The South East England region

You are ideally placed for a walking holiday and are equidistant (9 miles) between the historic city of Canterbury, and Ashford, Folkestone and Hythe.

Head to the picturesque village of Wye where there is a Farmers Market selling local produce and the breathtaking views along the Wye Downs. From the Wye Crown you can see France on a clear day.

Ashford, Kent

The closest beach is Hythe, where some of the best fish and chips are to be found. Whitstable is 13 miles, where the world's best oysters can be sampled with a glass of crisp white by the sea or why not buy your fresh fish from the harbour and bring it home for a cosy supper. Also to be found are some of the best antique shops. Kite boarding can be observed – and for the more fool hardy, attempted!

Alternatively, visit John Aspinall's 300 acre wild animal park at Port Lympne or the more compact Howlett's at Canterbury, also beautiful Leeds Castle (and enjoy the grounds again and again with a 365 day ticket after your first entry - no extra charge) or historic Hever Castle, family seat of the Howards and home to Anne Boleyn.

Day trips to France and Belgium from Dover or through the Tunnel, don't forget your Passport!

"A real Kentish gem, peace comfort and tranquility with wonderful hosts."

Shaws Farm Cottage well deserves it's 4 star rating. Modern, beautifully presented stylish accommodation in glorious countryside within easy reach of East Kent highlights .( See owners web site). You are spoilt for choice. We have just returned but have visited several times in May, June and Sept.
On a sheep farm and private from owners adjoining farmhouse, we found the cottage to be
extremely well equiped with spacious well furnished rooms flooded with light. A real home from home feel with views over the pastures. The added little extras make this self catering cottage a real discovery. Lazy days on the beach at Hythe one of our favourite spots together with wonderful fresh fish a real treat. We really enjoyed visiting old haunts as my family and I originate from Kent and returning each day to the comforts of the cottage ensure a perfect break at any time of year. Once discovered it's hard to stay away and so easy to forget you have to go home ! Thank you Susan and Ray for your warm welcome and for sharing this not so little gem, we wish it was our secret !
