Further details outdoors:
The barn was built in 1765 with sandstone from the local quarry across the lane, the oak beams and trusses hewn from the Tomlinson's Woods across the fields. An old wives' tale says that trees from the same wood were used to build some of Nelson's ships, and that the stone is used in some of the major buildings in London. Therefore, due to it's rarity, it is quarried VERY occasionally, maybe 1 afternoon per month.
Outside, the meadow, Harthill Moor, patios, decklng and ample private car parking surround the property.
A secret oasis from the cares of the world with fantastic , panoramic views.
A hidden jewel...
And ONLY 1 of them... complete seclusion.

We went to The Secret for a Mini-moon just after our wedding. After spending months planning and organising we were ready to hide away from the world and enjoy each others company. That is exactly waht we did. Christine gave us a very warm welcome despite the cold weather. We even had a congratulations card and flowers to welcome us to the flat. Thank you Christine. We only used the upper part of the property which was very well furbished. The kitchen is very well stocked and when we were leaving Chrisitine was even talking about replacing all the pots and pans. The sofa and bed were so comfortable it probably kept us in that bit more. There is a large flat screen tv with surround sound and DVD which was great to curl up infront of in the evenings. The only thing we were missing was teatowels but I'm sure if we'd bumped into Christine again she would have helped us. Nothing is too much trouble for the host and she is only next door if you need anything. Christine has provided a folder in the property with all the information for the flat as well as local information. We didnt' venture out much but Bakewell is a quaint town only 5-10mins drive away. And Hartwell house is only 20mins. We went there for fireworks night and could see even then that the house has amazing grounds so probably worth a visit in warmer times. The Entrance is well signed at the end of the road despite the fact you can't see the property itself. We found it in the dark with thick fog. The road in is a little bumpy but unfortunately it's not Christine's land to repair. Alltogether a lovely few days away and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere quiet to hide away. |
