Apartment | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
This delightful studio apartment for 2 people and makes a lovely holiday location for those on a smaller budget but who would still like an infinity swimming pool.
It comprises a living room, a bedroom with twin beds, a breakfast bar, a kitchen and a shower room. Outside there's a terrace for relaxing and dining alfresco. Guests have the use of the stunning infinity swimming pool and sun loungers are provided by the pool.
Located just outside the lovely village of Azillanet, you'll be able to look out on what must be one of the greatest views in Herault. There is a fantastic vista stretching out over the vineyards, the surrounding countryside, the local villages, a lake, and to the Pyrenees in the far distance.
The studio apartment is private and separate from another small holiday property on site and the owners' property.
Recently installed is a fabulous 10m x 6m infinity swimming pool, decked on 3 sides with the 4th side looking out over the simply stunning view. It has a poolside shower.
The area is ideal for lovers of the countryside and wild-life, bird-watchers, photographers, walkers or for fairly fit cyclists as the immediate area is quite hilly.
The grounds of the whole property extend to some 2.5 acres and consist of beautiful gardens, the landscaped pool area, woods and thyme-scented garrigue. There are a number of footpaths locally where you can enjoy some lovely walks.
The property is situated on the road to the ancient city of Minerve, a former Cathar stronghold and steeped in history.
It's an energetic 15-minute walk to the village of Azillanet where you can buy bread, croissants and a few basic necessities. For further shops and commerce it's a 10 minute drive into Olonzac.
This is an ideal location for a romantic holiday, or a quiet and relaxing break. Although in a tranquil location in the countryside, it is not too far from anywhere and is a great base for exploring the wine-producing region of Languedoc Roussillon. Carcassonne is just 45 minutes by car as is the Mediterranean coast - a day trip to Spain is an easy possibility.

About this location
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
This part of the Languedoc has a sunny, Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in July and August, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
The local village of Azillanet is a brisk 15-minutes walk away or 5 minutes in the car. It's an attractive village featuring stone-built houses, a little grocers that sells bread, a boulangerie van that visits daily at 8.30am, and a lovely old auberge open in the summer months for delicious local cuisine at a very fair price.
Azillanet boast a great wine 'cave' Les Trois Blasons where you can taste and buy the local wines. The neighbouring town of Olonzac has a supermarket, further shops, a bank, a pharmacy, cafe-bars and restuarants and a great Tuesday morning market.
Sports Facilities: as well as swimming in the pool here, you can try swimming from the beach at Lac du Jouarres locally, or from the Blue Flag sandy Mediterranean beaches just 45 minutes from here, where you'll also find all types of watersports available in the summer months.
Although locally hilly, cycling is just great here on the quiet roads and we can recommend a local cycle hire company who will deliver bikes to your door. Walkers - please take your boot and bird-watchers your binoculars! You can enjoy a round of golf at Beziers or at Carcassonne - and there are 'links' courses at the coast.
Sightseeing: There's plenty to do and see in this region. A visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the fascinating medieval city of Carcassonne, but there's plenty to see and enjoy too in Narbonne and Beziers. Within a short drive you'll find the ancient town of Minerve and the Canal du Midi, the wonderful abbeys at Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the Cathar Castles. The Spanish boder is just over 1 hour away by car so a day trip to Spain is easy.
There's also the giant caves at Cabrespine and Limousis and the African nature reserve near the coast at Sigean. Wine-producers offering wine tastings are abundant around here - just decide who is driving first!
Markets: the best local market is in Olonzac on a Tuesday morning, In Narbonne you will find markets on a Thursday and a Sunday morning. Also in Narbonne is a fantastic indoor food market ' Les Halles' where you'l find a lovely array of fresh local produce every morning of the week - and even on a Sunday morning.
Restaurants: Dine at the Auberge in Azillanet in the summer months, or in Minerve or Olonzac where there is a choice of restaurants. Book with us and we'll send you a list of all the recommended restaurants in the area.
Supermarkets: the nearest one is in Olonzac just 10 minutes drive away - and other larger ones e.g. Intermarche within 20-25 minutes drive.
