The North Island region
The North Island is surrounded by beautiful beaches on both coast lines. Scenery varies from white, sandy beaches in the North, to black sand beaches on the West Coast, through the Central Plateau with its ski fields and mountain-fed, fresh water lakes.
Climate is temperate. Summer stretches from December through to March. Winter ski season is July to October.
Auckland is New Zealand's most populous city and enjoys a multi-cultural society. Pasifika is the major festival and celebration of Pacific culture, held annually in early March. Auckland is also known as the "City of Sails" and visitors can enjoy sailing or fishing in the sparkling waters of the Waitemata Harbour. A short ferry ride to nearby Waiheke Island is a must for wine tasting. Auckland is built on a system of extinct volcanoes. There are many volcanic cones to climb to gain some outstanding views of the city, the Hauraki Gulf and its islands. There are well maintained parks and beaches all around the city.
Apart from getting into the great outdoors, Aucklanders love to eat, drink and shop and there is no shortage of bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques in the areas of Grey Lynn, Ponsonby, the CBD, Newmarket, Parnell.
There is the fantastic Zoo (2km from the property) which focuses on conservation of species, including the native kiwi and tuatara - a living dinosaur. The big exotic animals roam in large natural enclosures.
The Auckland Art Gallery in the CBD has just re-opened (2011) following a major restoration and building project.
The Auckland War Memorial Museum (5km from the property) has great interactive displays for children as well as a world class collection, which includes Maori artefacts, buildings and canoes.

This house was very beautiful and looked better than described. The owners were very helpful in supplying a cot and highchair. The pool was a lovely temperature too.

"Fantastic, well-appointed house - great for a family get-together"
What a lovely property! Great location, fantastic pool, user-friendly outdoor area. Uncluttered, clean and stylish - the photos say it all! We are all still raving about what a great stay we had, and would certainly recommend it for an extended family get-together. Thank you so much for your flexibility, thorough instructions and extra touches like toys and books.

A magnificent house with a lovely garden and pool area. Everything was in perfect condition and we had a great time with close to everything in Auckland and plenty of room to stretch out once at the house. Thanks again for letting us stay in your beautiful place!
