Further details outdoors:
Sheldon is a quiet linear village, with its cottages and farms set alongside a single road. The view of the village from Woodlane Cottage is wholly delightful and surprisingly soft for a former lead mining village. Ancient sycamore trees, village greens and the old red telephone box all add further to the character (and it is mercifully free from both yellow and white lines). The property enjoys a small cottage garden, with BBQ and seating area(in summer) at the rear of the cottage, along with dog friendly fencing and gate. There is parking for one car within the cottage grounds and there is an additonal parking area in front of cottage.
Conditions
For the comfort of all our guests, we operate a strict NO SMOKING policy. Please be aware that, as in many other old properties, Woodlane Cottage has relatively steep stairs and some low beams. We regret that we cannot accommodate children under the age of 8 years. Dogs are by proir arrrangement and must be kept downstairs and off the furniture at all times.

Having stayed in a lot of cottages in the Peak District over the years both myself and my husband agree this is by far the best. Booking with the owner, Lindsey, was quick and easy. The village is so peaceful, the cottage is beautiful, and immaculately clean, tidy and most of all welcoming, it felt just like home (and we do own a cottage!). Lindsey had provided a very tasty home-made sponge cake, eggs, milk, teabags etc for our arrival. (The day of our stay, the village had a problem with the water and although it was all resolved+didn't cause us any problems, Lindsey advised us of the issue and had even left 2 bottles of water just in case). They have thought of everything! We had some great (very long!) walks straight from the cottage, with our 2 year old Labrador, in gorgeous weather with snow showers on our last evening. It was just a shame that we weren't snowed in, as none of us wanted to leave! The pub in the village looks lovely and we read some great reviews, however we were that tired from our walks and the cottage was so toasty we stayed in every night! We will definitely return, hopefully with friends in tow as I know they will love it too, most certainly recommend to our friends and family :) Happy guests, happy dog - a little piece of Derbyshire heaven :) x |
