With over 300 days a year sunshine, this unspoilt corner of South West Spain lives up to its name of the "Coast of Light". Refreshing sea breezes take the edge off the summer heat. Mild winters give way to warm springs, with a profusion of blossom from the January-flowering almond trees to the explosion of orange scent in April. T-shirt and shorts weather through to the autumn make this an ideal all-year-round holiday destination. The first choice of holiday location for many Spanish people, and one of Spain's best-kept secrets.
Some of Europe's best sandy beaches are to be found in the little resorts along this coast, both on the Spanish and Portuguese sides - the Algarve is just 5 minutes' drive across the magnificent new river bridge. The sights and sophistication of Seville are just over an hour by car. Charming, unspoilt towns abound on both sides of the border, with castles and fortresses to remind you of the region's colourful past.
Nature lovers will relish the Dunas de Donana National Park just over an hour away - home to lynx and Imperial eagles.
Food lovers will enjoy the rich variety of fresh seafood, and the much-prized ham from the famous acorn-fed black pigs
Few months go by without one of the colourful and exuberant festivals (fiestas) for which the region is famous.
The Ayamonte / Costa Esuri area
The golf resort of Costa Esuri is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, right on the River Guadiana that forms the border between Spain and Portugal. Look out for the flamingos, storks and wild ponies as you cross the bridge into the resort. Miles of unspoilt countryside lie right behind the apartment, with rolling, pine- and cork-oak covered hills as far as the eye can see.
Just 5 minutes drive away is the traditional but bustling town of Ayamonte. Take a gentle stroll round the shops in the picturesque, winding (and pedestrianised!) streets. Relax over a drink or a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants and tapas bars in the pretty little squares, or by the marina. The perfect place to try the local specialities of Iberican ham, and seafood straight from the local fishing boats.
The nearest beach resort is Isla Canela, just a few minutes' drive from Ayamonte. Miles of golden sands, friendly beach bars and a range of watersports make for a perfect day out for the family. With sandy beaches within 15 minutes' drive on the Portuguese side as well, you will be spoilt for choice. There are 30 km of uninterrupted sandy beaches on the Spanish side of the border alone, most of them "blue flag".
The Cartaya waterpark is only 30 minutes drive away. Riverboat cruises up the Guadiana provide an opportunity to relax (and eat!) amidst stunning scenery. Go-karting, quad biking, fishing, cycle hire and horse-riding are all available too.
The area is a golfers' paradise, with no fewer than 15 courses (including the resort's own 2 championship-standard courses) within half an hour's drive, both in Spain and Portugal. The Costa Esuri West Course has a links feel to it because of the river, while the recently-opened East Course is a great challenge. Compare them with the new Seve Ballesteros course at Quinta do Vale, visible over the river from Costa Esuri, and with the sensational Jack Nicklaus course at Monte Rei, already rated as one of the top golf venues in Europe. But holiday golf in gorgeous surroundings is available at a host of other courses, at a fraction of the price of some of the well-known and overcrowded courses of the Central Algarve.
The area's rich and varied wildlife make it a haven for birdwatchers. Look out for the storks, egrets, black-legged stilts, avocets, purple herons, flamingos and purple gallinules on the golf courses and by the river, and for the bee eaters and golden orioles in the countryside behind the apartment.
There is a regular walking group that meets twice a week for comfortable-length guided walks in the beautiful unspoilt countryside on the Portuguese side of the river.

The apartment is in a safe, secure complex with a mixture of families and holiday rentals so the surrounds and apartments are maintained very well. A very comfortable and spacious two bedroomed apartment with all the facilities to self cater or if you prefer a short drive and you can access many bars and restaurants in Costa Esuri, Ayamonte or across the bridge in Villa Real. A lovely location with good beaches nearby and very localised and unspoilt. Great access to many golf courses as well. All in all a fabulous place for a relaxing holiday. |

If a cancellation is necessary after paying your deposit or after full payment has been made for the cost of the holiday, the following are the terms of cancellation:
55-29 days Loss of 50% of deposit
28-22 days Loss of full deposit
21-7 days Loss of 50% of holiday cost plus full deposit
7 days or less Loss of 100% of holiday cost plus full deposit
A booking only becomes firm on receipt of your deposit payment of 20%. Full payment is due six weeks before departure date. If you book the accommodation within six weeks of departure, then full payment is due at the time of booking.
