About the home

There is access to San Lorenzo Apartment either from the top floor of Palazzo Minciotti or from the garden at the back of the palazzo. It consists of one double and one twin bedroom, a truly massive open plan dining area/lounge, a separate kitchen and a modern shower room with bidet. There are far reaching views towards the medieval fortresses along the city walls, called Rocca and Rocchetta respectively. Guests who have mobility problems may find that this apartment is not very suitable due to the split levels, but otherwise it is stunning and gives an enormous sense of space.

Children would not need to go any further than the substantial terrace garden, which has some playground equipment and a small swimming pool for Summer. Any adult would be delighted by the wonderful views towards town and country from the garden and the privacy of many nooks and corners. It is also possible to cook in the sun room style kitchen in the middle of the garden, which is fully equipped, and to eat al fresco.

Further details

The minimum stay is three nights and 30% deposit is payable so secure the booking. The balance is payable not later than three weeks before arrival. Everything is included in the rental except parking fees for those who drive. These are payable to the Assisi town council. The public car park is only a few minutes walk from the Palazzo.

The Umbria region

Umbria is at the very centre of Italy and is a very green region. There are many medieval towns, such as Perugia, Orvieto, Foligno, Todi, Spoleto, Gubbio which all deserve a visit. There are also many Franciscan sites such as Santa Maria degli Angeli, San Damiano and the Eremo delle Carceri, all at a very short distance from Assisi.

The Assisi area

Assisi should not need an introduction. It is a well preserved medieval town with Roman remains and for the past 800 years it has attracted pilgrims as the birth place of St Francis of Assisi. The Mount Subasio Regional Park is only a few miles from Assisi and is ideal for walks in all seasons. All around Assisi there are olive groves, as the vegetation is mediterranean. The town itself is full of artistic treasures. The most famous churches are the two Basilicas of San Francesco, built one on top of the other, and the Basilica of Santa Chiara. They are some of the finest examples of medieval churches anywhere. There are also Roman museums to be visited, and other ancient churches. The main feast day is 4th October, in honour of St. Francis. There are other festivals throughout the year, such as Calendimaggio in early May.

Ryanair flies regularly from London Stansted to Perugia Airport, which is only a 15 minutes' drive from Assisi. Taxis are always available at the airport. There are also rental car companies.

The railway station is Santa Maria degli Angeli/Assisi. Buses are available every 15 minutes from the station to Piazza Matteotti, which is a few minutes' walk from Palazzo Minciotti. The bus ride takes about 15 minutes. Alternatively, there are taxis always available at the station.
