Ebenezer Mansions surrounded by farmland and the enchanting countryside, is within easy walking distance of the popular historic town of Aumale having many half-timbered buildings. It dates back to the 1900's and was originally a cotton-mill warehouse. During 2007 it was completely transformed, yet thoughtfully renovated, to bring out the magnificent oak beams in the exposed roof spaces, into a stunning and elegant two storey villa. It certainly has that wow factor as soon as you enter the door !

The Villa itself is light and airy as all the six bedrooms are double, with the natural light being maximised through the clever use of sky-lights. The open-plan design of the whole ground floor area : Kitchen, lounge and dining -room, makes it truly spacious and especially suitable for all from the elderly, for wheel-chair access, to the very young. The Kitchen has everything you might need, even to do some home baking with the kids! There are at least two fridges and a freezer.

We've designed the villa to have a bathroom on each floor to make it both suitable for family and friends. Not only is the standard of renovation, the highest, but we can equally ensure that at the start of each booking we offer a clean home with freshly laundered sheets! With everything laid on for you to just unpack and relax. For those people flying from abroad, we would be more than willing to supply additional items for a small charge such as bath towels and bathroom accessories, flasks and insulated food boxes to minimise the things you need to bring as luggage. Please ask in advance for any requirements.

We're also pleased to offer for booking, on the same site, a newly renovated 3 bedroom cottage which (sleeps 6) and stands along the waters front. The flat rate for this is just £395 a week. So please ask us for more details of this 'Little Gem'. Combining both Properties, Emmanuelle Mansions can sleep up to 20 people. Seated altogether for meals in Ebenezer's Dining room, using it's extensive Kitchens rates from under £1000.

Further details indoors

The Villa is highly energy efficient. Newly installed electric wiring throughout, has enabled us to have English plugs accessible in each room of the Villa! It is also well designed on a modern theme with three double bedrooms on each floor, having their own high specification bathrooms. The living room, Kitchen / Dining Room (25ft) {7.5m} are all open plan which makes the ground floor layout perfect for entertaining the whole family. In here are a TV, with DVD or a Video player. The two electric velux windows directly above the dining area, allows natural light to stream into these rooms.

Directly above the kitchen we've fitted a mezzanine area, which has such breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside. We suggest that it is to be used for the children by putting a mini pool table, tv with video player, as well as a host of toys and children videos.

The open plan lounge, dining area below, leads to a garage / utility room which is well equipped, incorporating two airers for indoor drying, washing machine and ironing facilities.. Additionally, the space in this room has been further utilised by having it kitted out with a full size table tennis table! Which everyone to date has said "is so much fun"!.

Finally, smoke detectors are fitted in most rooms. This property is strictly non smoking .

Further details outdoors

Safety for our children was foremost in our minds in designing the rear courtyard as a safe all weather area for kids to play. This makes it ideal for a summer or winter break.

With that aim in mind, we've fitted a basket ball net and provided a five a side goal post for football. There is separate space for a patio table and chairs here too, making it an ideal location for the barbecue. During the summer months there is an Open Air Pool in the town centre, which is even open on Sundays.

This courtyard was formally an artists studio, you can see why, with the views of the surrounding hills and farmland and the meandering streams leading to the two large lakes just five minutes from the villa.

There are at least 4 bicycles (Suitable for teenagers). However, please bring your own safety equipment, such as helmets and lights.

Fishing is possible as there are two large lakes, which I know have brown trout, though, please note, a fishing licence is required. This town offers many convenient past-times like Archery and there is even horse-riding about 5Km away. The owner, Isabel, has gone out of her way to allow both the novice and experienced riders to use the excellent facilities in all weathers.

The drive in area at the front has just being divided to make it as car free as possible. One of the benefits of this is that we can now take advantage of the sun from this aspect of the property. Therefore, outdoor table and chairs are available for use here.

Further details

We'd love to encourage smaller families to visit this Pretty part of France especially outside the school Holiday Season.

As an incentive to come and explore this remarkable region of France. Now, you can get a great discount of 10% at off-peak periods;- that's only £475! More details are given with the terms & conditions and the booking form.

Rental payments are due in full 8 weeks in advance. Booking deposits are 25% of the weeks rental fee and these are non refundable but can be transferred to another date if cancelled.

Exclusive for Summer 2013. Our rates have returned to just below the launch rate in Spring 2008. We're pleased to say, this is now inclusive of the utility charges, (Water /Electrics). We've decided to do this because we found with running a highly energy efficient home, the average total costs, when split to 50% were really quite small. However, this excludes central heating, which is charged at £16 per day. There is also a charge of £75 for the meeters / greeters welcome fee. Both are normally taken from the returnable security deposit of £300 which is taken with the final instalment being paid, presuming the property is left clean + no damage either.

Bed linen is provided F.O.C as are hand towels.

The Normandy region

Normandy is made up of five rich and varied counties:- Seine maritime, Eure, Orne, Calvados and Manche. Aumale is within the Seine maritime region of Normandy, approximately, two hours from Paris. In-between the seine valley and channel coast, famous for its dramatic cliff lines, rolling open countryside and the twist and turns of the River Seine. We are on the border of the Picardy or Picardie region:

Normandy, with its proximity to Paris for Disneyland together with a number of fashionable seaside resorts like Dieppe, Hornflour or Tourville along its coast indicate that this region has everything you could wish for; Etretat, Fecamp and Dieppe are three of the coastal areas well worth a mention.

Dieppe is a gem of a town. Famous for its Saturday morning market. Many of the streets in the old town just have to be explored. A majority of these are pedestrianised and it is delightful to view the historic buildings dating back to the17th century on foot. ...soaking in the atmosphere created by an abundance of timbered houses and huge chateaux set in the circuit of a glorious medieval past.

People who have stayed here have been to visit the historical world war II sites in Mont St Michel, Vimy and the Somme. Locally, towns like Rouen and Amiens, are truly places of inspiration. Indeed, Rouen, is known as the jewel in the crown -considered to be the capital of upper Normandy- Itself only half an hours drive from Aumale. The neighbouring county of Picardy (Picardie) also has long sandy beaches by the Somme estuary in the west.

Aumale

Aumale is a very popular base with Parisians, especially for the beach!

Quiet a historic town itself, with many of the half-timbered houses so characteristic in this region. It's not surprising then that you won't find a single charity shop in the town-it has a diverse range of specality shops like patisserie bakeries, butchers, delicatessens and an anglers accessories shop, which by the way sells the fishing licence (~5 Euros per day).

There seems to have been a deliberate choice to place the only supermarket (Intermarche) just outside town. A tourist office in the centre will keep you updated as to what is going on in the locality.

We are pleasantly amazed by the different things we find to do here. During the summer we found an archery club just near the two lakes and by the villa. We located a delightful horse riding school three miles from Aumale-They have been more than willing to take on the novice rider!

During Summer, we learnt that Aumale has a public heated Open Air Pool in the town centre. The nearest Indoor pools are in the towns of Formarie ~15km away and Grandvillers 20Km-this town has a larger indoor pool.

There is a Quad Biking arena not far from the town.

Eating out in Aumale is affordable as it not only has a pizza and Turkish Kebab restaurant in the centre but there is another pizza place just behind the Ebenezer which is set by the waterfront. This same country road also leads into the town centre.

"Excellent value. Excellent location"

Spent a week with the family at Ebeneezer Mansions, including 4 kids (3yrs - 10yrs), parents and grandparents. Each year we spend a week away together and each year it gets harder to find a different self-catering property that meets our needs and budget. This property was ideal being very spacious and offering a number of options for an active family. Even though families like ours enjoy a garden the courtyard play area (cricket, scooting, football) and the area at the front of the property (pétanque, bbq's, eating outside) met all our needs! Being able to use the bikes to cycle into the town was a really nice way to see the area. The town has fine boulangeries, an outdoor swimming pool (with a flume!) & kids play area. Fishing was superb. With a license you're able to course fish any of the rivers or lakes around the town (of which there are quite a few). The two lakes adjacent to the property has trout and carp. We caught a 34lb (15.5kg) & a 26lb (12kg) carp one early evening with the kids! The underground city of Naours was great for the kids & adults alike - caves, a kids (& adults!) adventure playground, mini-golf and woodland. Had a great weeks stay - would recommend!

"Very pleasant holiday"

We have just returned from 10 days at this lovely house on the outskirts of Aumale. We are a family of 4, our children are 10 and 7. We chose this property because of its proximity to Calais (less than 2 hours), the weather forecast (we booked last-minute), and the numerous activities for children. Booking was easy, and we were given lots of tips for days out in the area before we left.
On arrival, we were not disappointed. We were met by the owner, Bertram, who showed us round and answered any questions. We found the property clean and well presented, even with fresh flowers! There are bikes available, and Bertram adjusted them for us so they fitted the children's heights. We used the bikes several times; it was a straightforward 10 minute cycle ride to the town to get our croissants for breakfast.
The kitchen had everything we needed, including details I wouldn't normally expect such as new cleaning cloths, clingfilm, tin foil and carrier bags for bins.
The table tennis, pool table, keyboard, Playmobil, dolls and books were a huge hit with the children, and made the rainy days very easy.
Outside, there is an enclosed courtyard, in which we played a bit of football and basketball. This area was also perfect for the tennis racquets we took with us. The front of the house was a much nicer place to sit and relax though. We ate several meals out here, catching the evening sun. The neighbours have access to their house and they drove past a few times. We didn't feel our privacy was compromised though, as they just smiled and waved.
We visited the beaches at Dieppe and Cayeux-sur-Mer. They are both shingle, but fine if you have wet shoes or Crocs. We were at Dieppe when the tide was going out, which revealed lots of sand and shallow waters.
We spent a couple of afternoons at the local open-air pool, definitely to be recommended if you get the right weather. They have two pools of different depths, a slide, water jets, a large toddler pool and lifeguards. Be warned that men / boys must wear proper swimming trunks, which is apparently standard at French swimming pools. We easily found some in town at a reasonable price.
We also recommend visiting the underground city (caves) at Naours, and Artmazia at Massy.
Overall, we were more than happy with this accomodation, and found plenty of things to do in the area. Aumale is a pretty town with several bars and restaurants. We particularly enjoyed La Mamas and the Turkish kebab restaurant.

"A superb place to stay and fantastic for kids"

Great place with superb amenities. Bertram was fantastic and did us and our group of kids a lovely BBQ on arrival. Rooms were incredibly clean, tidy and very modern and fresh. We were a large group of golfers and the golf locally is very good. Kitchen facilities were excellent for large group. The local area is really lovely with some fantastic walks possible although being golfers we simply got up, ate then went straight to the golf course. The local town of aumale have absolutely everything you could possible need. Booking with UK english speaking agent was very easy and straight forward and every question we asked was answered very promptly. Communication between agent and bertram was second to none. Overall we had an amazing time male so much better because of the accommodation and i unconditionally endorse the accommodation. If you enjoy france in a rural area but close to a good size town this is the place for you.

"spacious and well situated for northern france holidays, ideal for multi generation family gatherings (in our case 3)"

Booking Ebenezer Mansions couldn't possibly have been any simpler thanks to Paul.
A personal greeting from Bertram on arrival at the house made us feel at home immediately.
We were pleasantly surprised by the spacious living area and the bedrooms, and very happy to find 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets so no queuing to delay our outings in the mornings.
The beds were comfortable, with 3 bedrooms on the ground floor, which made life easy for Grandparents and parents and three upstairs where the junior members of the family made themselves at home.
The kitchen provided almost everything you could need for a self-catering holiday. The nearby town of Aumale has shops, supermarkets and a market where you can stock your larder or shop daily. There are plenty of bars and restaurants for meals out.
Close by the house you will find easy access to routes which will take you to Caen and the Normandy landing beaches, Bayeux and it's Tapestry, Rouen capital of Normandy, Giverny, home of Claud Monet, with it's beautiful gardens and his studio, Paris,
Honfleur, on the Seine estuary opposite Le Havre beautiful town of tall narrow buildings surrounding the old harbour, full of restaurants, art galleries and ancient buildings in it's old town.
In the region closely surrounding Aumale you will find several places to visit including the underground city and museum at Naours, marked on maps as caves (grottes) and very well worth a visit.
We found this house was a really good find for a family holiday. very well presented and extremely good value. We never felt crowded together and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here,

"Fabulous property"

On our arrival we were met by Bertram, the owner, who showed us the property and guided us in the use of the appliances. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the necessary appliances for an easy and comfortable stay. We were invited to use any of the store cupboard ingredients that were there. Normally I don't like finding other people's packets and sauces but these were all fresh and with no sticky horrible bits on them!
I can honestly say that this was a place I felt instantly at home in (and we have been renting holiday properties in England, Wales and France for the past twenty plus years). The house is large and spacious and for our group comprising parents, our five children and a girlfriend, it suited us well.
We were in Aumale during the London Olympics so we spent time following the events on the television (English channels ... a bonus), generally relaxing away from the pressures of work/school/university, taking walks in the nearby countryside (one of my daughters enjoyed running every morning) and visiting Honfleur and Etretat. Although Honfleur and Etretat are not "on the doorstep", the ease of access to the motorways and the good roads make these two unique places a must. Aumale is quite an attractive small town but it is not a holiday destination for the Brits. It feels very French. I don't think I saw another UK number plate the whole time we were there. A Dutch woman spoke to me in the supermarket (Intermache ... large, well stocked, good salad vegetables and at least four different varieties of tomatoes as well as the ubiquitous cherry tomatoes) and said it was very unusual to hear an English accent.
There are plenty of closer places worth visiting as well as Honfleur and Etretat but we used this holiday as an opportunity to catch up with our older children in comfortable surroundings and visit a couple of very special places.
We enjoyed many long lasting meals at the large dining table, we played table tennis and basketball and, if our children had been younger, they would have been thrilled with the huge and impressively stocked playroom upstairs. The bedrooms were comfortable and airy and the bathrooms were large and fresh. The toilets had fierce and efficient flushes and the cistern refilled almost instantly (an absolute must for large family groups!), Everything was clean.
We loved the shutters on the windows and Bertram showed us how we could have the windows open and the shutters secure so we could keep cool.
A jolly good holiday and, for us, a property large enough to accommodate us comfortably. The only item I couldn't find was a garlic press but I may not have looked carefully enough!
