Northern Portugal region

Closest city is Aveiro. The city dates back at least to the 10th century when it was known by its first Latin name of Alavarium, literally, "a gathering place or preserve of birds." The Moors invaded and then held it until the 11th century, after which it became popular with Portuguese royalty.

In this region are the FATIMA SANCTUARY, about 80Km, from the propertie. It is in this famous place that the three litle shepards, have seen for three times the aparitions of the holly Lady of Fatima, and people ftom all over the world come to the Santuary, to pray especialy in the 13th of May.

At about 50Km, is the city of Coimbra, famous by the universitys, one of the oldest in Europe.

Aveiro

Visit the city of Aveiro (10 minutes by car from the house) also known as "The Venice of Portugal" due to its beautiful canals, it is worth to do a tour in the estuary of the region on the traditional boats ("Moliceiros"), which give an overall view of this beautiful city.

Don't forget to taste the region's famous "soft eggs" ("Ovos moles"), a local delicatessen, which sell in all the pastries.

Magnificent beaches of fine white sand, surrounded by bars and animation or more quiet and peaceful areas allow you to enjoy the hot summer days or spend a pleasant winter afternoon. We recommend the beaches of "Costa Nova" or "barra" with his secular lighthouse.

Don't miss the opportunity to see traditional houses with blue and red stripes of Costa Nova, taking the opportunity to taste one of the famous "tripas" with soft eggs or chocolate after a nice lunch or dinner of fish or seafood freshly fished, in one of the friendly restaurants you can find there.

The Natural Reserve of São Jacinto Dunes has a number of trails and observation points for bird watching at your disposal.

Very close, in Sever do Vouga, you can have a nice walk in nature and visit the beautiful Cascade Cabreia or the architectural "Moorish oven".

To spend lovely morning or afternoon visit the enchanted "place of the affections" (Lugar dos Afectos - http://www.lugardosafectos.pt), which is located 5 minutes away.

A 1 hour away, with his exceptional beauty is the enchanted forest of Bussaco, being well worth a visit to Bussaco Palace Hotel. "

"Wonderful Villa"

We just returned from a stay with friends at this villa. The place is beautiful and very well appointed; the kitchen is very large and we enjoyed some great meals around the large table. There was plenty of space for our group of eight in the house. The garden is amazing, with fruit trees, a pool and plenty of chairs to enjoy the peaceful valley behind the house after a day of sightseeing.. The town is very small and does not offer many amenities so a car is essential. We really enjoyed the nearby city of Aveiro and little coastal villages in the area where we had some wonderful seafood.

"Great early 20the century Art Nouveau villa with big garden, pool and a very nice help who took really good care of us!"

We travelled with eight adults and one child of six years old from Holland to Frossos 60km away from Porto. The villa was extraordinary. The atmosphere was really authentic with decorated ceilings and carved woodwork on the doors. The house has a very big garden with fruit trees, a pool and outdoor kitchen. We were very warm welcomed by the owner who already had bought some groceries so we could start our holiday with a loveley glass of wine and a meal prepared by the cook. We booked this cook and maid together with the house and that was an excellent choice. Annabella took care of the breakfast with fresh orange juice from the oranges in the garden. She made our beds and cleaned and at night she cooked for us. If you get the chance to go here ask for here beefstew and special patatoes. As a person Annabella is very helpfull and kind. She even prepared our outside grill as well as the sidedishes so that we only had to grill the meat ourselves. If you do not have basic knowledge of Portugese or Spanish it is hard to communicate with her. But a smile and a translator on your smartphone or tablet wille help. We all would recommend this villa for families and groups of friends!
