The atmosphere of calm and seclusion is enhanced by soft tones and colour schemes throughout.

Wall-mounted electric heaters throughout, and "Coloniale" wood-burning stove in Living-room for cooler nights

The Manoir sits in the centre of its own 30 acres of land, so has complete quiet and privacy. The lane peters out into a footpath, so there is no passing traffic, except for an occasional tractor, or Hiker ! Yet within 10 mins by car one has all the facilities of Navarrenx.

3 mins away is the excellent family-run Restaurant in Audaux village- considered by most locals as the best restaurant in the area and which also offers excellent value for money. There is another very good restaurant in the next village and several others in Navarrenx

The in-ground pool is available for La Grange 10am-6 p.m., guests staying in the manoir may use the pool early morning or in the evening, unless alternative times are agreed with the Owner.

For those who prefer Sea bathing to the swimming pool. the beaches of Biarritz, Hossegor and St Jean de Luz, are approx 60 mins away , either by motorway, or scenic country route.

The Bearn region

Thermal Spa Town of Salies de Bearn.

15 to 20 minutes by Car, this charming Town is renowned for its warm thermal Springs, 10 times naturally more salty than Sea Water. with beneficial properties for various conditions, including rheumatism. There is an indoor Pool, where visitors can bathe in the warm salt water, and enjoy the relaxing and soothing effects.

Sometimes called " The Venice of the Bearn", its elegant old Houses and Streets are interlaced with waterways.

Attractive Golf Course 9 holes plus separate Par 3 (9 holes)

Sauveterre de Bearn, and St Jean Pied de Port.

15 minutes by Car, the historic Town of Sauveterre, offers one of the most beautiful views, and panorama of the Pyrenees, from the ancient fortifications, best seen from the Church of St Andre dating from the 12th and 13th Centuries.

St Jean Pied de Port, 30 to 40 mins driving, near the Spanish border, is a "Must" visit if time allows. The Citadel bears testament to the strategic position this ancient town has always occupied, and the medieval streets and dwellings are redolent of the passage of pilgrims crossing into Spain to Santiago de Compostella over the Centuries, and to this day.

Historic City of Bayonne

Once a major Port, the name is celebrated by "Jambon de Bayonne", and by being the birth place of the "Bayonnet" weapon. The oldest part of the City is dominated by its magnificent Cathedral, reached on foot by a network of fascinating lanes and alley-ways. There are medieval Houses built into the walls of the old Ramparts, and an imposing iron-work covered Market-place by the River, surrounded by alluring Restaurants ( Fish a speciality ) and Cafes, and a famous Cake and Pastry shop.

For Art lovers, the Musee Bonnat, offers, surely, one of the most eclectic collections imagineable, assembled in the late 19th Century by the wealthy Leon Bonnat, himself a very successful Portrait Painter. Amongst many others, there are works by El Greco, Rubens, Van Dyck, Gericault, Ingres, and Degas.

The Surf Beaches of the Atlantic Coast, elegant Biarritz, and the pretty fishing Port of St Jean de Luz.

Biarritz ( 60 minutes by Car ) was celebrated as a smart sea-side resort long before the Cote d'Azur on the Mediterranean took over. Originally a simple whaling Village, it is now more famous for surf-boarding, and Thalasso-therapy. Here are to be found the Palace of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie, now a luxury Hotel, and the one-time Mansion of the English King Edward VII.

Just down the Coast, the pretty fishing Village of St Jean de Luz, beckons, with its un-spoilt and sheltered Beach. For those who fancy Sea Food, there is a plethora of good little Restaurants, many at modest prices.

King Louis IVth came here to marry his Spanish Infanta, in the Church since dedicated to Fisher-men and Sailors.

The majestic Boulevards of Pau.

Pau -- the capital of the region, with an international Airport, is 50 minutes drive away and should not be missed. At one time, the City pre-empted Nice by far, and boasted a large ( over 7,000 heads ) British Colony, originating from the time when many of the Duke Wellingtons Officers stayed behind after the Napoleonic Wars. They founded the World famous Golf Course, established Fox-Hunting, and the still existing Anglican Church. There are still some stately Villas bearing English names, - such as one: --- " Villa-no-name".

Some of the many attractions to visit are a good Art Museum, the Chateau of King Henri IV , much restored by Violet Leduc, the House in which was born Jean -Baptiste Bernadotte, the Son of a Cooper -- later one of Napoleons Marshals, who became King of Sweden, ---- and the regal "Boulevard des Pyrenees" from which there is a magnificent panorama of the Pyrenees on a clear day.

Spectacular natural Scenery of the Pyrenees, and the National Park.

These can all be enjoyed by Car, Bicycle ( available for Hire in Navarrenx ) or Foot.

Superb Hill walking, or gentle traffic-free driving.

A pretty drive of about 40 minutes will take one to Lourdes, and the Grotto and Shrine. One of the most important Centres of pilgrimage in the Roman Catholic Church

NAVARRENX - Our local town less than 10 mins drive away with a Medical Centre / Doctors, Dentist, Vet, Osteopaths, 2 Chemists, 2 Butchers / Traiteurs, 3 Supermarkets, 2 Boulangers, Bank, Internet Cafe and Cybernet Centre. An excellent Market on Wednesdays and Sundays, an Hotel and 3 Restaurants.

Navarrrenx is a walled ( 1537 ) and fortified Town, whose Ramparts, Church & Bell Tower, and the imposing St Anthony's Gate are all classified as " Monuments Historiques". It is rich in History, and was the first "Cite Bastionnee" in France ---- a century before the more famous Vauban. There was a "Military Fountain" which could supply the needs of all the Inhabitants, both civil and military, during times of siege that one can still visit today.

On the banks of the river, Gave d'Oloron, which added to its impregnability in past times, today it offers an excellent site for WHITE WATER RAFTING

This is still an important stop for Pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostella in northern Spain.

Interesting guided Tours at 10 a.m., every Friday from July to September.

Local TENNIS Courts can be booked.
