Also close by is the quaint Ashover Brewery. Step out of the door to see beautiful views and walk footpaths along the river Amber and Ashover Light Railway trail down to Ogston reservoir. Ashover won the prestigious Calor Village of the Year competition in 2005 but many other places of interest are only a short drive away, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock, Crich & Chesterfield for starters.

This is a wonderful traditional Derbyshire village on the edge of the Peak District and winner of the Calor village of the year award for good reason. Situated in the rural Amber valley with miles and miles of footpaths and lovely views all around, you only have a 10 minute drive to Matlock or Chesterfield for shopping. In the village are three good pubs, a post office, newsagent, butchers, tuck shop and Doctor's surgery. Ashover is a peaceful place but there is plenty going on if you look for it. Pick your week for beer festivals, shows, music festivals, concerts and lots of outdoor activities. The locals are really friendly too.

You are only a few paces from the Old Poets Corner, which boasts 10 real ales, 7 traditional ciders, fruit wines and single malts and if you choose not to cook, breakfast is served from 8:30 (please book) and home cooked food is served every lunch and evening. The Ashover micro brewery is also adjacent and you are most welcome to call in and see how beer is brewed or spend a day brewing yourself by prior arrangement. Nearby attractions are Chatsworth House, Crich Tramway Village, Heights of Abraham, Arkwrights Mills, Crooked Spire, Bakewell pudding infinitum-ish.
