The island is located in a beautiful area of the Costa de la Luz, along the west Andalucian coast. It is connected to the mainland by a stunning road bridge over the Atlantic Ocean, close to the border with Portugal.
The resort boasts a fine golf course, unspoilt sandy beaches, a modern marina, luxury hotels, and a good selection of restaurants and bars.

The Costa de la Luz / Huelva Province region
Golden sandy beaches that stretch and stretch, seven kilometres to be precise, washed with beautiful blue Atlantic waves, this is a beach-lovers paradise. Overcrowded is not a word often associated with these beaches, even in the height of summer you can lie amongst the dunes and listen to the waves in tranquillity.
Isla Canela is a development created with foresight. Predominantly 4 and 5 star hotels, low rise apartments and an 18 hole golf course give the Cinnamon Isle a classy feel. Developed in recent years with a great degree of control by the local authorities Isla Canela has a low density of building. Large swathes of marismas, marshland, dominate the landscape and offer protection for many varieties of wildlife.
The marina at Isla Canela has 230 berths, with plans in the pipeline to increase this to 800. Close to the Marina is the Commercial Centre with supermarkets, shops and an excellent range of bars and restaurants.
Ayamonte / Isla Canela area
The beaches of Isla Canela are the perfect place for kitesurfers and windsurfers. The highly prized beaches are very safe with a sandbank providing an ideal sheltered location for people learning to kitesurf and windsurf - they are regularly used by expert kitesurfers for instruction, and for their own enjoyment.
Located in front of La Sonrisa Restaurant, during the high season. Kanela Extreme offer kite and Windsurf classes.
Regular fishing trips can be booked at the marina in Isla Canela or if you prefer early morning fishing with the locals on the beach, buy your “live” bait from Ferreteria’s, on the corner, by the market in Ayamonte or, follow the ‘Cebo Vivo’ signs that spring up along the roadside from Ayamonte to The Island. There is also a sports shop in Ayamonte town, supplying a comprehensive choice of fishing tackle. Along the beach, bass and mullet are plentiful, fish by the rocks near the Riu Atlantico and there’s a good chance you will catch Conger.
Isla Canela and Ayamonte is surrounded by protected areas teeming with wildlife. Well known for its ornithological bird life, this area is a natural wildlife haven. The Marismas del Guadiana, the marshes of the Guadiana estuary, are rich in birdlife, including herons, storks and flamingos.
