Enquire nowThe Heart of England / Peak District / Peak District/Derbyshire region
The Peak District was the first area to be deemed a National Park.
The landscape ranges from moorland and hills to lush meadows & leafy forests.
There is plenty to see and do from Caverns & Caves, Historic Houses to walking, cycling & climbing.
You can fill you time in a diversity of ways from the peace quiet of a country walk to the bustling cities of Derby & Sheffield for shopping, cafes & bars and a full range of night-life.
There are many festivals and the annual wells dressings, which runs from May to September in various villages and towns, are unique to Derbyshire and can be traced back to the 1300's and the black death!
The Bakewell / Monyash area
Monyash is a small village of about 140 houses, at the head of Lathkill Dale, a dry river bed which is now a National Nature Reserve.
Monyash can be translated as: “many ash trees.” and was recorded as “Maneis” in the Doomsday Book in 1086.
Monyash was founded on the high and dry White Peak limestone plateau because of the presence of its “meres” or ponds which owe their existence to a bed of impervious clay which held the precious water, due to it's height at 300 metres above sea level. The only remaining mere is Fere Mere, on the road towards Buxton.
Bakewell which is 4 miles (6Km) east of Monyash is a thriving market town, hosting a traditional street and cattle market every Monday.
Home to the famous Bakewell Pudding, which can be sampled and purchased at many of the independent shops.
There is a supermarket along with many cafes' pubs and restaurants

We have just enjoyed a three night break at Endmoor Farm, staying with three other couples in the farmhouse. The whole building has been built and finished to an exceptional standard and is equipped with pretty much everything you would need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. All of the room are spacious and cope easily with full occupancy. Another major benefit is the fact that every room has its own bathroom. The two nearest pubs are friendly, warm and comfortable serving good local beers and excellent food. Overall we have had a great weekend that centred around the house but also taking in the great local pubs and excellent walking - we WILL be going back. Response: Thank you for taking the time to post your review. So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you another time! |
