The Peak District National Park region

The Peak District is a very popular destination for holidaymakers. There is so much to do for everyone. A wide range of activities are on offer including biking on one of the popular trails; beautiful country walks; fishing on either Carsington Reservoir or Ladybower; Golfing; Boating on the River Derwent in Matlock Bath; Horseriding; Swimming; Rockclimbing; even Pot Holing.

If none of the above appeals to you then what about a shopping experience at the famous Meadow Hall complex or The Westfield Centre in Derby?

At various times of the year there are special events all over the County.

At the end of every July there are the famous Welldressings, Hen Racing and a Carnival held in Bonsall Village itself. The Church Welldressing is opposite the cottage.

If you just want to get away from it all then you might like a picnic in the scenic villages of Ilam or Dovedale or just a nice pub lunch or evening meal in one of the many local hostelries - The Kings Head, a two minute walk from the cottage or The Barley Mow, a ten minute walk away, or maybe afternoon tea at the local Fountain Tearooms, less than a five minute walk away.

Of course there is the beautiful Chatsworth House and Gardens just a twenty minute drive away - see the herds of Fallow and Red Deer in Chatsworth Park or visit the Chatsworth Farm Shop - mmmm tasty!!!! You might like to take the children to the Chatsworth Farmyard to see cows being milked and let them be hands on with the animals. Sample a Bakewell Pudding with cream or just on its own from The Bakewell Pudding Shop in Bakewell. The first Bakewell Pudding was made quite by accident in The Rutland Arms in Bakewell. Please never refer to it as a Bakewell Tart!!!

The list is endless.

Bakewell

The Peak District area is scenic and has so many famous attractions contained within. Dramatic scenery i.e. Matlock Bath often called 'The Switzerland of England.' See the famous Venetion lights in September/October each year and witness fireworks on some Saturday evenings and beautiful dressed boats gracefully journeying down the River Derwent.

Travel on a cable car in Matlock Bath to the famous Heights of Abraham or visit The Tramway Museum in Crich and go back in time. See the shopping on offer in Sir Richard Arkwrights Mill, once a hive of industry.

Take the children to Gulliver's Kingdom in Matlock Bath or visit nearby Haddon Hall or Harwick Hall.

Derbyshire has a wealth of history and did you know that Bonsall was mentioned in the Doomsday Book?
