Home description
Its hard to describe the attractions of Cranks Castle, but last weekend we arrived on Friday morning with a list of things to do and charged around all day at our normal 'city' pace. Waking up on Saturday after a good nights sleep and hearing the sea breaking on the shore the cares of everyday life started slipping away - we spent the rest of the weekend relaxing, sleeping, eating, drinking, and watching the sea with a log fire roaring. We had the occasional walk along the beach to buy the Sunday papers and to take the sea air. Obviously there are many local attractions well worth visiting and the countryside is beautiful, but the charm of the house is just looking at the beach and the sea. The comfort of central heating means that even bad weather is beautiful and returning home from a couple of hours walk when the Siberian wind is sweeping across the North Sea is a wonderful experience. With the lowest rainfall in the UK however the clarity of the Norfolk light can often be enjoyed even in the most gloomy times of year. In summer time the house opens up to the garden and life can spread outdoors during the long summer days.

The East Anglia / Norfolk region
The county of Norfolk has a unique and special atmosphere. The beaches with their characteristic Groynes stretching away in both directions are virtually empty even in high summer. We are 30 minutes away from the historic city of Norwich, with its thriving shoping centre and many interesting sights and the North Norfolk country houses and gardens are all close by. Boats can be hired by the hour or day if you fancy a day on the Norfolk Broads. The seal sanctuary at Blakeney is 30 minutes away by car.
Bacton area
Beautiful Norfolk coastline with big skies and empty sandy beaches make it a great place to relax and get away from your daily routine. Walking possible in the local area, many of the minor roads are part of the 'quiet lanes' network where walkers and cyclist have priority over cars. The beach is popular with families in the warmer weather and walkers and fishermen although it's never crowded as access is limited. Bacton village has 2 pubs, a great fish and chip shop, a general store, an Indian restaurant and a farm shop selling a wide range of local produce.
How to get there
30mins from Norwich by car. Train to North Walsham and 15 minutes by taxi (or 20 minutes by bicycle). Frequent trains from London Liverpool Street connecting at Norwich 2 hours drive from Stanstead airport.

Conditions
Dogs only - apologies but I'm allergic to cats! Although not fully accessible for wheelchairs, the property is very usable for people with limited mobility - there aren't stairs, floor levels are fairly uniform, the car can be driven right up to the paving outside the door. The shower is large and fairly accessible with a shower curtain, please ring or email me to discuss if you want to discuss your individual requirements - have had help designing it with someone with limited mobility who loves it there as she can enjoy the views of the beach from a chair in the living room.
