Home description

Lifeboat Cottage is a traditional semi-detached 18 th century Norfolk cottage, renovated in 2007 to retain it's cobbled charm with modern conveniences. It is 15 metres from a long sandy beach which has easy sloping access. It has an open Inglewood fireplace, modern kitchen and shower rooms with several rooms having sea views. There is a south facing patio and partly walled garden. It provides a traditional 'buckets and spades' summer holiday as well as a cosy winter retreat. There is a pub and shops within ten minutes walk and supermarkets, farmers markets and giant car boot sale at Stalham 10 minutes away. The East Anglia / Norfolk region

Norfolk is a large and varied county offering a wide range of holiday experiences -traditional bucket and spades on wide sandy beaches - the Norfolk Broads for cruising and sailing, - North Norfolk for it's natural beauty, walks and bird-spotting - Yaremouth for a lively resort - and Norwich for cultural activites and good shopping. The unspoilt small market towns and villages all offer a range of pubs, restaurants and markets. There are National Trust properties to visit, 'Slow Food' towns Aylsham and Diss, theatres in Norwich and Sheringham, Arts Festivals, Horse-racing, (Fakenham, Yaremouth) Mortor Racing (Snetterton) Tennis, Bowls, Wind-surfing. The natural charm of the cobbled homes and rolling countryside remains it's greatest asset.


Bacton area

Bacton is located on a long sandy beach. Wind-surfing and Jet-skiing are available locally, as is sailing on the Norfolk Broads and in Blakeney and Wells (30 mins away). There is an indoor swimming pool a village 10 mins away, golf at Mundesley (15 mins) and Cromer (20 mins). There is bowls at Cromer and Yaremouth, tennis courts at North Walsham - playgrounds/pleasure gardens/parks at Cromer, North Walsham and Stalham. There is a large car boot sale twice/week locally, and in the summer many local fetes, flower festivals, open studios, outdoor concerts and Cromer Carnival in August.. East Ruston Garden is open in the summer (10 mins).


How to get there

Lifeboat Cottage 2 is located in Bacton. This is situated south of Cromer , and 20 km from Norwich and 7 kms from the Norfolk Broads. It can be reached by train to North Walsham British Rail Stationand then a 20 minute taxi ride (Bluebird Taxis). Detailed coastal map and instructions for driving are availible from the owners. It is highly recommended that one has a car for this property.
From London one takes A11> turning off before Norwich to take the A47 at Acle take A1064 to join up the A149 linking to the B1159 costal road via Happisburgh to Walcott/Bacton.
There is a sporadic bus service called the Norfolk Hopper which runs a seasonal timetable. (Details of 2007 are not availible).

The cottage is newly refurbished. It has a light entrance hall with WC and Shower room off with a glass door out to the garden. It has a sitting /diningroom with partly cobbled walls and an Inglenook brick fireplace.
There are two easy chairs, and a sofa (which can sleep two). The kitchen has views out to the sea and has a new electric oven, fridge, old pine doors and sink and work surface and is well equipped with china and cooking utensils. The three bedrooms, one double (twins) with views of garden, two single bedrooms with sea views are simply and comfortably furnished. There is a second shower room upstairs. There is an integral parking slot for one medium sized car.

Further details outdoors:
The garden is about 60 foot long and faces south. It is partly laid to lawn with a patio adjoining the cottage.
There is a shed in which is stored a BBQ and sun chairs. There is Bench/Table for al fresco dining.
It is planted with lavender, roses and marigolds.

This cottage offers a charming family holiday close to the beach. We are unable to provide facilities for pet-owners or smokers and although someone with limited mobility could sleep in the downstairs sitting room and use the downstairs shower and WC it is not suitable for people in wheelchairs. There is a parking space intergral to the front of the cottage which will take small/medium, size family cars but not wider vehicles.


Conditions

We would ask 25 % of the rental fee 6 weeks before the departure date to secure the booking.
We are offering weekends and part weeks in all but the peak season months of mid June to mid September.

We would like to be paid in sterling cheques at the beginning of the holiday with 50% as deposit for the reservation.
The owners take their holidays in the next door cottge which sleeps 6/9 people and it would be possible to rent both out together in 2008 to clients known to have used LB2 successfully.


Guestbook

This cottage has been let out to family and friends over the last decade with many people returning again and again. No guest books have been kept, but this will be available for this season.
