Yr Hen Hofel
About the home
Lovingly restored from what used to be the tractor shed when I was a child, The Old Hovel, as it was then, is now a luxurious cottage for 2 +3 and retains the original oak beams. It has been 5* rated by Visit Wales as have all the properties at Bryn Melyn Farm and this basically translates as...exceptional, as endorsed by the fact that we are now finalists in the National Tourist Awards 2010.
The spacious entrance hall with quarry tiles leads into the inner hall. If you have walking or cycling equipment, then there is plenty of room for all that here. You could also wipe the muddy paws of your best friend here if he/she has been having a wonderful time in the surrounding 12 acres. There is a water hose on site for washing the mud off your bikes after those fantastic muddy cycle rides and a drying room for your clothes, so no need to worry about getting wet!
Once we're in the warmth of Yr Hen Hofel, we step out of the porch into the Inner hall which is equally spacious and has a tongue and groove latched door into the kitchen /diner which has everything to make your holiday an easy one, from dishwasher to washing machine, and fridge freezer to microwave. But it also has a very cosy farmhouse feeling, and yet offers a multitude of contemporary equipment!
The romantic and spacious double bedroom [can be a twin or converted to a superking bedroom] lies on the ground floor and has oak beams and an arched window suggesting the arched entrance for the tractors when Bryn Melyn was a working farm. It also has a sofa which could be used as an additional single bed. There is therefore a possibility of sleeping 3 children in this bedroom in 3 single beds and the 2 adults could be upstairs in the sitting room on the double sofa bed.
The sitting room is also beamed, and situated on the first floor. It is gloriously sunny and has a triple aspect offering unrivalled views. There is a door onto a small balcony where one can sit and take in your surroundings, whilst having a drink or perhaps reading a book.
The bathroom is also on the 1st floor and even this is beamed and has a separate power shower. If you wish, you could have a candlelit bath here to add to the romantic element.

Stayed in this wonderful cottage just across from the main Farmhouse where we all shared in two evenings of fun. Plenty of room for everyone, comfortable accomodation and a beautiful setting. The nearby pub, which you could walk to, served traditional ale and we spent several enjoyable hours in there across the weekend. |
