We spent a weekend at Emily Barn to celebrate my Dad's 75th birthady. There were 13 of us (age 8 to 75) and we all enjoyed every minute. The cottage was beautiful with everything you could need for a relaxing time away. Each of the bedrooms had their own character but all had crisp cotton sheets and very comfortable beds. There were lots of windows so the place was bright and airy. January isn't a good month for sitting outside but there are plenty of tables and chairs outside, as well as in. The living space was big enough to accomodate us all but there were places in the building to escape to if a quiet moment was required. We really appreciated the fact that there was plenty of essentials available in the cupboards (salt, pepper, oil, dish washing equipment etc.) - it's a nuisance to go away to a self catering place and find every cupboard empty. I tend to be well organised but there is always some little thing I forget. At Emily Barn this didn't matter, Val & Doug seem to have thought of everything. We visited the Miners Arms and had a good meal there on Sunday afternoon. My nephews (8, 10 & 11) loved playing football with the local children and we managed to fit afew walks into our weekend. All 13 of us strolled round Carsington Water. As it is more or less flat it is a relatively easy walk. There is plenty of other activities available at the visitors centre too. |
Guestbook for Emily Barn
Used Swiers Farm & Emily Barn for a group of 18 adults as a base for a walking weekend/get together. All of the group were full of praise for the facilities provided. We found the properties scrupulously clean, furnished to an exceptional standard and plenty of crockery etc, the welcome pack of tea/coffee/milk/biscuits much appreciated after a long journey. Although the rooms are not on-suite, there are plenty of bathrooms and no queuing even to soak aching limbs after a long walk on Saturday!
No hesitation in recommending this accommodation.
