Sheldon is a quiet linear village, with its cottages and farms set alongside a single road. The view of the village from Woodlane Cottage is wholly delightful and surprisingly soft for a former lead mining village. Ancient sycamore trees, village greens and the old red telephone box all add further to the character (and it is mercifully free from both yellow and white lines). The property enjoys a small cottage garden, with BBQ and seating area(in summer) at the rear of the cottage, along with dog friendly fencing and gate. There is parking for one car within the cottage grounds and there is an additonal parking area in front of cottage.
The Heart of England/Peak District
The Peak District is an upland area in central and northern England, It offers all year round activities and events for people of every age. For lovers of the outdoors, there are around 1,600 miles of footpaths across stunning scenery. Discover limestone dales full of rare wild flowers, stroll along trout filled rivers or watch skylarks soaring above heather clad moors. Walking, bird watching, caving, rock climbing, potholing, fishing, sailing, gliding and cycling are just some of the activities available.
The local towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Bath, each famous in its own right, offer culture, shopping, restaurants and traditional markets and if you still have energy, there is always the famous theme park of Alton Towers.
The beautiful village of Sheldon lies near the heart of the Peak District, three miles from the bustling market town of Bakewell, five miles from Buxton, famous for its spa and waters, and less than 15 miles from Sheffield.
Woodlane Cottage looks onto the village greens. The Cock and Pullet is well known for the quality of its beer and catering and Ashford in the Water village shops provide essential provisions, and post office facilities.
There are excellent walks from the door, especially down Deep Dale to reach the River Wye or down Lathkill Dale and Cressbrook Dales down to Monsal Dale and Monsal Head. Cressbrook Dale and Tansley Dale are famous for their wild flowers, as are several other local dales.
In the summer, Ashford in the Water and many other local villages create unique well dressings from flower petals. And we have our very own Sheldon Day, including a Poultry show and Dog show.
At Christmas time,Sheldon host its own Magical, walking Nativity play through the village, a range of other Christmas activities are also available locally, such as carols in the caves at Castleton, music by local brass bands, events at nearby Chatsworth House, Xmas markets and whole villages dressed with Christmas lights..

"Two words - just perfect!"
Having stayed in a lot of cottages in the Peak District over the years both myself and my husband agree this is by far the best. Booking with the owner, Lindsey, was quick and easy. The village is so peaceful, the cottage is beautiful, and immaculately clean, tidy and most of all welcoming, it felt just like home (and we do own a cottage!). Lindsey had provided a very tasty home-made sponge cake, eggs, milk, teabags etc for our arrival. (The day of our stay, the village had a problem with the water and although it was all resolved+didn't cause us any problems, Lindsey advised us of the issue and had even left 2 bottles of water just in case). They have thought of everything! We had some great (very long!) walks straight from the cottage, with our 2 year old Labrador, in gorgeous weather with snow showers on our last evening. It was just a shame that we weren't snowed in, as none of us wanted to leave! The pub in the village looks lovely and we read some great reviews, however we were that tired from our walks and the cottage was so toasty we stayed in every night! We will definitely return, hopefully with friends in tow as I know they will love it too, most certainly recommend to our friends and family :) Happy guests, happy dog - a little piece of Derbyshire heaven :) x

Provided all that we could have wished for. Suited our type of holiday very well. Cottage faultless, nice local pub, good nearby walks. Quiet village. Would echo all other previous positive reviews.
Layout of cottage upstairs works well as the bathrooms work -more or less- as 2 en suites. Lovely work done on renovation.

"If only all holiday rentals were this good..."
Can only agree with previous reviews. Having stayed in many varying holiday rentals over the years, this has to be one of the finest we have had the good fortune to stay at. A very tastefully and thoughfully equipped residence, with the welcome pack and cake immediately making us feel at home upon arrival. Location is excellent for walking and trips by car to surrounding area. Also having such a fine pub for food and drink opposite, is a real bonus.
My only regret was discovering the excellent nearby Thornbridge Brewery, too late in our stay to arrange a Brewery tour (they're only held on Wednesdays apparently...)

"A sumptuous idyll in the peaceful, unspoilt Peak District village of Sheldon."
A real gem Woodlane Cottage exceeded all my expectations and I will most certainly return.
Light and airy the cottage exudes an immediate warmth and vibrancy. All creature comforts are catered for to very high standards. The generous and extensive 'Welcome Pack' was the icing on the cake after a long and tiring journey. After an initial walk around the beautiful quintessentially English village I felt reenergised – it certainly has a wow factor.
I look forward to my return to Woodlane Cottage. I can't think of a better, more comfortable, place to stay to explore the delights of the Peak District.

"Superb 'why look any further'"
Wood Lane cottage is by far the best we have ever stayed in. Greeted by a scrumptious home made victoria sponge cake sitting on the kitchen table we just knew we wouldn't want to leave and we didn't. The cottage was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and furnished throughout. Every possible utensil and facility you could wish for had been thoughtfully provided. The cosy log fire and the huge comfy bed (cotton linen) just created the perfect home away from home. The location of the cottage was just as perfect with some of the best walks in the Peak District from the doorstep followed by good food and beer in the local country pub with the added bonus of being within walking distance. Bakewell was a 5 minuet drive away and well worth a visit for it's shops and cafes. Chatsworth House and Park are lovely could go on and on. We literally couldn't fault this cottage and 100% recommend it. We will be back x
