The Heart of England/Peak District

The Peak District and Derbyshire is a contrast of high rolling moorland, craggy outcrops and picture post card vales and valleys with ‘chocolate box' villages. The whole area is dominated by Britain's first national park; The Peak District National Park which has been catering for visitors for many years. It's easy to get around with a good network of roads and excellent public transport. There are many places of interest including some lovely towns and villages such as Bakewell, Buxton and Ashbourne as well as historical attractions like Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. To the north of the region is the High Peak, with miles of heather moorland and great country walks and cycling.

Godfrey Hole Cottage is located close to the Carsington Water, a popular reservoir located on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is also a haven for sailing, fishing and canoeing enthusiasts alike. Offering an additional number of walks and cycle routes around the reservoir, this area is a perfect place to stay for anyone interested in outdoor pursuits! The historic town of Wirksworth is also nearby, offering a number of unique shops, pubs and restaurants to visit, including ‘Le Mistral', which offers fine wine and food. Wirksworth is an old Saxon town and evidence of its past can be seen in the distinctive historical buildings dotted around the town, making it an excellent place to visit. Matlock is also nearby, offering a plethora of things to see and do, from fine restaurants and shops to popular visitor attractions such as Gulliver's Kingdom and the nearby stately homes of Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Harwick Hall.
