About this location
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Autignac is a small village located in one of France's oldest wine growing regions, offering plenty of opportunities to visit the 'directe vente' to sample and purchase the local wines!
Why not hire a bike or boat and make your way along the Canal du Midi. Visit historic Carcassonne, or wander around the cobbled streets in Pezenaz, which has a wonderful Saturday market where you can purchase the local produce, or sit and relax in the many bars or pop into the many boutiques. Narbonne has a long sandy beach and a Sunday market set alongside the canal or visit the beautiful Cathedral.
Sete is a beautiful fishing port where you can while away a Sunday over a long lunch of fresh seafood.
Just a 25 minute drive from the house will take you to Roquebrun which lies on the River Orb and spend the day out swimming in fresh water, or hire the canoes and make your way downstream! For the young at heart take the drive to Cap D'Adge to Aqualand waterpark for the day. There are many beaches to visit - Valras Plage is a family beach, with a wonderful icecream parlour for the children. A list of all the beaches with their star rating can be found in the information pack in the house). Visit the Haute Languedoc National Park - canyoning, cycling, hiking, climbing or canoeing. Rock climbing enthusiasts make their way to the rugged mountain terrain to perhaps Gorges du Chassez or lower climbs of Fauzan due Cros or Caunes.
With a year round warm climate this is a beautiful region to visit any time, and can reach 33C in May with temperatures rising!
If you fancy a long weekend stay in the winter months and would like to try your feet at skiing/snowboarding, then Font Romeu is only a 2 hour drive away and I can strongly recommend the resort. How about a paella lunch and glass of Sangria in Barcelona - just over a 2 hour drive.
Autignac has its own bar/cafe which is a great meeting place and just around the corner from the house. The village has a fruit and vegetable store where you can purchase the essentials and just 5 mins in the car there is an Intermarche - cash point available.
Magalas is the next village and has a lively family run bar/restaurant called Excalibur's, serving pizzas, steaks, fish dishes and other simple plates and caters for the locals, expats and visitors. Great place for simple family meals out; but if you fancy a romantic treat, then try 'O Bontemps' in Magalas - just trust the chef, but book well in advance. Magalas has plenty of takeaways, a bank and supermarket.
If you don't want to travel too far on your first day, but want to cool off, then jump in the car for a 5 min drive to the campsite in Laurens where you can use the pool for 4 Euros (proper swimming trunks must be worn)!

"Good value house in a lovely area"
Well equip and Charming house, really enjoyed the birds swooping from the rooftops on the terrace. The stairs to the top bedroom and terrace were steep, but when up there it was really charismatic and lovely.
The owner was very helpful in the process. She also gave us information on what to do and where to go as we arrived on a Sunday. The house was tidy and had everything you needed including loads of ideas of where to go. We may have been too early for the season, as it could have done with a deep spring clean.
The medieval village Autignac is surrounded by vineyards and very quiet. It had a had a bakery, cafe and small shop which were very useful. It was in a lovely area and the locals were very friendly. We had the pleasure of the town announcement of the fish man in the square which was fab.
Great value house in a lovely area, not for people who will struggle with steep or tight stairs.
