The Monsal Trail goes past the cottages on the hillside, ideal for walkers and cyclists. "A romantic riverside paradise in an unforgettable tranquil setting"

Our stay was full of drama (of the beautiful kind) and tranquility (of the inspiring kind). It really was a week in paradise. The house is lovely & cosy with its wood burning stove and romantic master bedroom overlooking the river. We are not serious walkers but we found ourselves walking every day because it was irresistible. The Monsal Trail is opposite the house across a little footbridge over the river. And all around the house we discovered other more secret- seeming walks that we liked even more. At first we stuck to the level walks along the river but by the end of the week we were heading for the hills in every direction as we'd unintentionally got a lot fitter! The wildlife is amazing, especially the birds along the river. We walked to Monsal Head (good lunch), Litton (good lunch), & up Cressbrook Dale to the Three Stags at the weekend (fabulous wild game lunch on gorgeous pottery made by the owners). The house is in a friendly little hamlet & there are pubs a few miles along the river in either direction. We walked a few miles across country to what I think is the nearest village, Tideswell, for breakfast one day & it's a lovely walk too. In the evenings we tended to stay in with the wood burning stove & a bottle of wine & cook ourselves something special (yes we do love food!) The riverside garden was a time warp zone with a sort of swinging sofa & trout leaping in the river & water birds swimming about & life flowed sweetly by so swiftly ...
