About the home

Self-catering within an 18th C, grade-II listed, former Tithe Barn which has been carefully converted to retain the character of the building while providing modern comforts, including central heating. All bedrooms have en-suite luxury bathrooms with powerful showers and a whirlpool bath in each cottage. The Barn is of traditional construction with local stone, slit-windows, exposed roof beams and many original features and was converted in 2006.

The Tithe Barn has a sheltered, courtyard setting facing a rock-garden, with heathers, alpines and wild flowers, located in the grounds of Abercelyn Country House. There are views of Llanycil Church and churchyard, Lake Bala and the Berwyn mountains on the other side of the lake.

“Lovely Cottage, our third visit!” Stayed in Tithe Barn 2 with two friends. This cottage meets all our needs and we will be back. Lovely and clean, all facilities needed. Very easy to walk into Bala. Only thing left to ask for would be WiFi!

“Set in lovely surroundings with all the comforts at hand.” Tithe barn 2 was very comfortable for our family of 3. Owners have paid a lot of attention to home comforts, which made our stay very pleasant and enjoyable. The picturesque scenery from the barn is to be enjoyed.

“lovely character barn” our 2nd visit to Tithe barn 2. Homemade cake and milk on arrival. All kitchen essentials provided, dish washer tabs,wash powder, wash up liquid etc. All cooking utensils you need. Owners on site to help if any problems. One mile from Bala town. Lovely spot. Bike storage available. Will return again.

“Lovely warm well equiped cottages” A group of us stayed at all three cottages and had a lovely time. The cottages were all well equipped, were warm and we wanted for nothing. Easy access to the lake, to the town, to the sports centre, walking, cycling and canoeing. There is a shed where you can store bikes. Catering for a large group in the Poor House was easy. Tythe Barn 1 / 2 had all you needed for three/four people. Lindsay and Ray were welcoming and accommodating as usual. We have been returning to stay in the cottages and in the B&B for the past several years - can't endorse it better than that! This year Wales was really beautiful in the snow.

“Outdoor adeventure indoor comfort” We arrived into Bala the morning after the march blizzard to a wonderful welcome from Lindsay and Ray. The Tithe barm was warm and inviting and very comfortable, Lindsay had left an excellent lemmon drizzle cake for us. The location is superb beside the lake and mountains. The kids, 13 and 9, had a fabulous time and barely used their tablets all week. There was lots of outdoor activities and excellent day trips inc steam train, Portmerion village, Chester all closeby. Strongly advise you to try Roberts butchers in Bala, superb pies also the Eagle pub in the next village superb ale and great sunday cavery. Would love to return in summer for the white water and kayaking.

“Very comfortable accommodation, equipped to a high standard in a very convenient lakeside location.” The cottage was very homely well maintained and decorated and having en suite facilities in the two bedrooms was a great asset. The lounge area was comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. A welcome pack was provided as was a dishwasher (plus dishwasher tablets) and washing machine (with washing powder). For outdoor activites a drying room was available as were hiking poles, maps and suggested walks. In fact, everything that one needed for a self catering holiday in beautiful countryside was at the cottage. Included, free of charge, was the advice and recommendations of a qualified outdoor expert.

“Perfect cottage .. Perfect location!” Booked the cottage for new year with friends. Cottage was exactly as described.. Very cosy and perfect for four people. Made to feel very welcome on arrival by Ray. Cottage is only a mile away from the local village so perfect walking distance to the local pubs! Also great location for access to the lake and for walking. Would definitely recommend.

“Cosy, beautiful and relaxed cottage rental” Being a rather disorganised couple, we had to book last minute accommodation for our hiking trip to Wales very quickly. We were so lucky to find Abercelyn cottages! The booking process was swift and friendly, and we were delighted by the cottage itself: pretty, very clean and perfectly kitted out for self catering guests who want to do their own thing. We had such a warm welcome (including home made cake!) that we will definitely return here should we make our way back to Bala one day. Highly recommended!

“Clean, good facilities, warm, comfortable, well equipped.” Near enough to Bala to walk into the village (about 15mins) but is in the coutryside. Near to the lake, sports centre, fantastic base for cycling or water sports. We hired this and the other two cottages for a group of 12 to go cycling. Great road biking routes from the door, various mountain biking centres nearby. Shed to store bikes. Drying room. Friendly hosts. Wireless internet is available from the main house (where they do B&B) but not from the three cottages. If you sit near the house you can get internet. Bedrooms are downstairs and lounge and kitchen upstairs. All the facilities in the cottage that we needed, iron and board, washing machine, dishwasher, cooking equipment, TV, DVD, info on the area, parking. Bedrooms are small but had all we needed. We were in the double which has a large wardrobe cupboard, and sufficient drawers and a good shower in the bathroom. Can't think of anything I wanted that wasn't there. We were even welcomed with a home made cake and a pint of milk on arrival.

“the graveyard is rather dominant” We rented both Poor House (Abercelyn House) and Tithe Barn2 as a part of our 2 weeks holiday earlier this month.
