festivals for the Arts] and our local Llandderfel Eisteddfod takes place on Good Friday every year.

There are sheepdog trials locally which were once made famous by the TV programme 'One Man and His Dog'

An International Sheepdog Trial winner lives locally and offers the opportunity to watch him and his dogs working.

They also offer quad biiking and other activities at the farm including watching the pet lambs beign fed in season.

There are a number of Male Voice Choirs in the area and it may be possible to go and watch a rehearsal.

The National Eisteddfod of Wales is in Wrexham in 2011 - you may have missed it this year 2009 in Bala, and of course, your International Opera Singer hostess adjudicating!

"Weekend party"

Stayed in this wonderful cottage just across from the main Farmhouse where we all shared in two evenings of fun. Plenty of room for everyone, comfortable accomodation and a beautiful setting. The nearby pub, which you could walk to, served traditional ale and we spent several enjoyable hours in there across the weekend.
