La Petite Ferme, Longeveau
About the home
This refurbished farm house offers guests amazing comfort and tranquility. La Petite Ferme is one of a small cluster of cottages in L'Hammeau, just a couple minutes stroll from Longeveau.
The cottage is entered from the front courtyard. Double doors lead into a bright kitchen, dining and living space, with TV / DVD player (English free-view channels) and a stereo. The kitchen is fully equipped with fan assisted oven, gas hob, dishwasher, washing machine and all of the utensils you will need for your stay. Set to the side is a double bedroom and a bright and spacious bathroom. Upstairs is another double bedroom with en-suite, and an adjoining single bedroom - ideal for babies or young children. The other upstairs bedroom has twin beds and an en-suite.
The property is finished to a high standard, achieving a pleasant balance of modern comfort, mixed with original features such as the old stone fireplace and many of the original oak beams.
The private courtyard, with a raised pergola is partially shaded by a beautiful Yew Tree. But mostly it is drenched in sunlight from morning through to evening. It has a BBQ, outside dining and plenty of sun-loungers.
Guests of the Petite Ferme also benefit from access to the new swimming pool, shared with the other few cottages at L'Hammeau. The pool has a specially enclosed section for our youngest visitors, plus of course the other pools and facilities at Longeveau are only a short stroll away.
Please note that we have eight different but equally charming three-bedroomed cottages on site, as well as a choice of smaller or larger properties.
Longeveau itself adjoins a small hamlet in a beautiful valley designated by the Michelin Guide as 'A Place of Special Beauty'. As well as a superb range of facilities, we offer the opportunity for families or groups to socialise with others. Or simply appreciate the peace and quite of your own company! Above all, we offer you the opportunity to relax, refresh and enjoy...

Enquire nowThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The region is known for it's great climate with sun drenched summers, rolling green hills and valleys as far as you can see, plus all the history you could ever need. The food and drink is superb and the people are welcoming. The area is a paradise for wine lovers who may wish to visit the numerous chateaux and wine caves on the Bordeaux wine trail.
The Aubeterre/Verteillac / Saint Severin area
Longeveau is located on the Charente / Dordogne border in a beautiful valley in rural South West France. Nearby villages are full of activity, with places to visit, dine and drink. The picturesque old Roman town of Aubeterre, which was recently voted one of the prettiest villages in France, is only a bike ride away. Discover the 12th century subterranean church carved out of the rock or enjoy a drink on the village square with it's variety of shops, eateries and museums, all overlooked by a 1,000 year old chateau. Alternatively walk down to the river beach for a swim, relax or a bite to eat.
The market town of Riberac (20 mins) has one of the biggest markets in France! The capital towns of Angouleme and Perigueux (45 mins) offer a wider and more sophisticated range of shops in a typically French setting. Brantome, nicknamed the 'Venice of Perigord' is well worth a visit at a similar distance. Also within easy reach are towns such as St. Emilion, Bergerac, Cognac and Bordeaux, all famous for their wines and spirits and equally beautiful places to visit.
Local activities range from walking, sight seeing, tree climbing, canoeing, cycling, fishing, or even jet–skiing and quad biking to name but a few. Wine tasting and degustation are of course a staple part of the French experience! There are a variety of local festivals, fetes and firework displays that take place throughout the summer in the local villages and towns. These are aimed at all ages and generally take place between the months of June and September.
Children will find plenty to occupy themselves and their families with activities ranging from crazy golf, horse riding and tree top adventure's to daytrip's to the popular attractions of Aqualand Water Park, La Palmyre Zoo and Futuroscope. Longeveau is fortunate to have a number of very good restaurants in the area, ranging from cafés to fine dining. As with everything, our staff will be happy to recommend or help you with decisions.

We have been to Longeveau 3 times (4th one in the pipeline for this year). It has such a relaxing, friendly atmosphere for the whole family that we would be crazy not to come back for more ! We were firstly drawn to Longeveau for it's child-friendly facilities. Creche, all the equipment you wanted, babysitters etc ... very important they have it so you don't have to bring it ! The other thing about Longeveau is all the sporty stuff they do. The tennis and golf is briliant fun and they have fun tournaments (even for absolute beginners like myself) to get everyone involved. However there is no pressure to join in. You can just enjoy a lovely glass of rose while watching everyone else get sweaty in the evening sun ! The kids can also get involved and are usually running around the tennis courts at sunset making up games of their own. The staff are always attentive, kind and very helpful and really do go out of their way to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. When we had the scorching weather last year (40 degrees and not complaining either !), it was not a trouble for them to get extra fans for the rooms - and which they obliged promptly, or when the cooker timer did something silly, without a question out came an electrician to sort it out. Le Petite Ferme was a very pleasant surprise. We were spoilt for choice as far as bedrooms were concerned and all nicely decorated. The kitchen/living room area was very well done and open plan. All was tidy, clean and very comfortable. It was also light and airy. In the hot weather we definitely took advantage of the heavy shutters to keep the sun out and the cool air in. The outside space of Le Petite Ferme was predominantly laid to rock. We weren't so keen on this as it was a waste of outside space and not much use for children, however it is also a real sun trap so if they had put lawn down it would be extremely difficult to maintain (our conclusion was that it was fine - we were barely in the house anyway as there is just so much to do around). We spent our evenings mostly outside on the terrace watching the stars and the bats and having lazy BBQs. If we weren't entertaining ourselves, we ate either at the Longeveau restaurant which was simple but delicious with different themed meals most nights. The BBQ and salad night is knock-out so book early ! The prices were very very reasonable. If we went out without the children, we would book through the creche so that we could take advantage of dining at one of the restaurants in Aubeterre Sur Drone or other local villages. The kids had an amazing time when they weren't being entertained by Lorraine at the Creche. The main pool does get busy and it would be useful if the other swimming pool available to Le Petite Ferme was heated as our two (3 and 4 years old) found it very very cold, even when the weather was extremely hot, and couldn't actually spend more than 10 mins in the pool without shivering and wanting to come out. That aside, the pools were clean and centrally located and also had good safety latches to keep the kids in/out. There are so many things to do in and around Longeveau that you will HAVE to come back again ! The lake at La Jemai, trout fishing, kayaking, hacking around the countryside on horseback, cycling, visiting monolithic ruins, vineyard tours, French markets ... the list is endless. You will never get bored. Convenient enough to drive in a day (we do) or flying to Bordeaux and then a 2 hour car journey is easy enough. Only downside is that the region is full of people who speak excellent English and are only too happy to practice their English on an English person. The bar staff are more than happy to speak in either language so you can practice away ! |

I recently stayed at Petite Ferme within Manoir de Longeveau. It's an old farm house conversion keeping original features, but bringing in all the mod cons. The scenery surrounding is fantastic... more |
