Guest house | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Welcome to Alta Creu, our eco friendly wooden house is set in the rolling hills of the Costa Azahar. The name Alta Creu refers to the cross that was placed on the top of one of the hills that overlooks our house, only the pillar remains now but a walk to the top is well worth it for the spectacular views.
We rely mainly on the sun and wind for our power and hot water, although we do have a back up generator and gas water heating for the odd rainy day, so don't worry about having to sit in the dark or go without hot water.
The area is ideal for walking or for those who just want to chill out. There are numerous villages dotted around where you can sample the delights of the local cuisine washed down with wine from the local bodegas, and you are only a 30-40 minute drive from wonderful sandy beaches.
The house is purpose built with the guest accomodation being seperate from the owners living area and occupying the entire ground floor. The guest area is simply but comfortably furnished with two en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen/dining room, seperate lounge and outside seating area.

The Valenciana region
This area is largely undiscovered by most people except the Spanish, The area is well known for its regional dishes and wines and has a month long gastronomic festival every year around May/June. The countryside is largely undeveloped with vast areas of of rocky slopes, some with pine forests on them others with low lying bush. the whole region is crossed by walking routes and tracks ranging from circular local walks to long distance GR routes
Atzeneta del Maestrat
If walking is your passion there is an endless choice from easy to really hard, short or long, countryside or coastal the choice is yours. We are situated on the Camino Del Cid, the route El Cid took on his way to drive the Moors from Spain. The local government has started to put up signposts and information boards, usually on the outskirts of villages, to help people find their way around.
We now have 9 new signposted walks around the local area, and more coming very soon. Visit www.atzenetadelmaestrat.es follow the link marked rutes. We are working on an english translation at the moment.
We are now able to offer trips around the local Baron D'Alba winery and vineyard. This is a very interesting trip and the award winning wines are a treat for any wine lover. Follow the link for more information.
This year Michelin have awarded Restaurant Cal Paradis in the nearby village of Vall d'Alba its first star, so if you like fine dining this would be one of the places to try. Follow the link for more information.
The village of Atzeneta offers bars, restaurants, shops and banks with ATMs.
The bars and restaurants in Atzeneta offer a friendly welcome to visitors and prices are very favourable compared to the UK and northern Europe. A 3 course week day lunch from the menu del dia with wine and coffee is normally about €9 per person, a little more in the evenings or on fiestas and weekends.
There are the following bars/restaurants in Atzeneta, they are listed as you go through the village and in no order of preference, we leave you to choose.
CASA RAMON. A large bar/restaurant as you enter the village from Castellon. Tapas, menu del dia and a la carte menu, local produce and wines served. Gets busy some weekends and fiestas.
FONDA GILBERT. Bar/restaurant. A typical Spanish bar with a nice shaded outside seating area and a small cosy dining room at the rear.
ALMENDROS. Bar with good selection of tapas and shaded pavement seating area. Nacho the owner speaks English and has a good sense of humour, he also has quite a bit of knowledge about the local wines which he will share with you if asked.
Tasca. Bar with selection of tapas and outside seating with sun umbrellas.
BAR ELIAS. Typical Spanish bar, sit outside on a summer evening and watch the small bats from the church bell tower zooming around.
BAR SOL.Bar with selection of tapas, the homemade burgers are well worth trying. There is a shaded outside seating in small area behind the village church.
ROURES.Bar/restaurant. Newly decorated and updated serving local specialties as well as menu del dia and tapas Shaded outside seating area.
