The Attica region
Attica is a rich in tourist sites and attractions, diverse region that not only hosts Athens, a bustling metropolis brimming with life but also comprises a wide series of sites of breathtaking physical beauty, sandy beaches with excellent waters, and attractions with cultural content. With its mild winter climate, hot summer and sunny spring, it certainly is a year-all destination.
On one hand Athens, the capital city, offers everything you could possibly be looking for: culture, good food, nightlife, sun and Mediterranean hospitality. A visit to the Acropolis is of course a must, along with other archeaological sites in which Athens is abundant.
On the other hand, one should not forget that there is also the option of going on daytrips to one of the many beaches south of Athens by tram or to the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra by boat via the port of piraeus.
In either case, you will soon realise that Attica is truly a destination for all seasons!
The Athens area
Plaka:
With its undisputable charm, this area is one of the most frequented by visitors and natives alike. Plaka's winding pathways carry thousands of years of history. Walk amongst the buildings whose facades are dressed in 19th century neoclassical design and architecture. Dine at one or several of its restaurants. And explore the ancient monuments, contemporary museums and traditional souvenir shops throughout.
Monastiraki-Ancient Agora-Thission:
Its befitting that this monument the center of commercial and business life in ancient times would later give rise to the buzzing shopping district that surrounds it today. Of course, Monastiraki does not compare to the milieu of the ancient agora, but it still continues to inspire those who live, work and visit the area. With its traditional flea market, cafes and restaurants, you can actually experience the habits, whereabouts and living of the old Athenians. Also do not miss the Temple of Hephestus and take a long stroll around the acropolis cliff.
Psirri:
Once an area of leather tanning workshops, Psirri was transformed a few years back to make it Athens’ prime nightlife epicenter. Packed with a wide range of bars, tavernas, and dance clubs, it offers mainstream entertainment. Several Latin and Oriental-themed bars add the spice.

Reviews

Apartment is newly renovated and was a good value. We stayed here during the Athens 'unrest', but we felt secure since the apt has window shutters and a very secure door. We did however find it a bit isolating since the apt currently has no phone, TV or Internet access. Overall we would stay here again. |
