The apartment, built in 2005, is situated on a small, quiet complex on Isla Canela in Southern Spain. Access to the complex is through security gates and allocated numbered parking is below the apartment, served by lifts and staircases. The apartment is on the first floor, and is surrounded by attractive grounds which are well-lit at night. The large south-facing terrace, with attractive views, overlooks the golf course, which borders the entire complex. A fully fenced area, accessible only by key, contains a large outdoor swimming pool, separate children's pool and play area. Private tennis courts can be used by residents, while reduced green fees are available on the golf course.

The wide entrance hall to the apartment leads to a separate kitchen with an adjacent utility/drying area.The large lounge and dining area has patio doors which open out onto the large terrace. There are 2 bedrooms, a separate shower room with toilet, while the main bedroom has an en suite bathroom, also with a toilet. Heating or cooling is provided by air conditioning units in the lounge and the 2 bedrooms.

A stay in Isla Canela is great for families and couples, looking for a fun and relaxing holiday, as well those wanting to enjoy playing golf in very attractive surroundings and a pleasant climate.

The kitchen has a large fridge/freezer, an electric hob and oven and cupboards where cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are stored. A separate door opens out into a secure storage/drying area where the washing machine is housed. The large lounge/diner has comfortable seating, a settee which converts into a double bed, as well as formal table and chairs for eating. A 32" flat screen TV with CD/DVD facilities provides a wide range of entertainment choices.

Both bedrooms have twin beds, bedside tables and built-in wardrobes with plenty of storage. The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom, comprising a bath with shower, washbasin, toilet and bidet, while the shower room has a full-size shower, washbasin and toilet.

The Andalucia region

The Costa de la Luz enjoys a friendly climate, and has more sunshine hours and less rain per year than even the Costa del Sol. In keeping with its name Luz (meaning "light"), the region has long hours of sunlight and beautiful sunsets over the south-facing coastline. The winter daytime temperature seldom falls below 60 degrees farenheit, while the maximum summer temperature is a moderate 86 degrees compared to further inland where it can reach 104 degrees!

Still largely untouched by mass tourism exploitation, the original culture and heritage of the local people is very much present with large national parks and bird sanctuaries in the region. In addition to the fabulous beaches, Isla Canela is very close to the border with Portugal with the attractions of the Algarve only a short car journey away. A day trip to Seville on the banks of the Guadalquivir River provides a wonderful experience of Spanish architecture and history, with vibrant shopping and nighlife. A different trip to the Rio Tinto mines, and a ride on the train, is reminiscent of an Indiana Jones movie! Expeditions into the unspoilt countryside provide great opportunities for memorable experiences.

Golfers cannot fail to enjoy the favourable climate, suitable for year round golf, and the great variety of courses available within no more than an hour's drive from the apartment. On the doorstep, the Isla Canela course (par 72), completed in 1994, is both challenging and enjoyable for all abilities, and is very reasonably priced for apartment guests. There is a friendly clubhouse with a restaurant and practice facilties. Combined with visits to other nearby courses, this will provide a very enjoyable golfing break.

Ayamonte

Ayamonte is on the River Guadiana, and is an important fishing port. Walking through the narrow streets, looking in the shops and relaxing in the pleasant squares, brings the true atmosphere of this part of Spain. The habour, lined with palm trees and whitewashed houses, adds to the town's attraction, with many superb fish and tapas bars to sample. The nobleness and age of the town are evident amongst its ruins and monuments, with Baroque churches and Manueline influences arising from its close proximity to Portugal. A trip up the river is one activity not to be missed. There are numerous festivals during the year including an International music event in August and processions at Easter - a full list is available.

The apartment is close by on Isla Canela, a natural island linked by bridge to Ayamonte. The island boasts 7km of fine sandy beaches, which are framed by sand dunes and pine trees. The gentle slope of the Atlantic and the sandbanks just off the coast ensure that whole beach has a gentle surf and is pleasant for swimming or just relaxing. The Island also boasts a fine marina, a few minutes drive away, with sailing, canoeing and shops, bars and restaurants on the quayside catering for residents and visitors alike. The nearby small village of Punta Moral has a very active fishing industry where several fish restaurants provide delicious meals prepared from fresh ingredients.

"Christmas on Isla Canela"

After staying here in January 2012, we promised ourselves a return trip, so we decided to spend 3 weeks in the apartment over Christmas & New Year 2012/13 . We loved every minute of it! It was like going home, knowing what was provided & where it was made life very easy as well as very comfortable. The sun didn't let us down either, with around 18 degrees by afternoon most days. It was cool in the mornings & late evenings, but we didn't care, the 6 or 7 hours of warmth each day more than made up for it. We golfed in shorts 6 out of the 7 times we played (too embarrassed the 1st time), whereas our home course had barely been open for weeks & is now covered by snow!
We "ate in" most evenings & enjoyed shopping for our fresh food in Ayamonte (10 minutes away). The "Supermercados" were full of Spanish delights & we tried many of them. The locals were out in force over the festive Holidays, but no need for "queue busters" here. It was far from the manic buying back home. The price of food was quite cheap, with meat, fish, veggies, wine & Cava great value. We went over the river to Portugal many times, using the car or the ferry. It was a great festive atmosphere on both sides of the river, with the highlight being the arrival of The 3 Kings into Spain by ferry from Portugal on January 5th. They led a parade through the streets of Ayamonte & threw sweets galore to the kids. They seem to have 2 Christmas's in Spain, lucky things. I think we'll do it again this year!

"Good quiet apartment and value for money"

A very good comfortable and well equipped apartment in a quiet area. Swimming pool was never busy even though we were there in August! Very easy access to Isla Canela beaches, restaurants and supermarkets. Only half an hour drive to the excellent blue flag beaches in Portugal.

"Golf in the winter sun"

We enjoyed 2 wonderful weeks here, We chose the apartment over a hotel stay to give us more relaxation and freedom, as well as a choice of eating, or trying the local
restaurants. It worked well. The apartment had everything we were promised & we were very comfortable. The apartment felt very safe, with user friendly security gates and our own car parking space close to the lift. Property was minutes from the Ayamonte Road, meaning we could reach the golf course, beach, marina or the town within 5 to 10 minutes.Shopping was easy, with 3 supermarkets & a fresh foodmarket in town. Golf course is good & not badly priced. We loved our stay & will hopefully return
