La Cantina is an elegantly appointed apartment, situated on the lower level of a 250 year old Italian village house, available on a self catering or bed and breakfast basis. The apartment comprises one double bedroom with en-suite facilities, dining room with kitchen corner, living room with open fireplace, private, secluded sun terrace and garden with barbecue for guests to enjoy during the long warm Italian evenings.

Castel Cellesi is a peaceful, rural village, little changed for hundreds of years. Those who enjoy nature and water sports will find Lake Bolsena only 15 minutes away by car . Here there are beaches, boat hire, fishing, cycling and excellent restaurants. Explore the lake towns of Montefiascone, Bolsena and Capodimonte. Visits to Rome and Orvieto offer opportunities to sample culture and shopping.
Local markets abound and the nearest town, Bagnoregio, is only 10 minutes away. The mediaeval centre of Bagnoregio is known as 'the dying city' owing to it's remarkable location perched on a rocky plug, high above the Calanchi valley. Basic shopping can be found in Castel Cellesi at Marcella's, who will even cook for you! (with notice!)
The coast of Lazio and Tuscany can be reached in 1 hour ,where there are several beautiful beaches all with facilities.Local thermal spa's are available at Viterbo (25 mins) or at Saturnia (1 hr)

The Lazio region

Lazio, home to one of the world's great capital cities, Rome, borders Umbria, Tuscany and Le Marche. Here one can visit beautiful beaches, or enjoy one of several sparkling, freshwater lakes - Bolsena, Vico or most famously Bracciano. During the winter months excellent skiing is available at Monte Terminillo near to Rieti.
Northern Lazio or the "Tuscia" is steeped in Etruscan and Roman history with many Mediaeval hill top towns including the main provincial town of Viterbo. The historic centres of Orvieto, Bagnoregio, Montefiascone and Tarquinia are all close by for days out. The region has good local wines - the most famous being Est Est Est! Close by, the wines from Orvieto are considered to be among the best in Italy. Most towns and villages produce their own local wine along with tasty dishes made from seasonal ingredients - most also celebrate monthly festas during the spring and summer months, where wines and produce can be sampled.

The climate in the area is warm from October to April ,with rain more likely during March and April.The summer months are hot and sunny but with cooling breezes around the lakes. Snow and frost are more likely at higher altitudes( above 450m) during January to March.

Bagnoregio area

The area around Castel Cellesi is full of places to visit and easy to drive around with very little traffic compared to the UK!!
Bagnoregio with it's local shops and Monday market is 10 minutes away and has all of the faciliies that one would expect of an Italian market town. Only 20 minutes away is Viterbo with extensive shopping facilities, thermal spa and many excellent restaurants.
The village has a pizzeria, open Friday - Sunday where takeaway pizza is also available. Locally, within a 10 minute drive there are several good restaurants. Beautiful, unspoilt Lake Bolsena is 15 minutes away and Orvieto 25 minutes with regular trains to Rome and Florence.
Festivals are held in the area on a weekly basis from April through to October and Castel Cellesi has it's own 3 day Festa during August, normally held in the second week - very popular with both locals and tourists - offering music, food and fireworks.

FESTIVALS HELD LOCALLY
There are many local festivals which are great fun and very interesting to attend. Listed below are some of the most popular ones.
FESTA DI PRIMAVERA - ROME
During March and April Rome hosts free guided tours of churches monuments and other places of interest.Concerts are also held at the Spanish Steps.Please contact the tourist board on 0039 06 488991.
NATALE DI ROMA
The Birth of Rome celebration is held on 21st April each year.Events include Roman feasts, dancing, gladiator battles ,as well as parades around the Forum and Coliseum .
FESTA DI SANTA CRISTINA - BOLSENA
This festival is held in July and is a reconstruction of the martyrdom of one of the local saints - Santa Cristina - who converted to Christianity in the 14th centuary. Lots of food ,concerts and fireworks.
FESTA DELLE ORTENSIE (HYDRANGEA) - BOLSENA
Normally held during the last week of June - spectacular displays of this beautiful plant,along with collections, botanical talks and tours of local gardens and, of course, food tastings.
FESTA DEL VINO -MONTEFIASCONE
Normally held for 2 weeks from the end of July through to the middle of August. Wine tastings held in local cantinas in the historical centre of this beautiful lake-side town.
ORVIETO JAZZ FESTIVAL-ORVIETO
Music and fun !! Top jazz artists attend this yearly festival normally held at the end of December to 1st January.

FESTA DELLA SANTA ROSA - VITERBO
Held annually on 3rd September this festa celebrates the town's patron saint.There is a candlelit, five stage procession with 100 senior members of the town carrying a 28 metre statue of Santa Rosa through the town.This festival is very popular and we recommend you arrive early to find parking and a place to watch the start of the procession.Please contact the tourist board on 0039 0761 304795.
