Backworth is a pretty village located just 5 miles north east of the Newcastle upon Tyne.
Newcastle and Gateshead are united by seven rivers across a stunning riverscape. Together they have become a single vibrant visitor destination. There is a huge range of attractions from ancient monuments to dynamic centres for music and the arts. The city is renowned for its fantastic shopping, and vibrant nightlife. In 2009 NewcastleGateshead was voted as the UK’s friendliest city. There is always something going on with a year round programme of events from family festivals, sporting events and must see exhibitions and performances.
Backworth is one of number of traditional North Tyneside villages which grew out the coal mining industry. With coal mining a distant memory in these parts, villages such as Backworth have retained their character and charm, but modernized to make them attractive as places to live and visit. The villagers in Backworth are very welcoming and there are several warm and friendly pubs in and around the village.
This village is ideal for those who wish to explore both Northumberland and County Durham, or for those who wish to stay in a picturesque rural location but remain within easy reach of Newcastle upon Tyne. The village is only 3½ miles west of the coast so is well situated for a walk along Tynemouth beach to Cullercoats or Whitley Bay.
This gorgeous little cottage would be the perfect destination for anyone who is keen to explore the region. It is situated near to Newcastle in a small, friendly village with a convenience store, pub, and hairdressers. The beach is within easy access by car (7km), as is Newcastle city centre (16km). If you're keen to explore further then take a short drive north to find yourself in beautiful, rural Northumberland, popular with walkers and nature-lovers. Backworth has it's own golf club and allows visitors to play during the week.
