The Costa de la Luz region

Isla Canela is located in a tranquil and unspoiled area of the Costa de la Luz on the western part of the Andalucia coastline facing the Atlantic ocean (see maps). It is a natural island connected by a road bridge to Ayamonte in the province of Huelva.
It is situated very close to the border of Portugal in an area also known as the Spanish Algarve. It shares the charms of both Spain and Portugal with all their advantages. It is a fantastic region for enjoying sun, beach, sailing, golf, cycling, culture and scenic nature reserves and bird sanctuaries.
The Isla Canela resort comprises of a Golf course, vast fine sandy beaches, a modern leisure marina, luxury hotels, small commercial centres, restaurants and cafes. It is also home to a small fishing village as well as a large protected bird sanctuary.

The Ayamonte / Isla Canela Golf area
There is a water park between Ayamonte and Huelva (20 minutes) which is an excellent day out if you have children.
Isla Canela is a designated nature reserve. Many forms of wildlife exist on the island including many species of bird.
The area is also very big on Iberico Ham. This is the acorn fed animals kept up in the surrounding hills. The ham produced here is considered some of the best in the whole of Spain.

Isla Canela can be easily reached from Faro International Airport. A forty five minute car journey through the Portugese/Spanish border, over the magnificent bridge.
Follow the signs for Ayamonte and you will soon be directed to Isla Canela.

We stayed her in July 2011. Fantastic value. Easy drive from Faro. Roads are very quiet in comparison to England & other drivers very laid back in local area.
