The Peak District National Park region

The Peak District is situated at the southern end of the Pennines in Central England covering most of northern Derbyshire as well as parts of Cheshire, Yorkshire and Staffordshire. Over 22 million day visits are made to the Peak District National Park every year, making it the second-most visited National Park in the world.

For those interested in history, there are a number of stately homes to visit such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Eyam Hall, all of which offer a range of cultural activities throughout the year.

The Peak District provides opportunities for many types of outdoor activity. An extensive network of public footpaths and numerous long-distance trails (over 3000 km in total), as well as large open-access areas, are available for hillwalking and hiking. Bridleways are commonly used by mountain bikers, as well as horse riders. Some of the long-distance trails re-use former railway lines; they are much used by walkers, horse riders and cyclists.

The local towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Bath, each famous in its own right, offer culture, shopping, restaurants and traditional markets and if you still have energy, there is always the famous theme park of Alton Towers.

The beautiful village of Ashford-in-the-Water lies near the heart of the Peak District, three miles from the bustling market town of Bakewell, five miles from Buxton, famous for its spa and waters, and less than 15 miles from Sheffield.

There are excellent walks from the door, especially down Deep Dale to reach the River Wye or down Lathkill Dale and Cressbrook Dales down to Monsal Dale and Monsal Head. Cressbrook Dale and Tansley Dale are famous for their wild flowers, as are several other local dales.

In the summer, Ashford in the Water and many other local villages create unique well dressings from flower petals. And we have our very own Sheldon Day, including a Poultry show and Dog show.

At Christmas time, the area hosts a range of Christmas activities, such as carols in the caves at Castleton, music by local brass bands, events at nearby Chatsworth House, Xmas markets and whole villages dressed with Christmas lights..

"A perfect base for what was a wonderful long weekend."

Superb accommodation. Warm and cosy. Very clean. Well equipped. Brilliant location. 2 great pubs and 1 hotel restaurant minutes away by foot. Easy walk to Bakewell with its great shops and numerous eateries. Delicious cakes at pudding shop! Definitely planning a return visit early next year. Best cottage we have ever stayed in. "Beautiful cottage in great location"

We stayed at the cottage for 9 days in mid October. It is wonderfully well equipped and nicely decorated. The heating was useful in the evenings, and we were very grateful for lashings of hot water for showers after long days walking! We even managed to make use of the outside courtyard patio one afternoon, a bonus for October! Location is perfect for exploring the Peak District and the village has a well equipped local store, 2 excellent pubs and a cafe. We hope to return!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage and the Peaks. Thank you for taking the time to provide us such a nice review also. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, LF

"Top Quality Accomodation"

Stayed for a long weekend and was thoroughly impressed by this quaint period cottage, which is decorated and furnished to an impressively high and tasteful standard. The property is very clean, comfortable and has a distinct home-from-home feel. There really isn't anything negative to mention about this property or its owners, I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage for those considering a break in the Peak District.
Ashford-in-the Water, where Old Bakery Cottage can be found, is also a delightful and pretty village, making it a perfect place to stay. We stay in the Peak District several times a year and would not hesitate to return and to recommend it to others.

Thank you for your kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind Regards, LF

"A real Gem in the Dales"

Looking for a quality cottage in a perfect village location? Something special? Then here it is at The Old Bakery. Beautifully decorated with everything you need (and more) and some of the best pub food we've had at the Bull Inn just a few minutes walk away.

The locals are all warm and welcoming and you'll soon feel right at home.

Perfect location for walking right from the door step and the main town of Bakewell just 5-mins drive away - or 45-mins by foot along the riverside.

The Old Bakery is a rare find and we greatly look forward to returning.

Thank you for your kind review, and we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage and the village of Ashford-in-the-Water. The Bull is a great pub and definitely worth a mention! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Regards, LF

"Perfect cottage in a fab location"

We have just returned from a week-long stay in the Old Bakery Cottage. It was a perfect little cottage which has been finished to a high standard. It had everything we could need from a self-catering cottage in a peaceful village. It is well situated for exploring the many walks in the Peak District and with a bike path nearby it really had everything we wanted. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, cosy cottage to get away from it all!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. We look forward to you returning in the near future. Kind Regards, LF

"First Class Cottage"

The Old Bakery has been beautifully refurbished and is well equipped with very comfortable sofas and beds. It is ideally situated to tour the Peak District. Although there was only two of us, a family of four could comfortably stay here. Loved the extras such as blankets and high quality hair driers. We can't wait to return!

Firstly thank you for the kind review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, LF

"Perfect Peak District cottage"

Lovely cottage within a lovely village. Very peaceful stay at The Old Bakery. The decor is beautifully done and the bathroom is great with instant hot water and both a bath and shower which is well thought out. We would have preferred a King size bed in main bedroom as husband is 6ft 4 but that is our problem. Chatsworth and the Monsail track are not far away. Bakewell only a couple of miles which can get busy at weekends especially Bank holidays! Communication with the owner was exceptional as we booked last minute with all queries answered promptly. They can be very proud of this little gem.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. Thank you for the kind review and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, LF

"Lovely, cosy cottage"

My husband, my 11-year-old son and I stayed at the Old Bakery Cottage for ten nights. We had a lovely time there, a peaceful little place near enough to Bakewell and to many wonderful walks in the area. The cottage is well-equiped and the village of Ashford-in-the-water is a beautiful place. We really felt at home.

Thank you for the kind review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. Hopefully we can welcome you again soon. Regards, LF
