The Peak District National Park region
The Peak District is situated at the southern end of the Pennines in Central England covering most of northern Derbyshire as well as parts of Cheshire, Yorkshire and Staffordshire. Over 22 million day visits are made to the Peak District National Park every year, making it the second-most visited National Park in the world.
For those interested in history, there are a number of stately homes to visit such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Eyam Hall, all of which offer a range of cultural activities throughout the year.
The Peak District provides opportunities for many types of outdoor activity. An extensive network of public footpaths and numerous long-distance trails (over 3000 km in total), as well as large open-access areas, are available for hillwalking and hiking. Bridleways are commonly used by mountain bikers, as well as horse riders. Some of the long-distance trails re-use former railway lines; they are much used by walkers, horse riders and cyclists.
The local towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Bath, each famous in its own right, offer culture, shopping, restaurants and traditional markets and if you still have energy, there is always the famous theme park of Alton Towers.
The beautiful village of Ashford-in-the-Water lies near the heart of the Peak District, three miles from the bustling market town of Bakewell, five miles from Buxton, famous for its spa and waters, and less than 15 miles from Sheffield.
There are excellent walks from the door, especially down Deep Dale to reach the River Wye or down Lathkill Dale and Cressbrook Dales down to Monsal Dale and Monsal Head. Cressbrook Dale and Tansley Dale are famous for their wild flowers, as are several other local dales.
In the summer, Ashford in the Water and many other local villages create unique well dressings from flower petals. And we have our very own Sheldon Day, including a Poultry show and Dog show.
At Christmas time, the area hosts a range of Christmas activities, such as carols in the caves at Castleton, music by local brass bands, events at nearby Chatsworth House, Xmas markets and whole villages dressed with Christmas lights..

"Home Comforts whilst away from home"
This cottage has comfortable seating; a television that works; wi-fi to keep in touch with the rest of the world (if you must), pleasant relaxing bedrooms, a lovely bathroom; convenient, usable kitchen and a peaceful courtyard garden - with bird nesting boxes! The cottage has been sympathetically updated whilst retaining a "cottage" character. We found Ashford in the Water to be friendly with a choice of eating places. It is very convenient to reach Bakewell or the Monsal Trail by cycle or bus and, in the car, Bluxton. You can, of course, visit the rest of the county too and we spent a delightful day walking in Dovedale. We will certainly try to book Old Bakery Cottage again for next year's L'Eroica event.
Thank you for the kind review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, LF

We had a great week in this cottage. It is cosy but not too small and is decorated in a contemporary style that provides you with the comforts that you need. Because it was such lovely weather we were out a lot but we did however make use of the lovely courtyard at the rear which catches the morning sun. We also cooked in a few times and the kitchen had all the basics needed. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom a bit of luxury! We will definitely return!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. Thank you for taking the time to provide us a nice review and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards,LF

My wife and I stayed in the Old Bakery for a week and it was just wonderful! It proved to be the perfect base for all our adventures and we were able to easily get to all the places we wanted to visit during our stay both on foot and by bus (neither of us drive). The cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious. After a long day of hiking a warm bath and a bit of TV was just what you wanted to come back to! I'd certainly recommend staying here.
Its great to hear that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking the time to provide us with such a kind review. We hope you will return and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Kind Regards, LF

"A wonderful cottage in a beautiful village"
I have just returned home after a wonderful long weekend in the Peak District with my partner and two friends. We stayed at the Old Bakery Cottage for three nights and had a lovely time. The landlord was very accommodating, allowing us to arrive earlier and check out in the afternoon. The cottage itself was clean, homely, beautifully decorated and we had the luxury of a real fire! The rooms were sparkly clean and the beds were unbelievably comfortable. When we arrived there was tea and coffee in the kitchen and lots of helpful information about things to do in the area. The shower was lovely and warm and all four of us showered without the hot water ever running out. The cottage is located in a gorgeous little village and there are a number of great walks you can go on right outside the cottage. We had a fab time and would highly recommend staying here.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage. Thank you also for the kind review, we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, LF

"Beautiful cottage in great location"
We stayed at the cottage for 9 days in mid October. It is wonderfully well equipped and nicely decorated. The heating was useful in the evenings, and we were very grateful for lashings of hot water for showers after long days walking! We even managed to make use of the outside courtyard patio one afternoon, a bonus for October! Location is perfect for exploring the Peak District and the village has a well equipped local store, 2 excellent pubs and a cafe. We hope to return!
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage and the Peaks. Thank you for taking the time to provide us such a nice review also. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, LF

"Top Quality Accomodation"
Stayed for a long weekend and was thoroughly impressed by this quaint period cottage, which is decorated and furnished to an impressively high and tasteful standard. The property is very clean, comfortable and has a distinct home-from-home feel. There really isn't anything negative to mention about this property or its owners, I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage for those considering a break in the Peak District. Ashford-in-the Water, where Old Bakery Cottage can be found, is also a delightful and pretty village, making it a perfect place to stay. We stay in the Peak District several times a year and would not hesitate to return and to recommend it to others.

"A real Gem in the Dales"
Looking for a quality cottage in a perfect village location? Something special? Then here it is at The Old Bakery. Beautifully decorated with everything you need (and more) and some of the best pub food we've had at the Bull Inn just a few minutes walk away. The locals are all warm and welcoming and you'll soon feel right at home. Perfect location for walking right from the door step and the main town of Bakewell just 5-mins drive away - or 45-mins by foot along the riverside. The Old Bakery is a rare find and we greatly look forward to returning.
Thank you for your kind review, and we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at the Old Bakery Cottage and the village of Ashford-in-the-Water. The Bull is a great pub and definitely worth a mention! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Regards, LF

"Perfect cottage in a fab location"
We have just returned from a week-long stay in the Old Bakery Cottage. It was a perfect little cottage which has been finished to a high standard. It had everything we could need from a self-catering cottage in a peaceful village. It is well situated for exploring the many walks in the Peak District and with a bike path nearby it really had everything we wanted. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, cosy cottage to get away from it all!
