About the home

Set in a quiet location only 5 minutes walk away from the busy (and at times noisy) centre of the village of Axat (one minute by car) this lovely old house has wonderful views from all rooms, a large private garden and has been completly restored with style. The terrace where we serve breakfast on warmer days is also a lovely place to sit and sip a glass of fizz prior to one of our excellent evening meals. If you prefer to eat out the village has an excellent Bar (serving food) with large terrace next to the river and a good restaurant.

Aux Quatre Saisons is the perfect place to either sun bathe in the garden, try out the excellent local walks or explore the nearby Cathar castles. Less than an hour from the medieval city of Carcassonne, we are a haven for cyclists (the Tour de France passes our front gate most years) and walkers (we are situated on the world famous Sentier Cathar walking trail). We have won multiple awards for service (winners of TripAdvisor's service excellence award 4 years in succession and voted best chambre d'hote in France 2012). We are Paul and Val Bridgestock. We are English so language is not a problem. We will do our best to give you the best holiday poosible. We hope to see you here soon here in the sunny south of France!

Our large appartment sleeps up to 4 (a double and up to two single beds) and benefits from a lounge area with leather Chesterfield settee and chairs and also a dining area and simple kitchenette equipped with a full size fridge stocked with complimentary drinks,etc. The appartment is very well equipped with LCD 32 inch television (with British Sky television) and a DVD player. The room has bookcases and all the furniture is top class (the Chesterfield leather settee and chair came from Harrod's originally and all the other furniture is solid and stylish). There are wonderful views from the 5 picture windows. It has two ceiling fans and a portable high power air conditioning unit. Please note that the staircase up to the appartment is quite steep (although at the time of writing this advert we have an 82 year old genteman staying up there and he has had no problems). Paul will take any bags upstairs for you with pleasure.

Our lovely lounge, which we light just by candle light in the evenings is a wonderful place to sit and share a drink. Paul is an excellent cook and four course evening meals are available at 22.50 € including a tasting menu of excellent local wines starting off with the wonderful Blanquette de Limoux sparkling wine and canape's and finishing off with coffee and cognac, etc. We do not charge for extras and beware quoted prices elsewhere which come with a sting in the tale! This advert is for our appartment (for two people, extra people at 15 € per person per night) but we also have a superb garden room with private terrace and two other bedrooms available (please see our website or contact us for details of those rooms). All our prices INCLUDE an excellent breakfast made with wonderful local ingredients and served either on the terace or in the dining room which also has lovely views. Further details outdoors:
The most important part of any house in the south of France is the outside space and while the inside of the house is lovely, the garden and terrace area are wonderful. We are very happy to serve drinks and coffee in the garden and you can sit next to the stream that runs through the garden and look at the fantastic mountain views. Best of all, it is very quiet here being set away from the very busy and noisy centre of the village but it is the best of both worlds being only a few minutes walk away from the centre of the village which has a great restaurant and Bar. Less than 5 minutes walk away is the fantastic new village pool which is heated with water slides, etc and is a wonderful place to take a picnic and while away the afternoon.

We are less than an hour from the wonderful medieval city of Carcassonne and we are situated right in the centre of the Cathar castles (the nearest is only ten minutes away) and 25 minutes away from the lovely Gorge de Galamus. We were voted one of the best 10 places to stay in France 2010 by Cycing Plus magazine and if you are planning on cycling the Tour de France route up the Col de Pailheres (wonderful but hard work!) we are very happy to store your cycles in the house for security.

Prices listed are for 4 people based on our standard rate for 2 people, plus an extra 15 € per person per night for each additional person. So if you are just 2 people the price will be less! Unlike many other properties listed we INCLUDE an excellent breakfast in all our prices.

Conditions

We do not charge for animals but please be aware that we have a 28 year old cat called Lucky Puss, (and to pass 28 years she certainly is!). She is obviously very old so if you are bringing a dog please make sure that they are not aggressive towards other animals (our cat cannot run very fast now!) We have another cat, 6 years old and we also have a small Shetland sheepdog who loves everybody!

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

The Languedoc is the sunniest region of France. We havec four distinct seasons here and while the summers are wonderful do consider other times of the year. The Autumn here is the most spectacular when the mountain opposite the house explodes in colour as the trees change and the spring is lovely whenm the wild flowers and butterfies appear. In winter it is cold here at night but very loveley and while we are in the valley we are only 25 minutesd from ski slopes. We are set in the middle of several airports and we are happy to help with airport pickups etc. We want to help! Please ask for details.

The Axat area

Please see our website for more details of local attractions but suffice to say we are set right in the centre of one of the most historic aras of France and there really is lots to do! We are experts on the local area and can arrange white water rafting on the river(fantastic fun), horseriding and guided walking tours. Please ask for details.

Ryanair fly into Carcassonne and Perpignan from many UK airports, both are less than an hour away from us.
They also fly into Girona in northern Spain, less than 2 hours away.
