Home description
The flat is located on the top floor of large block of about 30 flats. The block is located up on the Graukogel mountain just off the road that links Gruner Baum and the Hohe Taurn Park to Bad Gastein.
The flat looks up onto the Graukogel mountain and down the valley to Bad Hofgastein. In addition to the Graukogel runs (site of 1957 World Cup) there are 4 main skiing areas in the Gasteinertal valley all within 15 minutes drive and all serviced by an efficient bus service.
It is easily possible to get to the various ski area's by the bus service as there is a bus stop 1 minute walk from the flat however I find it helps to have a car so I would recommend hiring a car.
In summer there is an 18 hole golf course in the valley.

The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region
The Austrian Alps are famous for Skiing in the winter months and beautiful green 'Sound of Music' scenary in the summer months. Salzburgerland is situated on the North Eastern edge of the European alps and the main town is Salzburg, Mozarts birthplace.
Bad Gastein area
Bad Gastein is one of three towns in the Gasteinertal Valley and at 1000m altitude it is located at the southern end of the valley. The main features of the town are the historic buildings and the waterfall that flows right through the middle of the town.
There are two separate ski areas in the town itself with the Stubnerkogel mountain linked to the Schlossalm ski area further north. Sportgastein at 1400mtrs is a 10 minute drive further south into the Alps and the Dorfgastein/Grossarl ski area about a 15 minute drive to the northern end of the valley.
Goto www.skiamade.com to view the website for the wider area. The area narrowly lost out to a Russian resort (Sochi) in the vote to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The regions ski areas are typically Austrian with tree lined runs and traditional 'Alms' serving food and drinks throughout the day. Skiing in Bad Gastein is a great Austrian Alps experience with great snow coverage, some demanding runs and a great vibe on the slopes with skiiers and boarders partaking in the local cuisine, drinks and music.
The Gastein valley is famous for its spa's. The Bad Gastein Felsentherme is located in the middle of the town and there is a further spa in Bad Hofgastein. There is not a lot that can beat relaxing in a outdoor jacuzzi looking up at snow capped mountains after a hard days skiing which is exactly what the Felsentherme provides.
There are quite a few restaurants & bars in Bad Gastein. The Silver Bullet, Gatz and Haegeblooms bars provide live music once the sun goes down and its possible to party to the very early hours in Bad Gastein (with a Scandanavian vibe).
There are a few fully stocked supermarkets in the town, with the Spar in the centre being the best and well located for the flat (10min walk, 2 minute drive).
In Summer the valley is perfect for golf, mountain biking, hiking, clay court tennis, swimming, river rafting.
How to get there
- Flights: It is a 1 hour drive from Salzburg Airport, 2.5 hours from Munich. There are UK flights from Stanstead, Gatwick, Bournemouth & Manchester. Ryanair from London Stanstead operate a great service for long weekend trips as they have an outbound flight at apprx 6pm and an inbound flight at 9pm. And despite their sometimes negative image I have never been delayed more then 20 mins on this flight. - Driving: All major hire cars company's are located at Salzburg airport. Salzburg airport is super convenient as it is fairly small and generally takes no more then 20 minutes from touchdown to being on the road in a hire car. I usually use Budget and can recommend them. - Trains: The train station in Bad Gastein is right in the middle of the town. There is a direct train from Salzburg to Bad Gastein.
