The Famagusta District
On the east coast of Cyprus lies the city of Famagusta which is the capital of the Famagusta District. It is on a bay between Cape Eloea and Cape Greco which is east of Nicosia.
Famagusta’s golden sandy beaches lie inside the government-controlled area. The beaches stretch out in the far eastern corner of Cyprus. Ayaia Napa and Paralimni are just some of the few paradises for those who love the sea as well as water sports.
Some of the places tourists visit in the charming scenery is Ayia Napa’s tiny fishing harbour, the medieval monastery, the small churches and windmills which are extremely close to each other and spreads out into the areas of Protaras and Paralimni. This region is also one of the major potato-producing areas on the island. This area is also known as red-soil villages or Kokkinochoria. This is because the soil in this area is deep red in colour. The reddish colour is due to the fact that the area has a lot of very high metal oxide. An interesting note is that the villages near Famagusta are known for their folk-poet who are the best on the island.
Ayia Napa / Kokines area
The popular holiday resorts of Ayia Napa and Paralimni have been called an absolute paradise for anyone who loves the sea and water sports. The charming scenery includes the tiny fishing harbour at the heart of the village and the windmills and small churches in the surrounding villages, which spread out to the area of Paralimni and Protaras.
Ayia Napa, once a small fishing village, boasts a superb Venetian decorated monastery with central octagonal fountain. It lends character and substance to a village that's better known to holidaymakers for its colourful shops, tavernas, discos and bars. A small Marine Life Museum presents exhibits of past and present marine fauna. The focal point of the resort is the small harbour, where the tavernas specialize in fresh fish harvested by the vibrant fishing vessels.
The Villa is only a few minutes drive to the centre of Ayia Napa and the facilities that the resort has to offer. There are lots of restaurants to choose from in the resort but worth a visit is Hokkaido Restaurant to experience the professional cooks who specialize in the art of sushi and the elegance of Japanese cuisine preparing your chosen dish in front of you and doing a small show with your dish ingredients, which add to the fun. Other restaurants to try include The Blueberries Restaurant and their specialist steaks and The Sea Star Fish Restaurant in the harbour for their fresh locally caught fish. Water sports are available from the beach to keep you entertained during the day and range from paragliding to water skiing. Book with us your favourite water sport today!
