The Avignon / Avignon Historic City Centre area
Avignon, a strategic site in the rhone valley, owes its origine to the Doms rock. With the arrival of the popes in the 14th Century, the city became a second Rome. It was enriched by art in the 17th and 18th Century, and its remained papal property up to the French révolution.
Strolling in the old streets in search of antic dealers and art galeries, discover its local cuisine in the tea-rooms and the restaurants. Taste the famous Côtes du Rhône wine of which Avignon is the Capital.

We stayed with our son and his girlfriend (and pets) and found this apartment perfect for our needs. It is stylishly converted and well equipped and the location is perfect to explore the city, but also to drive out to other places. The living area gets lots of sun and the air conditioning meant it didn't it get too hot. The private parking space adjacent to the chapel was a real asset. Good internet speed too. The owner was very helpful and showed us around the rest of the chapel that he is converting which was very interesting. The apartment is a short walk from a boulangerie and shops/restaurants and you can readily explore all the city within the walls on foot. It is also near the station so it would be possible to arrive by train and/or do some sightseeing to other places by train. There is so much to see in the area that a week is not enough and we would like to come back. Pont du Gard, Nimes, Orange, Arles, Chateau Neuf du Pape are all well worth a visit. |

We stayed at La Chapelle du Miracle in March 2012. It's a clean, pleasant, comfortable, well equipped little flat that's centrally located so it's easy to walk to all the main sites and the centre of town. The owner Francois is helpful and friendly. I would certainly recommend this to a couple or a couple + 1 older child. Just a word of warning though, I don't think the steps into the living room could be secured against a small child falling down them, and the flat is furnished with two smallish double beds rather than the usual double + 2 x twins. |
