The Peak District countryside varies from glacially formed Edges such as Curbar Edge and Froggatt Edge, to long stretches of high moorland and fields and valleys with gritstone walls.

The River Derwent flows through Calver after passing over the world heritage site of Calver Weir. The Wye winds through nearby Bakewell (8 minutes drive from the cottage) and is home to an annual raft race and duck race as well as large trout.

Chatsworth House, voted the UK's favourite, is only one of nearby outstanding stately homes. Calver is also ideally located for Visiting Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall. Customs and traditions in the Peak District villages include annual well dressing ceremonies where wells are decorated with floral pictures, and village fetes and festivals.

Old Stones cottage is ideally situated for walking, cycling, climbing and exploring the beautiful Peak District National Park and it's attractions. Chatsworth House is only a short 8 minute drive away. Other attractions include the picturesque market town of Bakewell with its antique shops, boutiques and cafes. "lovely cottage in a great location"

A beautiful cottage, with everything you could possibly need. A real home from home for ourhoneymoon. The welcome tray was lovely, homemade lemon cake, tea and coffee and even some fresh milk in the fridge! We took advantage of the stunning surroundings using the leaflets provided to walk straight out of the cottage and across the peaks! Would also recommend the Dewentwater Arms for delicious food within walking distance! I'm sure we'll be back again soon!

"Excellent in every way"

This is a lovely cottage with a friendly, helpful owner and we would highly recommend a stay there (although preferably not when we want it hee hee!). It's in a superb central location within easy reach of all the best parts of the area- Chatsworth, Kinder Scout, Blue John Cavern, Bakewell, great pubs and lots more. The cottage is warm, cosy and well equipped. Everything was of a very high standard with some great features such as a lovely garden and an Aga.

"The beauty of the past blended magically with the modern comforts of home"

Our stay at Old Stones was a wonderful & truly memorable experience! Nestled in a delightful old village full of character, we experienced the feeling of staying in a 16th century dwelling but with all the convenient amenities of the 21st century. Our welcome was as warm as the aga, with a delicious tray of goodies and helpful advice. The cottage garden, both front & back, was the epitome of a perfect English garden. It was ideal accommodation in every respect, and we couldn't have asked for more!

"Fantastic stay - again!"

This was our second visit to this cottage and almost certainly won't be our last! The cottage is beautifully kept and simply a lovely place to stay - cooking on an Aga is fun! The welcome is superb - especially the cake! The garden is wonderful to enjoy, especially for children to explore and play in. It is also so conveniently located for lots of things to do in the Peak District, including plenty of local walks as well as places to visit. Couldn't speak more highly of it.

"Wonderful Place to Relax and Enjoy"

Old Stones is a beautiful place, peaceful, cosy, very clean and well equiped. Lovely Cottage gardens with great views. On arrival a thoughtful welcome tray, just what you need to start your break. The owner is helpful and cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable.
Situated in a great location in a nice village with two local pubs, cafe and shop all few minutes walk. Lots of great walking from the doorstep.
Just a few miles from Bakewell, Chatsworth and Baslow. Little further Monsal Trail and Buxton.
This is a gem of a place and cant wait to go back.

"Wonderful home away from home"

This was such a restful place to stay. Everything we needed was there (and more besides) and it far exceeded our expectations in terms of both space and comfort. We really hope that we can return in the future and will be recommending the cottage to our family and friends.
