The Famagusta District
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean & has 35 beaches which have successfully qualified for blue flag status. There is something in the area for everyone. Come for the summer and laze on the miles of golden sandy beaches (many have been warded with the blue flags) or get away from the cold winters and have a winter stay or come for the winter to ski in the Troodos mountains. Walking, biking or birdwatching at anytime of the year or just sit and relax and let the world go by.
Cyprus has one of the best climates in Europe, with 340 days of sunshine a year. Average temperatures range from 32 degrees centigrade in the summer, down to a still-pleasant 16 degrees in the winter.
Ayia Napa / Ayia Thekla area
Ayia Thekla is small quiet residential upmarket area yet it's on the main road which runs from Ayia Napa - Sotira. It offers such diversity from the a picturesque fishing refuge of Potomos with a Ventian watch-tower remains and Sotira with an array of Byzantine churches yet is on the fringe of Ayia Napa and Protaras offering the main tourist attractions. Ayia Napa, originally a small fishing village with harbour, has grown to be one of the main tourist attractions in the South East of the island. It has a charming mediaeval monestary, and stands in the middle of the village surrounded by a high wall . It's 16th centrury church is partly underground and cut into the rock. Along the beaches of Ayia Napa facilities for all sea sport are provided including :- wind - surfing, water skiing, sailing canoes, pedals, motor boats, scooters, speed boats, parachutes, scuba diving and more.
WATERWORLD WATERPARK - Ayia Napa, 5 minutes from the Villa. Waterworld Water park is the largest themed water-park in Europe. A visit to the park will take you literally to another world. Everywhere that you look there are Ancient statues and columns, expertly blended in with the landscape. All of the rides tell a mythological story, in fact when you go for a swim in one of the pools you almost expect to bump into a Greek warrior or God.
WaterWorld is a great outdoor water-park stretched across 80,000 square metres in the busy Mediterranean coastal resort of Ayia Napa, where 300 days of sunshine per year makes it a much needed place to splash around and relax. www.waterworldwaterpark.com
CAMEL PARK - MAZOTOS - Enjoy a camel caravan through the surrounding countryside of Mazotos village. After your ride, why not feed the camels? There is a small museum, a souvenir shop and games room for the children. There are more than just camels though... with a farmyard of animals around the "Noah's Ark".
You can also taste the lovely Cypriot dishes at the parks restaurant in a traditional and friendly atmosphere, or swim, sunbathe and relax by the pool with a cocktail from the pool bar. A fun day out for the whole family www.camel-park.com
MARINE LIFE MUSEUM - AYIA NAPA - Marine Life Museum is located in Ayia Napa's Town Hall. It is the first natural museum of its kind in Cyprus and it exhibits past and present marine life and promotes the study and research of marine life while also emphasising the importance of preserving the marine environment. The exhibits include a reconstruction of a dinosaur seabed, fish fossils, shells, sea urchins, sea turtles, sea plants and more. Every specimen in the museum was removed from its natural habitat after death. The Marine Life Museum is visited every year by thousands of tourists
OCEAN AQUARIUM - PROTARAS - For those who love the sea and the creatures who live in it, the Ocean Aquarium at Protaras provides the perfect day out. It offers a memorable aquatic adventure that is both educational and entertaining. This amazing world has an equally amazing 1,000 species to enthral all visitors, young and old alike.
AYIA NAPA TOWN - The centre of the town is built around a medieval monastery. This has been well preserved over the centuries and a visit here is like stepping back in time. Just to the side of the main square, traditional folk dancing takes place during the summer. At the end of September, the Ayia Napa Street Festival takes place and features singing and dancing performances. Special acts from all over the world are brought here to perform at the festival. One of the most beautiful locations to visit in Ayia Napa is the fishing harbour. A lot of money has been invested over the last couple of years to revitalise this area. The entire harbour has been made into a pedestrian zone, with cafs and seafood taverns lining the area. A wooden walkway spans the length of the harbour. At night, beautifully designed lights illuminate the area, setting the perfect scene for a romantic meal or a stroll along the harbour.
