This charming 200 year old, newly renovated Charenteise farmhouse and large attached barn has 6 bedrooms, set in extensive grounds in a quiet location, with no immediate neighbours. Upstairs you will find 3 double bedrooms all en-suite, 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedded room share the large family bathroom., with its double marble sinks, this has a bath with over shower. These 5 bedrooms are fitted with remote control air conditioning units, for those warm summer evenings. and electric central heating for the cooler months. All the en suite shower rooms and the bathroom are fully tiled, all have hairdryers, and heated towel rails, and we only use top quality bedding and towels for all our rooms. On the ground floor is the large kitchen/diner, very well equipped with Dishwasher, Double Range Style Cooker, Fridge Freezer, Microwave, etc. electric heaters and a wood burning fire. The TV Lounge leads off the hallway and is comfortably furnished, with plenty of seating, open fire, and electric heating, with 100s of DVD's / Video's / CD's / Books plus loads of Games for all ages. Both rooms have Satellite TV's, DVD and Video players, and stereo's. Downstairs is the cloakroom and utility room with washing machine/iron etc. Attached to the kitchen is the large barn where coloured spot lights shine up into the beams, and LED's light up the staircase, upto the mezzaine, which has wonderful countryside views, there is keep fit quipment, playstation 1 with games, board and card games, puzzles and books for everyone. The 6th en-suite bedroom with 6ft. kingsize bed, is totally separate, at the end of the barn, with easy access for those who cannot manage too many steps. Outside the lovely 10m x 6m heated pool with roman ends, has a large pool patio with shower, and has sunloungers, umbrellas, recliner chairs and tables for 12, and is surrounded by safety fencing. Adjoining the pool area is the covered summer kitchen, with fridge/sink/worktop/BBQ with teak table and chairs for 12, overlooking panoramic views of sunflowers, maize and grape vines. Wonderful wildlife and other interesting flora and fauna are abound in the vicinity, watch for the rare hoopee bird, kestrels, kites soar high on the thermals , unusal butterflies, red squirrels, and deer, binoculars provided, early risers may see deer in our garden. Two more patio areas with tables/chairs/umbrellas are in front of the house for casual alfresco dining. the exterior of the house and the well light up at night, creating a wonderful ambience.
Yviers is a village only 5km from the old market town of Chalais, with its Chateau, Cloisters and Church, Large Monday Market, Good Supermaket,, Bank, Chemists, Doctors, Butchers, Newsagents and Post Office. and a good varied selection of Shops, Several Boulangeries, Petrol Station etc. Close to Brossac, Aubeterre and the Dordogne border, surrounded by wonderful countryside with lakes for fishing and swimming, ideal for walking and cycling. We are Ideally situated for all the activites and sight seeing in the Charente/ Dordogne region.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region
Within a 20 minutes drive from Chez Gody you can find tennis courts, golf courses, two 9- hole courses locally and three 18- hole courses at Angouleme, Cognac and Libourne. , horse riding, walking, biking, you can swim at one of the many beachside lakes, many have bars, restaurants, beach volley, and children's playground activities, both river and lakeside canoeing, many markets, fishing, shopping, dining out, wine tasting. Visiting the many chateau's, and the local Chateau in Chalais has midnight tours every Wednesday, the town also has a well known horse event every August, and all surrounded by Beautiful Countryside, and with lovely quiet roads.
For the more adventurous there are Theme Parks, Water Parks with massive slides, The biggest Sand Dune in Europe to climb, Chateau's galore to visit, Tree Skywalking, Swimming in the sea with golden sandy beaches the list is endless, all within driving distance
Aubeterre sur Dronne area
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne one of the most famous villages in France, has a 12th century Eglis Monolithe church dug out of rock under the castle. Quaint shops and several restaurants around the village square., music is played some evenings here. Down by the River Dronne you have picnic tables, volley ball, man made beach/swimming, and canoeing/kayaking great fun, paddle down stream its so relaxing. There is also a puppet theatre for the children to enjoy. Brantomme the Venice of France, with its Abbey, boat rides, caves, shops, restaurants. Bourdeilles next to Brantomme another medieval castle., see for miles from the top of the tower Cognac has guided tours of the distilleries, as well as the town to visit.. Royan, St Palais, and Arcachon all have lovely sandy beaches. Local Brossac lake with beach, snack bars, sailing dinghies/pedaloes. Paradou a 20 miniutes drive, has a picnic area, swimming with large flume, children's play area. Also St Aulay 20 mintues drive, another river beach location, similar but smaller to the one above. St Emilion the famous wine tasting area, with mile upon mile of vines, travel around on a small train to sample the wine. Markets..Mornings only..Chalais Mondays, Montpon Wednesdays. Riberac Fridays. Coutras and Barbezieuz. Visit the lovely old towns of Periguex, (The Walnut Capital) Sarlat, Bordeaux, Bergerac. The famous Lascaux Caves close to Sarlat are worth a visit.. Chalais's chateau has a great restaurant but you must book, it gets very busy. Try the The Flamingo, a mexican restaurant in Parcoul, kids love it.. Many hotel restaurants are signposted all over the place, If golf is you pleasure there are 2 locally and 3 more within a 45 minute drive. Wether you want to relax by the pool, visit local places of interest, or take part in the local sports, this is paradise for those seeking cultural or outdoor activities, or if you choose to just enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, there is something for everyone here.
How to get there
British Airways. Flybe. Ryan Air. Easy Jet. Air France. BMI Baby All fly to Bordeaux , Bergerac , and La Rochelle from many UK airports, these are the 3 airports nearest to Chez Gody, Limoges is a bit further away. (Stanstead to Angouleme should be opening summer 2008, this would be the closest when it happens).
Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries sail to St. Malo and Caen from 4 different ports, P & O Ferries, Sea France and Hoverspeed all sail to Calais from Dover, a longer drive but as the roads are so nice, many people like this route.
The TGV Train runs from Paris and stops at Angouleme, and takes 2hrs 15mins. Chalais has its own station, but only a few trains stop here each day.

Further details indoors: Chez Gody is furnished with high quality french antique furniture, and has all its exposed orginal oak beams, throughout the property, Good quailty bed linen and towels are provided, but NOT pool towels. All bedrooms in the house have roof veloux windows with heat resistant and black out blinds fitted., or you may wish to lay and watch the stars twinkling above you, very romantic. All bedrooms have cut glass chandliers. and the air conditioning fitted is remote controlled. The Indonesion bedroom has a full bed canopy, over the double sleigh bed and is en-suite. . The French Bedroom has a beautiful blue silk double bed., and is next to the bathroom. The large Master bedroom has a double bed and is en-suite, with a double hydro shower, it also has a day bed you could use for a young child, should you wish them to be in your room. Bedroom 3 has large size twin oak beds, and Bedroom 2 has a walnut double bed and is en-suite. Every bathroom has its own hairdryer and heated towel rails, and there are double marble sinks in the family bathroom, and barn bathroom, 3 of the en-suites have Hydro massage showers.The kitchen has a A Slow Cooker., Pressure Cooker, and Plenty of cooking equipment, China, Glasses, and dishes for any type of meal you may wish to cook. the Barn Bedroom is very quiet and private, with its hugh 6ft sleigh bed and lovely antigue dressing table, it has a large window/door, so you can sit up in bed and view the garden, through the floating voile curtains, and you can walk into the garden through this window, it has a walk in wardrobe and is en-suite. All the rooms are heated by electric heaters. The ground floor of the house, and barn are always bright, light and sunny, with the sunlight streaming through the large windows, watch the sun rise while eating breakfast, beautiful, so relaxing, With its thick built walls, the property always remains cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.
Further details outdoors: The property has over a hectare of garden, mostly to rough grass, several huge trees, provide dappled shade in the hot summer sun , there is an orchard where you are welcome to pick the fruit when it is ripe, plus chestnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts and figs all grow in the garden. As well as the many indoor games, we also have a selection of garden games you can enjoy, along with a badmington net. Any early risers may see a deer in the garden, but everyone will see the many buzzards, kestrels and eagles that soar in the sky. The heated 10m x 6m pool is at it's most spectacular, when illuminated on warm evenings, for those magical nightime swims. Plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas, chairs, and tables for your drinks all surround the pool patio, and a pool shower, to cool you off, everything you need. Alfresco dining can be in the summer kitchen next to the pool, which also has lighting, electric socket, sink, worktop and a fridge to keep those drinks cool, and large area by the BBQ, or you can dine up by the house on the patio areas, all with adequate table and chairs.

We supply 9 bicycles of various sizes, ranging from 5/6years up to adult, all with safety cycle helmets, bike locks, some pumps / repair kits, and some rucksaks to carry picnics or drinks in, There are several cycle routes signposted close to the property, and with the quiet country roads, it is safe for the younger members of the family to join in as well. There is a full size table tennis table in the barn, fun for all ages, and for the keep fit enthusiasts, we have several pieces of gym equipment on the mezzaine, to help you stay in shape, so you can keep fit and look out over the countryside. Also on the mezzaine there is a Playstation One with games, so the teenagers do not get withdrawl systems, and Plenty of jigsaws, books and games for those who just want peace and quiet.
THE POOL. WE DO NOT SUPPLY TOWELS FOR THE POOL AREA, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN.
The Pool is Open May to October, which can be heated if requested, at a cost of £70 per week..
WINTER LETS. There is a Supplement Charge of £70 per week for Central Heating and Logs for January to April, and October to December.

Conditions
No smoking inside anywhere, but ashtrays are provided for outside areas.
A non refundable deposit of 25% of the rental, is required to secure the booking, with the signed booking form.
A refundable security deposit of £350 is required with the booking balance 8 weeks before the travel date.
The property is cleaned before your visit, with the beds made up ready for your arrival, this is included in the rental cost, but if you require extra cleaning during your stay, this can be arranged, if requested in advance. 20e per hour, you can also have the bed linen and/or towels washed and changed during your stay, at a cost, which can also be arranged. All these costs are paid for at the house. Just ask about details.

NB: Prices may be subject to change at the owner's discretion. During the Winter months the barn lounge and mezzaine will not be able to be used during this period, as it has no heating, (you can use the barn bedroom if you wish, that does have heating,)
There will be a heating supplement of £70 a week for central heating and logs, and £70 a week for the pool heating.
A £350 refundable security deposit is required with the balance 8 weeks prior to the travel date, which will be refunded within 2 weeks of your leaving date.
