The Attica region

The history of Attica peninsula where Athens is located, is lost in the the deep of time. It is the land of glorious men whose names are known all over the earth. It is the land of the great philosofers whose words and scripts gave shape to the modern way of thinking. It is the mother of the arts of music, of theater, of tragedy and comedy. It is the great school of architecture and sculpture.
And finaly it is the main sourse of all aspects of sience including medicin, mathematics, physics, astronomy etc.
The world should have memory.
The Athens area
What can I say about the ancient monuments & sights of Athens and Attica. You can smell the history of the area in the air.
But Athens is not only Past. It has also a modern vibrant face with many kinds of activities and chances for intertainment. The visitor can do and find whatever he wishes. The only thing he needs is time and good will.

I was in Athens for a 3 day business trip. It seemed to be a good idea to spend 2 more days in this wonderful city for sightseeing. I contacted Nikos, whose apartment in fokionos negri street was available for two days and he was more than helpful making the whole procedure easy for me. The condo was superb and had everything. Clean, nicely decorated, fully equipped kitchen, inviting bedrooms and living room, perfect home cinema with a huge TV, nice view to the pedestrian street below from the front balcony, fast internet connection. There were plenty different restaurants and taverns only a few steps away from the apartment, which was confusing as I couldn't decide which one to choose for dinner. Thankfully, Nikos had all the answers. Tip: donʼt miss the chance to taste the local souvlaki for 1.5 euro. Just at the corner, there were convenient bus stops with coaches heading to the center and to the Acropolis. Very cheap taxis easy to find. Safe area. People more than friendly always available to help find your way. I strongly recommend this accommodation and I would definitely choose to stay there again next time I will be in Athens. Thank you Nikos for your hospitality, Alex from Guilford, Surrey, UK. |

Brilliant Birthday in amazing Athens
Nikos was a charming and attentive host. He helped us to find our feet - took us on a drive of the local area and recommended a local restaurant which we loved so much we returned for our daughter's brithday dinner. Nikos made this even more special by bringing her a fantastic cake and leaving wine for us parents in the apartment!
From the airport pick-up, to the welcome basket of food, to Nikos taking my husband for a drive in our hire car, so he could work out how to get to the mortorway, Nikos went far beyond our expectations.
It was so relaxing to come back to the cosy apartment and crash our after a day of sightseeing. Our kids loved the x-box, I appreciated the washing machine and my husband, sadly, made good use of the WiFI to get some work done.
All in all the most fabulous apartment and a lovely area to stay in. We felt very safe walking around the area at night, buying from the local shops, getting take-outs from nearby square and walking off dinner up the San Fransico-style streets near the apartment. It was too chilly to spend evenings up on the terrace but the views were stunning and we enjoyed looking over the city before setting off fo a day of adventures.
Thank you Nikos. We hope to be back some day and meanwhile we are recommending your place to our friends.

Gracias Nikos.

We are two couples who have spent a week in this apartment and the choice was perfect. The apartment is as shown in the photos and has everything you need. Highly recommended. The neighborhood is very quiet, close you can find supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants. From the square Kipselis we took the taxi to move to the areas we wanted to go every day, since being four was more convenient and economical to use a taxi than bus or subway, as we were recommended by Nikos. The terrace is perfect and although we could not take much, given that we came home late, if you take the opportunity to celebrate the New Year bell and see from there the fireworks were launched from across the city. As Nikos said, the view is unbeatable. From the first moment he was attentive to everything we asked via email before going to Athens. Once in Athens he gave us all the information we needed, always being available for any problems that may arise. Nikos is a great person. We recommend this apartment if you go to Athens, will not be disappointed. Thanks Nikos.

Nikos went above and beyond to help us find transportation when the taxis and buses were on strike. The welcome basket was perfect! Nikos' mom was delightful (even without speaking English), I felt like they were both old friends by the time we left. (Nicky USA).

This is a really nice flat in a good location - the immediate area is virtually traffic free, and it feels like a real neighbourhood. The flat itself is pristine, has everything you need, plus a small garden and an outstanding roof terrace with amazing views - great place for a sundowner after an energetic day sightseeing! At the bottom of the hill is the local square (shops, cafes and taxi rank), off which runs Fokinos Negri, a lovely park like pedestrian route (about 1km long) that takes you directly to one of the main roads of the city. At the top end (nearest to the flat) are lots of small, friendly restaurants and coffee shops, serving really good food very inexpensively. We were there for a week and walked absolutely everywhere in the city, only time we used the metro was to Piraeus, but the flat is up a steep hill (hence the amazing views) . Nikos went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable, thank you Nikos!

FROM THE GUEST: Britta J.
No friend could have been more helpful and hospitable - thanks for everything, efcharisto, Nikos!
Come to Athens, come and stay here! Neat, clean and cosy brandnew flat, perfect for two persons on a discovery tour in Athens. After a long day of sightseeing you get home and you feel home - preparing dinner (if you were not out in some restaurant recommended by Nikos!), watching TV, taking a bath and sleeping on a wonderful mattress. The flat is central enough so that you don't loose much time when moving around the city. And when you close the doors, you hardly hear the buzzling outside. Don't miss the view from the roof terrace! (B.J. Germany).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spacious and nicely furnished appartment, absolutely honest description, located in a quiet and safe, yet urban part of Athens, conveniently close to the center, but above the smog on a breezy hill - excelent value for the moderate price! Perfect retreat from the buzz of the city for a family of 4, completely equiped kitchen, supermarkets within close reach, nice dining in the flat or on the roof-terrace with a splendid view down to centre, Acropolis and the sea. To get to the centre don't bother with busses, a taxi is just 5 €, just take the address in Greek and a map if your cabby pretends not to know the way back. Nikos went out of his way to make our stay a very pleasant one, from the pickup service at the airport at night to the food and vine basket which kept us fed for a whole day (the vine for longer), to every imaginable kind of info or help we needed - we parted as friends!

A Haven in the middle of the city
Left on 10/15/2011 for a stay in October 2011
This apartment is a haven in this busy city! The apartment is immaculate: the kitchen is modern & well-stocked. In the month we spent in Greece, it was the only place that had a microwave, & the bed was the most comfortable we slept in! The reason it was a haven: it had it's own little yard, a wonderful place to sit outside or to let the outside in with the large doors that opened onto it. The view from the rooftop balcony literally took my breath away! It is exactly like the photos, only it's better than any photo can show. Not only do you see the Parthenon, beautiful both during the day (I could see the colors of the marble better from here than from up close)), but by night, when the acropolis is lit up, but you see the Saronic Gulf & islands. It feels like you are above all of athens, taking it all in! The owner, Nikos, goes above & beyond to help you in every way. Since we didn't have GPS to find the apartment, he met us & we followed him there. He also drove us around the neighborhood so we could see how to find everything, & drew us a map of how to get out of the neighborhood to get to the airport. He also gave us with a bottle of wine to celebrate the end of an awesoome month in Greece.
If you want to be in the middle of all of the touristy shops on the Plaka & ancient sites, etc., then perhaps you should stay in the Plaka. However, even if you are in a very basic, budget hotel, you won't save money by staying in the Plaka. But if you want to stay in the 'real' Athens, with a pleasant square & authentic tavernas that serve up authentic Greek food, you will like it here. Just take a taxi to everything you want to see (don't try to drive!) Taxis are cheap in the city center, it won't cost much.
One thing you should know: although the neighborhood square is only a few blocks away, it is easy to get lost in the maze of streets until you learn your way around. Just ask anyone & they will point you in the right direction, & enjoy the adventure!

"Highly Recommend - Honest and Trustworthy"
Nikos and his mother were both great to us during our stay. To start with Nikos maintains great e-mail contact before, during and after our trip. When we had no cell phone his mother was extremely helpful by making calls on our behalf. The apartment was exactly as shown in pictures and described on the website. If you are going on a trip to Athens I would recommend you consider staying here.

The feedback left was POSITIVE:
I would like to start by saying that Nikos is one of the most likeable persons I have met in a very long time. He communicated with me through the entire period before my arrival, provided a lot of useful information, tips & advices, he was very friendly, polite & honest and any person traveling to Athens, should really consider his advice about transportation as this can be a bit of a nightmare in a city that is very large & taxis are constantly on strike. The flat is exactly how is described, coming from America, there are certain standards that I like to have in a home and this flat had every single of them, from air conditioning to, wifi, to washing machine, nice patio area & a great roof top that overlooks the acropolis., I really enjoyed my stayed & visit and having air conditioning in the extreme heat was a plus.
Other than that, it was very quiet, I felt safe walking around even late at night & great super market, bakery, restaurants grocery stores just in a few blocks down the street.

Grab this place before someone else does! Amazing Apartment, Amazing Customer Service, Amazing View of Athens (you can see the Mediterranean Sea). The apartment and its appliances are new and spotless and the customer service is flawless. Nikos gave us the best customer service out of the 3 airbnb reservations we had. He has arranged and prepared the apartment specifically for tourists and he thought of everything. Everything convenient you'd have in your home, Nikos has put here and organized so well we found everything immediately without having to search cupboards or drawers. (cotton swabs, bottle openers, silverware, dishes, etc...) We were welcomed warmly and had everything explained to us. A basket full of juice, milk, bread, sandwich supplies, wine, and snacks was the in the fridge so basically we had the next day's breakfast all ready to go thanks to Nikos. It really is more than I expected and made our stay so much better. Having a place like this to wake up in and come home to when you're tired is really worth it. Neat, Clean, open spaced, beautiful balconies, fast internet, endless hot water, lots of drawers and huge closet space, clean floors, brand new Air Conditioners, safe and secure heavy door, telecom to downstairs floor, elevator, and the list goes on and on. You won't be disappointed. (Kristian USA)

"Excellent +++"
The apartment is exactly as it looks in the pictures: bran-new, well equipped, clean, sunny and nicely decorated. We had an absolutely fantastic holiday and I would definitely recommend the place to anyone looking for a place to stay in athens. We are a couple with two kids aged 15 and 5 and the place was perfect for us, with all the comfort we were expecting and much more. We were there by the end of July during the taxi strike and using public means of transport to travel to all the places we wanted was easy and straight forward. The location is great, quiet but very well connected and with all that one may need (supermarket, pharmacy, grocery, restaurants, bars, bus, etc) in the vicinity. Nikos, the owner, is an excellent host and we are really grateful for all he did for us, he even greeted us with a basket with ham, cheese, croissants, wine, yoghurt, marmalades, butter, bread, etc. and called us many times during our stay to see how things were going. Much more than what were expecting!! The apartment itself is excellently equipped, the air conditioning worked absolutely fine and the washing machine was a plus in such hot weather. We definitely want to return to athens one day for five days is truly not enough for such a great city, and we will definitely try to stay again at this apartment. Thank you very much Nikos, we had a memorable stay!! Silvina (Silvina – Buenos Ayres)
Great Local Experience
We are an australian couple who travelled a long way from home to have the Greek experience. We were after a place that we could get a sense of living as a local. Whilst we couldn't speak English for the most part we integrated in the community. It was excellent to have Nikos as a backup in the event that we needed someone who spoke Greek, very reassuring. It was our home away from home for 2 weeks. Would recommend the accomodation as a nice alternative to the hotel if you have a longer stay. We would not hesitate to use the accomodation again.

This was everything we needed for a fantastic and well-budgeted
Left on 07/11/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This was everything we needed for a fantastic and well-budgeted holiday. Travelling with a teenager we needed both an easily monitored family space, and a private marital bedroom. My search for a hotel/ apartment stopped after I got an e-mail from Nikos; from that point on Nikos was helpful and readily available, responding to all queries with helpful recommendations (where to eat, car hire, even some some videogames to prove all aspects of civilization for our 14 year old). He went out of his way to accommodate and be helpful. The apartment is new, spotlessly clean, with dishes, washing machine, refrigerator, stove, etc . It is an excellent value. The view from the roof terrace encompasses the best of athens, the night is special when the acropolis is lit up. My son compared the streets with San Francisco. Everybody in the neighborhood is friendly, quiet, making you feel safe and welcome. Convenient: within several blocks are foodmarkets, bakery, small Greek restaurants, a supermarket, and the warm village square atmosphere of Kypseli Square. After travelling around athens for a week I happily recommend staying in an apartment in a residential area like Kypseli and enjoying day, and half day, trips to explore historical sites and the beaches. The evenings in the open air, and enjoying the open balconies, are so much quiter than the Hotel districts. We had a wonderful week late in June, and we left with pleasant memories and feeling love for the city and people. In summary, if you are looking for a convenient, private and inexpensive vacation with a friendly but non-intrusive host - this is a place for you. Nm (Natalie - New York)

"Fantastic apartment for Excellent value with a Superb Host"
Previously my family and I stayed at the heart of the athenian city which was unsafe and noisy during twilight hours. There were immigrants roaming around which left my husband and I feeling very unsettled, especially with two small children to both entertain and keep safe.
This visit, however, was entirely different in a positive way. Nikos, the owner, is considerate and caring with his guests and more than helped us with all our general enquiries.
The apartment itself was pleasantly surprising. It was new, fully equipped with beautiful furnishings that lent a cozy, homely feel. There is a huge terrace at the top of the apartment which is perfect for relaxing in the evening with spectacular views of the largest part of the city including the famous acropolis, Piraeus Harbor, Sardonic Gulf and the surrounding mountains.
The apartment's location is a lot quieter, we felt a lot safer yet it's still close to the town centre with many useful amenities within walking distance. There are taxis readily available to take you to all highlights such as the famous acropolis (6euros), Omonoia (4euros) and Syntagma square (5euros). The prices are cheaper for a family of 4 than public transport, although this is close by.
I highly recommend this home from home so would like to personally thank Nikos for all his help.
(Hannah – UK)
Your Response - Sep 28, 2011
Dear Hannah, I regret to admit you are right as for the center of Athens. We have more that 1.5 million immigrants "roaming around", most of them homeless and broke. Since they keep on coming and coming, they gather in the center looking for jobs and the state doesn't reach to support them. I wouldn't say there is real danger. It's only an impression. But you are right in one thing: Better living in an Greek residential area like ours (Kipseli), only 5 minutes by bus from Omonoia square, visiting the city center and the sights, far from the endless noise and pollution or the occasional anti-IMF demonstrations.

Unforgettable stay in a luxurious apartment
Left on 06/09/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We are an English family and we decided to spend a few days in athens before visiting our friends in Crete. We had booked to stay at one of Nikos' apartments and we didn't regret it. He picked us up from the airport very early in the morning and in 35' heat! We stayed at his apartment in Kipseli one of the most central areas of athens. The building was brand new, very tastefully decorated and very very clean. I fell in love with the kitchen which was extremely well equipped which was great as we cooked at home most days as my son has special dietary needs. The flat had a small garden where we enjoyed sitting and having our breakfast. Local shops nearby provided us with everything we needed. The neighborhood was very quiet and safe and the people were very friendly. Nikos showed to us a street called Fockinsnegro!!! or something like that just down the road with many restaurants serving Greek specialties. The flat is less than 10 mins (some 3 km) by bus from omonoia square near to Plaka - the old town - next to the acropolis, with charming restaurants and tavernas, very buzzy and great fun, and the area of Monastiraki, the flea market. From there, naturally we visited the acropolis which is an experience we will never forget! We decided to take a taxi back to the flat as we were worn out from our busy day, this cost us about 5 euros! unbelievable value as we had paid 5.40 for bus tickets. The evening before our departure Nikos came in with a bottle of wine and a plate of "mezedakia" made by his mother (she lives in the building). It was very kind of him and we would like to thank him once more for his hospitality. I cannot recommend this flat enough, we had a memorable stay. (Joanna UK)

Excellent place for staying in athens!
Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed at the 1bedroom apartment on the ground floor as a family for the purpose of participation in a medical congress held in the Megaro Congress Centre in athens. The apartment is in a safe area close to the city centre. The apartment was very clean, very comfortable, tastefully decorated with a quality beyond our expectations. It has a pleasant living room with a fully equipped kitchen, very convenient bathroom and bedroom. Me and my family have specifically very much enjoyed the small and nicely arranged garden linked with the living room and an additional advantage for us was the designated parking space, which was provided for our vehicle. It has a very easy access to transport and local restaurants and a good supermarket close to the apartment. The owner of the premise was very friendly and respectful and we all very much appreciate his kindness and his preparation of the welcoming package with a bottle of wine, some selection of cookies, cheese, etc. Thanks a lot. I definitely recommend this apartment as a place that I would prefer to stay again. (Artan Pristina-Cosovo)

What a find! We loved staying at Nikos' apartment. The apartment was perfectly true to its description - new, cozy, modern, comfortable, just a stone's throw away from the city centre (EUR 7,00 by taxi to acropolis; EUR 11,00 by taxi to the Piraeus port). The kitchen was fully equipped. And what a terrific balcony! The shutters provided the windows total privacy. Nikos was a pleasure to work with ... there were maps, directions to nearby shop, bakery, etc. prepared, and a bottle of wine to welcome us. Would highly recommend and love to return! Great location, considerate host
Left on 06/22/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We originally planned to book the flat for several days, most particularly based on location. Our plans changed last minute and I contacted Nikos to see whether we could have the flat slightly sooner, and for only a couple of nights. Fortunately the flat was available and he was great, very flexible and let us stay for just the two nights. The flat is modern and well-equipped, lovely view of athens (and the acropolis!) from the terrace. It's in a great location, only a few minutes by bus from the acropolis and (the beautiful) Plaka (but far enough from the city centre to avoid the anti-government/IMF demo on Saturday!). Public transport was good - bus stops only a few metres from the flat. Nikos left us with info about neighbourhood shops, restaurants, taxis and emergency info, etc, and the sights were fantastic. Athens is a lovely city and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it too! The only negative was that we couldn't stay longer, 2 days just didn't seem nearly enough. We were made to feel at home and really appreciated the kindness of the Greek people generally, and Nikos in particular. Many, many thanks, looking forward to coming back soon! The perfect apartment for our stay in athens! Nikos was a gracious and helpful host - he even picked us up from the airport. (for a fee). The apartment was clean, well-equipped and had two terraces. He provided a welcome basket, map and essential telephone numbers. The neighbourhood is quiet, and though not dead centre in athens, still close to everything. Thanks so much Nikos for your hospitality! (Sabrina – Stockholm)

The feedback left was POSITIVE:
Nikos was extremely kind and helpful. Despite the taxi strike in Athens, Nikos made our stay very pleasant. His flat is extremely gorgeous, the pictures posted online does no justice! There is a rooftop terrace where you can see Acropolis, and the bus stop is about 2 minutes away. I've stayed at 8 different residences in the past month while traveling through Europe and Niko's place was the best!!! (Mykim USA)

"Super cute apartment with a beautiful yard."
This apartment is certainly a value, very cute and cozy with everything you need to feel at home. We brought our 9 month baby along and Nikos made sure we had everything we needed for her (a crib, blender). He helped us out with everything and answered all of our questions. The backyard is great, as is the roof deck (it overlooks the whole city and the acropolis). Most of the apartment is very cool and cozy with a nice a.c. This apartment is quite in the center of everything. A taxi to the acropolis was only 6euros. And it's fun being in a truly Greek area! We were the only tourists, and we really enjoyed just exploring the neighborhood. We walked around for hours and hours. An excellent super market-grocery store is only two blocks away. I'd definitely recommend this apartment for a couple, or a couple and a baby. It's an excellent value and is very comfy. Nikos is also super-helpful. (Tara USA)

"The rent of this apartment has been a great experience, both for the quality of its owners, as the location and the benefits thereof. Located in a noble area of Athens with stunning view of the Acropolis, especially when it is lit , is a highly recommended accommodation at a price more than fair. the apartment is new, spacious, has all the comforts of your own home and constant attention, without being intrusive, Nikos, the owner. This is a contact for the future and an apartment to come back and recommend it without hesitation. "

Wonderful stay in Athens. Mr Karipidis is a very welcoming person who will make sure your stay will be pleasant. The apartment is simply perfect. Well decorated and has everything needed. The bedrooms are quite comfortable. The one facing the street has no direct air conditioning so was a bit warm compare to the rest of the apartment but nice anyway. Lots of windows. Beautiful view of the Parthenon from the roof terrace. Balconies every where. Good market down the street. Bus nearby to take you downtown. We were able to park for free 10 minutes away from the Parthenon in a big parking lot downtown. Brigitte & Andrew - Canada

Magnificent stay in gorgeous appartment
Left on 08/30/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This appartment is everything it promises and more, it's clean, brand new, nicely decorated and well located. Supermarket, bakery, busstop, restaurants and bars are all within a 5 minutes walk. We had a fabulous stay in athens, also to the kind an thougtfull advices of Nikos Karipidis, the owner. Nikos is an excelllent host and gide. We arrived on a Sunday and Supermarkets were closed. Nikos gave us a large basket with all the things you would like to have for a nice evening (for example wine and greek crackers) and a good breakfast (toast, marmelade milk, coffee etc. etc.) Nikos called several times to ask if everything was going like to be expected. He was very helpfull. We are a family of 4 (2 kids 18 and 15) and the appartment was perfect with all the comfort you need (wifi, air conditioning, washing machine, complete kitchen). When v isiting athens we recommend everybody to stay here. We had a marvelous time with some great evenings on the roofterrace with the astonishing view on athens, the sunset an not to forget the acropolis. Again we thank you Nikos, we had a magnificent stay in your gorgeous appartment. – (Elvera & John – Holland)

"Magnífico apartamento en la atenas residencial"
Sin duda volveremos al apartamento de Nikos si regresamos a atenas. Viajamos con nuestras hijas y ha sido un acierto escoger una zona no turística de atenas, pero lo suficientemente cerca de los museos y de la acrópolis.La puesta de sol desde la terraza es espectacular y el apartamento super nuevo y muy cómodo. Gracias Nikos por toda tu ayuda y simpatía.

"Wonderful apartment in the Athens residential"
Will definitely go back to the apartment of Nikos if we return to Athens. We traveled with our daughters and has been a success to choose a non-touristy area of Athens, but close enough to the museums and acrópolis. The sunset from the terrace is spectacular and the apartment super new and very comfortable. Nikos Thanks for all your help and sympathy. (Teresa & Tono – Madrid).
Nikos, the owner of the apartment, was extremely caring of our needs. He will pick up from the airport (for a fee). A taxi from the airport cost approx 35 euros. We caught a taxi to the acropolis Museum (10 euros), but there is a local bus service. There is a rooftop terrace with great views of the acropolis. We travelled as a three generation family of 7 which was a bit tight for the apartment, but for a couple of nights it was a very homely base. (Janis – Sydney, Australia)
Beyond expectations

This is a really lovely apartment, with exceptional hospitality provided by Nikos, the owner. There are 2 balconies and there is also use of the roof balcony so that you can enjoy meals or drinks in the shade or at sunset. One of us had an accident while we were there and Nikos was extraordinarily helpful and kind. The apartment is furnished and decorated to a high standard. We recommend use of taxis, cheap and make life much easier. Athens itself is wonderful, of course. (Jennifer R. – Ireland)

A suberb apartment. Lovely and clean and it has a very good kitchen. Nikos was very friendly and went out of his way to help us. the location is a little out of athens - you can walk into the centre - about half an hour (maybe less) or get a bus from nearby and be in in 10 mins. It was good to be out of the centre in a safe area with our children yet we could easily go into town for sight-seeing each day. (D.Daly – UK)

COMMENTS
For This is a really nice apartment for visiting Athens. The apartment is very clean and complete. The roof terrace reveals an amazing view on Athens, the Acropolis and the sunset. Nikos is an excellent host, always ready to help/advice
Against A cab to the Acropolis is only 8 euro and a very comfortable way to travel trough Athens. Bus and markets are only a 5 min. walk away.

Nikos went out of his way to make our stay in Athens enjoyable. The apartment was exactly as described. Very modern with every facility needed. The apartment was not in the tourist area but this made wondering the streets and shops more authentic. Highly recommended.
