Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
Badger Cottage is tucked away at the end of a private lane. With just a handful of neighbours, then nothing but nature as far as the eye can see. With room enough for just a few people, the cottage is the ideal place for a couple to relax and hang out, or to go out and spend the day exploring the woods, rivers and hills.
When you first see the front of the cottages you might feel as if you've stepped back in time, Badger Cottage is an 18th Century former mill workers cottage, next to an ancient wood, just outside of the village of Cressbrook. It is set in two rows of cottages (known as Ravensdale Cottages - due to ravens nesting in cliffs just above cottages.
Don't worry. The minute you pop your head around the door you will be reassured: the cottage is now very much 21st century luxury, exuding comfort, warmth, welcome & wi-fi.
Our aim is to make Badger Cottage a perfect relaxing romantic cottage for two, where you feel special yet completely at home: the sort of holiday accommodation we would like to stay in ourselves.

The Heart of England/Peak District
Badger Cottage is in a secluded setting, set amongst the trees beneath Raven's Crag, and deep in the heart of Cressbrook Dale are two tiny rows of former lead miners cottages which are so chocolate box pretty and original in their detail and character that they would be the perfect setting for period film or television drama productions. “Ravensdale Cottages are surrounded by beautiful countryside with several footpaths. Cressbrook Dale is famed for its wild flowers, flora and fauna, and a visit in early May is especially recommended to see the wonderful display of orchids.
See further details of the cottage and surrounding area in the Badger Cottage website below:
Badger Cottage is in Cressbrook Dale which is characterised by spectacular limestone scenery including Ravensdale Crags (SK173737) and the striking and historically interesting Peter's Stone (SK173753). Like Lathkill Dale, the valley bottom and sides support a mix of woodland, scrub and open grassland as well as a seasonal stream that flows in the wetter months. In spring, the woodland comes alive with flowers including extensive areas of Lily of the Valley. The superb limestone grasslands which make up the majority of the reserve support interesting and unusual species such as bloody cranesbill, globe flower and a variety of orchids. Of particular interest is 'Botanical Acre' (SK172741), one of the richest areas of wildflowers in Derbyshire. Flowers associated with old lead workings high on the valley sides include spring sandwort and mossy saxifrage.
The local village of Litton lies between Cressbrook and Tideswell and features stocks on the village green. The ancient field systems which surround Litton are notable; most of the fields are long and narrow and date from the enclosures act of 1760 where strips of larger fields were allocated to families to farm. See the dry stone walls which enclose them and the stocks on the village green.
There is a super award winning village shop in Litton which is owned and run by the villagers.
Another nearby village is Tideswell, whose cathedral is called the "Cathedral of the Peak".
Tideswell is an ancient bustling village right in the heart of the peaks which dates back earlier than Roman times. It has a magnificent church, dedicated to St John the Baptist, often referred to as the Cathedral of the Peak, which was built in the 14th century and stands as a land mark for miles around. It has a good range of shops, pubs and tearooms and is famous for its well dressings.
Enjoy a cup of tea and a home made cake in one of the lovely tearooms then stroll along to Tideswell Dale which leads down to Litton Mill and Cressbrook. It's a Derbyshire Wildlife Nature Reserve, noted for some beautiful rare flowers and Toadstones, evidence of past volcanic activity are found here. Tideswell makes an ideal base for walking and climbing and is an ideal base for exploring the peak district's attractions.
In Tideswell there are an excellent range of shops which specialise in fresh local produce.
The Co-Op, opens 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm and stocks all the basic food items you'll need during your stay.
There's a bank, a real butchers, a greengrocers, a bakery, a Deli, a farm shop and café who sell a great range of cheeses, dairy and local produce , a Florist, a Chemist, and Tideswell Stores- - newsagent cum general store/post office opposite the Church, open every day – sells sticks and logs for the logburner.
There are also cafés, an art and gift shop and a Piano showroom…
Local shopping is excellent in Tideswell and the local market towns of Chesterfield, Bakewell and Buxton. About 45 minutes drive takes you to Sheffield (Meadow hall), Manchester or Derby where all the facilities of major cities are available.

This reviewer did not stay at our cottage!
We (I) made an error by accepting a double booking. As soon as I realised the error, I arranged to put the guests up at a nearby (very nice) B&B, sorted their groceries out, showed them round and paid for their stay. As an extra gesture I also offered to pay for food for their 3 night stay. Unfortunately, the reviewer abused this offer by overclaiming and including for friends meals etc. Embarrassed at being queried, the reviewer has subsequently posted a negative review. Notwithstanding this, I have since taken action to ensure double bookings do not happen again - by only accepting bookings via this site. Trust this clears this up:)

"An incredible, relaxing and beautiful weekend"
This cottage, set in the peak district, I have to say is the perfect getaway for a weekend, my partner and I would definitely return to this wonderfully set in a beautiful location, and is everything you would want in a small cottage getaway. The owner is fabulous and incredibly helpful, with all matters relating to your stay and enhanced the entire experience. Thank you so very much.
