The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region

The Green Provence (Provence Verte) is the heart of the Var region in Provence, South of France. The advantage being that you may access and visit all the region easily from Monaco through Avignon, Cavaillon, Gordes and from the sea to the beginning of the pre Alps.
You will not be along the coast where driving is useless and therefore visits are time consuming but you have the splendid Sainte Croix Lake where you may enjoy the water, sailing, but also Canoeing and why not rafting. And you can still spend a day or more at the sea as it is only 60 kms away.
If France is shaded with clouds and rain, this region remains more often clear, sunny, warm and therefore rain is just like gold. The region is superb, with many picturesque countryside and lovely small villages discovered when driving along the small and quiet roads.
Local vineyards produce excellent well-known wines, which may be tasted as you go around the region at any of the largest or smaller domaines' caves. The people have a soft singing accent and are living generally in a quite relaxed way.
You will enjoy the many olive trees as well as the lavender fields and many flowers which vary depending of the season. On your way, You will find places where you may find shade and small restaurant terraces under the typical platane trees to enjoy a small fresh drink. Not to forget of course the smell of nice local spice essences.
This green Provence is midway between the Sea and the pre Alpes and so close (10kms) away from the Splendid turquoise Verdon Lake and all its beautiful surroundings (including lavender fields) and its nautical activities.
The Aups / Moissac Bellevue area
What would you like to enjoy? Relaxing at the swimming pool, doing some canoeing, playing golf, fishing, walking or cycling in the immense and beautiful protected resort of the Verdon, visiting the attractive and numerous monuments, ruins, vestiges, ramparts, museums, medial bridges, or just visiting a basilica.
You might wish to take the children to the sea for the day, or just take advantage of all the water activities available at the Verdon lake (10 kms away from the house), do some pedalo? What about visiting the water falls of Sillans la Cascade?
Visit the artisans making osier baskets or rent a Vespa to tour around the area or why not enjoy the nice local restaurants? You might know the famous, fancy and highly recommended restaurant of Bruno in Lorgues? Tennis is available in the area as well as many other activities you might consider?
What is special in the very close region? Maybe the lavender fields, the olive trees and production of olive oil, the many tasty food products, ie. local cheese, fruits (melon, figues, lemons, etc), vegetables, and not to forget the Truffles of Aups. Of course one should visit the so typical & colourful markets.
Along the coast one should not forget Cassis and the boat tour along the little cliffs, or the boat ride between Sainte Maxime and Saint Tropez. If one visits Marseille and its port, this should be an opportunity to taste their famous bouillabaisse (fish specialty). Or Cannes and its summer film festival, Avignon, Monte Carlo Principality, Gordes (one of the most beautiful places), Cavaillon. And for sure all the very antic villages spread all over the region.
Moissac Bellevue is not be too for from Maseille, Toulon, Cannes, Nices, and the famous St. Tropez village. It is at at 60 kms away from the Mediterranean sea (Saint Raphael), and at only 10 kms from the exceptional Sainte Croix turquoise Lake and the biggest canyon in Europe: the Gorges du Verdon.
On this occasion you might be interested to take some time to visit the famous and wonderful village of Moustier Sainte Marie well known for its faïence. At proximity, you also have the largest geological reserve: the Museum in Digne les Bains, Castellane and Sisteron and prehistory museum of Quinson.
You are near the cliff dug of Vellecroze, partially natural and partially created by the hand of the man and the village in the sky called "Tourtour". At a reachable distance, what about spending a day visiting the Baux de Provence, an ancient fortress which sits atop a promontory of rock, Gordes which was selected as the most beautiful charming village in France, as well as Avignon and its famous bridge, etc.
