The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region

Austria is a country famous for its mountains, which stretch right across this central European country. With its warm spring weather, hot summers, golden autumn days and magical winter wonderland, Austria is an all year round destination and you will be given a friendly welcome by the locals. The province of Salzburgerland is one of the best destinations in Austria with it's lush green pastures rising to the high snow capped peaks perfect for summer and winter holidays.

Whilst in Salzburgerland, be sure to visit one of the best European cities, Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart. Take a direct train to Salzburg from Bad Gastein and then onto the famous "Sound of Music" tour.

Bad Gastein area

Nestled near the head of the valley with a spectacular waterfall running through the centre, Bad Gastein is ideal for activities such as skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing in the winter, or mountain biking, walking and climbing in the summer.

The town is also one of the principle spa resorts in the Alps, with over 20,000 litres of geothermal water rising in hot springs each day. The Gastein valley boasts 3 public spas and several hundred other thermal treatments throughout the valley. Bad Gastein is so famous for it's thermal waters that the treatments attract people from around the world to improve fitness - or just to feel better. Try it for yourselves!

The ski resort at Bad Gastein is one of the largest in Austria. 200km of perfectly prepared pistes take you up to the highest peaks. If you've only ever skied in France, then Austria will be a treat - imagine pistes going down through trees in a picture postcard setting. When you're ready for a rest, stop at one of the many huts next to the piste for a hearty Austria snack and a drink. Whether beginner or off piste expert, skiing in Bad Gastein is truly a superb experience.

In the winter, the town plays host to the Snowboard World Cup in Janaury and the famous Red Bull Playstreets contest. You won't see the top skiers skiing down through the town anywhere else in the world! If you prefer the warm summer sun then come to one of the many summer festivals from June to September.

Guestbook for Apartment Graukogel

We have spent a wonderful weekend in Bad Gastein! We had lots of snow, so we fully enjoyed skiing and snowboarding. The area is really beautiful and the ski-stations are very well equipped. So is the apartment: cosy and very spacious, even for seven people living in it. Everything we needed was there (even music and games!) and we spent great evenings by the fireplace. We are looking forward to come back! Piet Van Geet & Katrijn Cools, Belgium (Dec 08)

We loved the apartment and the valley was great for us skiing and for our parents too. We had a great holiday with home from home accommodation, lovely setting. Mum would love to visit in the summer, when it is green and the flowers are out. Jo and Chris Kew, Hertfordshire, UK (Jan 08)

The apartment was great. Everything we could need for a week and in easy to find places. Thanks for providing such a great place to stay! Debbie and Ian, Norwich, UK. (July 07)

Thank you very much for the use of your apartment. It was a fabulous base, so spacious and well tucked away. The apartment was great and had everything we needed. There scenery everywhere is breathtaking and we look forward to visiting again sometime. Clive, Barbara and Chris, Surrey, UK. (June 07)
