Le Pigeonnier, Longeveau
About the home
The Pigeonnier tower is one of our most treasured features at Longeveau. The old Dovecote, in the rear gardens of the Manoir, has been thoughtfully converted into a light and airy cottage. It features many of the beams and stonework from the original building and enjoys great views of the golf course and open countryside.
The property comprises of an open plan kitchen, dining and living area that opens out to a terrace and shared garden to the rear. This benefits from the afternoon and evening sun, while the terrace at the front soaks up the morning sun. The double bedroom, twin bedroom and the shower room / w.c are set off to the side, located one above the other in the old tower.
Le Pigeonnier comes equipped with all of your tableware and kitchen requirements and laundry facilities are provided close by. Extra equipment is often available on request, particularly for babies and children. The garden is furnished with sun loungers, outside dining and a BBQ, perfect for the long summer days!.
Please note that we have seven different but equally charming two-bedroomed cottages on site, as well as a choice of smaller or larger properties.
Longeveau itself adjoins a small hamlet in a beautiful valley designated by the Michelin Guide as 'A Place of Special Beauty'. As well as a superb range of facilities, we offer the opportunity for families or groups to socialise with others. Or simply appreciate the peace and quite of your own company! Above all, we offer you the opportunity to relax, refresh and enjoy...

Enquire nowThe Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region
The region is known for it's great climate with sun drenched summers, rolling green hills and valleys as far as you can see, plus all the history you could ever need. The food and drink is superb and the people are welcoming. The area is a paradise for wine lovers who may wish to visit the numerous chateaux and wine caves on the Bordeaux wine trail.
The Aubeterre sur Dronne / Pillac area
Longeveau is located on the Charente / Dordogne border in a beautiful valley in rural South West France. Nearby villages are full of activity, with places to visit, dine and drink. The picturesque old Roman town of Aubeterre, which was recently voted one of the prettiest villages in France, is only a bike ride away. Discover the 12th century subterranean church carved out of the rock or enjoy a drink on the village square with it's variety of shops, eateries and museums, all overlooked by a 1,000 year old chateau. Alternatively walk down to the river beach for a swim, relax or a bite to eat.
The market town of Riberac (20 mins) has one of the biggest markets in France! The capital towns of Angouleme and Perigueux (45 mins) offer a wider and more sophisticated range of shops in a typically French setting. Brantome, nicknamed the 'Venice of Perigord' is well worth a visit at a similar distance. Also within easy reach are towns such as St. Emilion, Bergerac, Cognac and Bordeaux, all famous for their wines and spirits and equally beautiful places to visit.
Local activities range from walking, sight seeing, tree climbing, canoeing, cycling, fishing, or even jet–skiing and quad biking to name but a few. Wine tasting and degustation are of course a staple part of the French experience! There are a variety of local festivals, fetes and firework displays that take place throughout the summer in the local villages and towns. These are aimed at all ages and generally take place between the months of June and September.
Children will find plenty to occupy themselves and their families with activities ranging from crazy golf, horse riding and tree top adventure's to daytrip's to the popular attractions of Aqualand Water Park, La Palmyre Zoo and Futuroscope. Longeveau is fortunate to have a number of very good restaurants in the area, ranging from cafés to fine dining. As with everything, our staff will be happy to recommend or help you with decisions.

Our holiday at le Manoir de longeveau was the first truly relaxing holiday we have taken since becoming parents. It was a very special family holiday. Our children loved the pools, tennis courts etc but most importantly had the freedom to roam with all the little pals they made. Our evenings were spent enjoying the company of our children but also other like minded parents/ adults enjoying a meal in the restaurant, or just a drink, with the pleasure of being able to watch our children as they played safely. Le Manoir offers the benefits of being able to opt into the more social aspects of a resort type holiday whilst completely allowing for your desire to have private family time. It was a very easy balance to strike. In addition the local area offers some lovely beaches, restaurants etc. to go to for days and nights away from Le Manoir, Aubeterre was a particular favourite. As a family we stayed in le Pigeonnier which was more than suitable for our needs. A particular strength of this property is that it sits toward the rear of the estate,( slightly away from the pools) looking out over the golf course and surrounding fields, whilst being a few short steps from the club house. Many pleasant afternoons and evenings were spent on the back terrace enjoying the privacy of the back lawns. It is my understanding that the kitchen, which meant our needs perfectly amply, was to be upgraded in the off season. Stair gates were available for this property and would be required as the stairs were quite steep for young children. A very minor suggestion would be that the restaurant rotated its menu on a more regular basis. The food was lovely and if you want to eat there on a regular basis a few more choices would be a plus. For our 2013 holiday we will be relying heavily on Le Manoir to provide us with as much 'baby bumph' as possible and I am really pleased to see that they will be offering welcome packs. As proof of the pudding we are returning as a family for three weeks this summer and have three groups of family friends signed up for this summer season with more to follow. Many thanks to Richards, Olivia and all the staff for a perfect family holiday . |
