About the home

Your holiday starts here at LA MAISON DES FLEURS! - KEITH, our son JOSH and myself JILL would like to welcome you to our home at LA MAISON DES FLEURS and to our Gite LA JONQUILLE. The 2 bed cottage is ideal for a family of 4, nicely furnished and well equipped, to ensure your stay will be comfortable and enjoyable, there is also plenty of parking available. I

Why not take this opportunity to have a quiet relaxing get away from it all holiday in a beautiful setting, yet near to major tourist attractions and historic sites, the perfect setting for your French holiday. There is nothing nicer then sitting in the garden with a glass of wine in one hand, book in the other, occasionally looking up to admire the stunning and beautiful array of hanging baskets, window boxes etc and listening to the birds singing their song!

LA JONQUILLE - a converted self-contained cottage, sleeps up to 4 + cot, 2 bedrooms (4ft6 bed in one and twin beds in the other), shower and toilet, kitchen/dining area, and lounge with a woodburning stove, TV with English Satellite/Radio. Patio with flowers, garden furniture and BBQ, plenty of parking. Owners live on site.

The Brittany / Ille-et-Vilaine region

This area of Southern Brittany is set in a 'micro climate' which means it is a lot warmer then a lot of the neighbouring areas. There are numerous historic Villages and Towns of character.

* GULF OF MORBIHAN - beautiful, with its popular beaches are approx. 35 minutes drive away, here you will find numerous things to do, spend a day on one of the numerous islands reached by boat.

* VANNES - a visit is a must, about 1 hour away, take a walk along the cobbled streets with interesting boutiques abound, stumble upon a restaurant or creperie at lunch time, in the afternoon visit the BUTTERFLY CENTRE and the fascinating AQUARIUM.

* JOSSELIN - A visit to this 'Petites Cites Caractere' is a must, the 14th century Chateau overlooks and dominates the canal, there are guided tours of the chateau which also houses a Musee des Poupees (doll museum). The old suburb of Josselin dating from the 16th century, contains many wooden framed and stone built houses of character.

* ROCHEFORTE EN TERRE is a 'Petites Cites Caractere' famous for its 16th and 17th century buildings, church and cobbled streets, about 20km from my Gites. There are numerous artisans, small shops and restaurants, and is a strong competitor for the Village in Bloom competition being a past winner in 2004! Situated 2km away is the Park Prehistorique de Bretagne, containing life size models of dinosaurs in a wooded parkland with 5 spectacular lakes - the kids will have a whale of a time!

* MALESTROIT is a 'Petite Cite of Caractere' with an abundance of restaurants and bars on the square and tucked away in the quaint side streets. The river Oust flows interestingly through the town, do spend some time watching the boats making their way through the lock and get to talk to the owners! A visit to the Musee de la Resistance (History Museum) at St. Marcel, (nearby) which is unique to Bretagne is a must. During the war, the Resistance were prevalent in Brittany and known as Les Maquis who played a major role in the liberation of Brittany. A visit to this museum (1500 square metres) and its landscaped grounds will be one of many highlights of your holidays in this area. In July and August don't miss the start of the guided tour in a genuine US army half-track, and take part in this fascinating excursion through time.There are six halls showing and describing the life and the commitment of the Bretons during the second world war, The restaurant in St Marcel called Le Relais du Maquis carries their name and also serves some of the best food in the area!

The Bains-sur-Oust area

* LA GACILLY - 5-10 mins away, is a picturesque 'ville fleurie' with a stunning weir, an abundance of flowers decorate this village in summer, At the port, one can hire a small day boat and cruise along the river. Quaint cobbled streets house about 25 local artisans and artists from glass blowing to painting on leaves! The town also has a grand photo festival in the streets throughout the summer this year the colours are stunning! There are a selection of Creperies and Restaurants for the gastronomic, LA GACILLY is also home to Yves Rocher the perfume and make up people, take a tour! incidentally Yves Rocher himself is mayor of this town and has been for many years!

* “ISLE AUX PIES” - (Isle of Magpies) 10 mins away, with magnificent views including the rock faces rising from the river Oust, try your hand at rock climbing! try also the excellent restaurant by the river.

* REDON - Visit this inland port town (10-15 min) set on the confluence of the river Villaine and the Nante/Brest canal, there are numerous shops and supermarkets, Super-U, Intermarche, Leclerc for your major food shopping. There is a new LEISURE CENTRE with 3 indoor pools, and for summer an outside pool with gardens for soaking up the sun!

* ST JUST - is a small village (6 kms from my Gites), with 2 cafes, a boulangerie and the obligatory grand church! On the outskirts of the village is an interesting calvert (like a religious grotto). But, more interestingly, there is a large megalithic site (similar to Carnac or Stonehenge) with standing stones, dolmens and other very interesting formations over a large area heathland area, there is also a brand new maison des megaliths (museum).

* MARKETS - There are numerous markets to go and visit, the more local ones are REDON on Monday mornings, and slightly smaller Market at LA GACILLY Saturday mornings.

* FISHING abound, buy a permit at the local tabac for one day or a week!y ticket, plenty to catch!

Mr & Mrs H stayed in LA JONQUILLE in the summer - It is a beautiful, tranquil location overlooking meadows. We were in close proximity to many pretty towns and villages, our favourites being La Gacilly and Rochfort-en-Terre.

Gas & Electricity costs are included from beginning of June until the end of September. Between October and the end of May prices are an additional £ 50 per week to include wood. Please note that all bedding and linen are included in the rental price.

A refundable security/damage deposit of £100 per Gite for the whole hire period is required in case of damage/loss to the property or its contents. The sum reserved by this clause shall not limit the Clients liability to the Owner. The Owner will account to the Client for the security deposit and reimburse the balance due within 2 weeks. However, if any damage/loss is incurred during the hire period, the hirer will be invoiced accordingly.
