About the home

Horse Mill Cottage is a warm and most comfortably furnished cottage, with thick stone walls and feature windows. It is a lovely quiet place for family and friends to enjoy a relaxing holiday and explore the local area.

The cottage has its own private secure garden with patio seating area overlooking the adjacent farmland and woodland. There is wooden patio furniture for relaxing and your own BBQ for leisurely dining.

There are wonderful on site facilities of a swimming pool, hot tub, games room & gym.

Horse Mill Cottage is a lovely spacious cottage, ideal for families and friends. It is tastefully decorated and well equipped with many homely touches. The sitting room has comfy leather sofas, oak flooring and an open fire. The main bedroom has a king size bed & en suite. The kitchen/dining room is spacious & very well equipped.

Guests have full use of all leisure facilities (heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub, games room & gym. Open 9 am - 9 pm every day). They are very private, being shared with the other cottage on site (The Old Cart House).

Further details outdoors:
The garden is mainly laid to grass, with a good sized patio seating area. There is a a wooden table & chairs, sun parasol and charcoal BBQ. Peaceful and scenic.

Many species of birds/wildlife visit the garden and surrounding area, including woodpeckers, red squirrels and wild deer. Owls live in the nearby forest.

There is ample parking adjacent to the property for 2 cars.

Pets : 1 well behaved dog is welcome but should not be allowed upstairs or on furniture (extra charge).

For the comfort and safety of guests this is a no smoking property.

Arrival Time is normally 4 pm onwards on day of arrival. Departure is by 10 am on departure day.

A 25% deposit is required to secure a booking. Balance payable 8 weeks prior to the arrival date.

The Fife region

Horse Mill Cottage and The Old Cart House are a wonderful base to explore Fife and the surrounding areas. There is so much to see and do for all the family. There are the gorgeous beaches at St. Andrews and Tentsmuir (30 mins), the quaint east neuk fishing villages to explore (45 mins), the famous Anstruther fish & chip shop, Firth of Forth boat trips to visit the birdlife, whisky distilleries, golf at St. Andrews (30 mins) & Gleneagles (45 mins) and the RSPB reserve at Loch Leven (20 mins). Falkland Palace (10 mins) and Scone Palace (25 mins)

The fair cities of Perth (25 mins) and Edinburgh (50 mins) are delightful for a day out.

The Auchtermuchty area

The village of Auchtermuchty (5 mins) has local shops, a post office, a chemist, 2 local pubs, a fish & chip shop, doctor's surgery, 2 hairdressers, a petrol station & garage, a church and the famous Tannochbrae Tearoom. It has been home to The Proclaimers and Jimmy Shand.

A short drive away is the Birnie Loch Nature Reserve (10 mins), Scottish Deer Centre (15 mins), Fife Small Animal Park (10 mins), Abernethy Round Tower (15 mins) and Glentarkie 4 x 4 Centre (10 mins). The local Reediehill Deer Farm is within walking distance and sells delicious venison products in their farm shop.

“A little piece of luxury in an idyllic spot” The cottage is located about 1.5 miles from the small village of Auchtermuchty and is accessed via a slightly bumpy road. Follow the owners guidelines about how to get there-not the Sat Nav as it took me on a even more bumpy road. This slightly out of the way location only adds to the whole experience of feeling like you're in the middle of no where, when you're only 15 mins from the M90. The cottage itself is stunning-really clean and luxurious. No phone signal at the cottage, but there is WiFi and a landline. Our phones worked fine down in the village so you could always drive down if desperate. Beds comfy and all amenities that you would require are provided. The indoor pool is great as is the hot tub, but even more fun was had in the games room with an exciting cupboard of board games, as well as a pool table and table tennis. Loved seeing my 85yr old dad (who popped over to visit) play table tennis with my 15yr old son.

“Best equipped cottage we have stayed in.” The degree of cleanliness and amount of equipment in the cottage was amazing. The swimming pool, beautifully maintained, was a great asset. The location is ideal for exploring the county of Fife.
