The Heart of England/Peak District
Situated within The Peak National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Limestone and Gritstone quarries are still worked, but generally hidden by trees. Lead mining was once carried out in the area, but ceased some years ago. Hills and valleys create some dramatic scenery. Derbyshire once sat under a shallow sea. Evidence can often be seen in the rocks, with fossils of small crustations.
Blue John Gemstone is a rare mineral and the alternating colour bands of blue to purple through to yellow or white are unique to the Treak Cliff Hill in Derbyshire. The shallow rivers are ideal for Trout.
We have a beautiful video of the area on our own website.
Some of the local places within half an hour of Ravenscliffe Farm are: Matlock Bath and The Heights of Abraham and Gullivers Kingdom. Dovedale, Alton Towers, Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood, Keddleston Hall, Bakewell, home of the original Bakewell Tart and Bakewell Pudding.
Other places to visit within forty five minutes to an hour are: Haddon Hall, setting for Jane Eyre, Chatsworth - back cloth for Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess of Wolfman. Dovedale, Lindale and Ilam Hall, featured in Robin hood, Jane Eyre and The other Boleyn Girl, Hardwick Hall of The Elizabethan era. Derwent Valley with Lady Bower Reservoir.

"Impeccable property in a beautiful location,"
Have just returned, from our ninth visit and each time unique and special, Arrived just in time before being snowed in for the weekend.! The proprietors as always, immediately at hand to assist us, this time through the snow drifts. Homestead is an impeccably maintained property wanting for nothing.
The proprietors go to great lengths to ensure this and it shows,Ravenscliffe Farm truly is a place for all seasons. Ideally situated for exploring all the best that Derbyshire has to offer Walks and cycle rides directly from the farm Wildlife and stunning views from the doorstep.
A special place to stay and enjoy

What a great place!!! I have traveled extensively over the years without children, but now have to find somewhere that caters to me and my children and the homestead cottage did just that. I have never felt so relaxed on a holiday with my children. They loved it, the freedom the outdoor space the ability to roam, so much so we are taking my husband to Ravenscliffe Farm in October as he wants to see what all the fuss was about. Everything you could think of that would be needed for a self catering holiday was in the cottage. David and Sandra the owners made our stay!! They are such warm and friendly people we felt like part of the family. My 4 year old cried most of the way home because he wanted to stay at the farm. The location makes it perfect for exploring the local area with lots of places to visit all within a 1/2 drive. The Bentley pub down the road was great with an outdoor area for the children to run wild.
We look forward to our guests returning and are really happy that they enjoyed themselves. It was a pleasure to see the children making the most of the countryside and showing a genuine interest in the wildlife etc.

It is good to know that our efforts with the cottage are appreciated. It makes it all so worth while. For us, that is a breath of fresh air. We will continue to do our best to make guests comfortable. Once again, lovely visitors and most welcome to come and stay any time. There is so much to see and do in the area.

"Just fantastic - didn't want to leave."
Lovely clean cottage, warm and cosy and furnished to a high standard. Sandra and David were very friendly and helpful during our stay without being obtrusive and the children fully appreciated feeding the chickens, horses and Dougie. The farm location made the the south of the Peak District easily accessible. All in all our expectations were exceeded and we would return.
Thank you to the children for helping out with the animals. The chickens love to be fed. It was a pleasure having our guests stay. Thank you all.

"Well worth a visit"
Just returned from a very enjoyable 4 days stay at Homestead Cottage on Ravenscliff Farm. The location of the farm is stunning, situated on a hill with spectacular views all around. We were made to feel very welcome from our arrival by the owners, David and Sandra Snow, who couldn't have been anymore friendly and helpful. The freshly laid eggs provided by Sandra were a very welcome extra. Duggie the lama and Tia the horse were always pleased to greet us when we went to see them.
Homestead Cottage itself is exceptional. We stayed in February and every room was centrally heated which made the cottage very cosy and comfortable. You will find it is stocked with everything you could want from dishwasher down to hairdryer. The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 people and each room is tastefully done.
We will definitely visit again and being “townies” can honestly say we are now converts to the countryside.
We very much appreciate our guests staying with us and enjoying all that Ravenscliffe has to offer.

"Wished we could of stayed longer, can't wait to go back"
They say there's no place like home. This is not actually true. There is, and it's called Ravenscliffe Farm. We stayed in Homestead cottage for a long weekend and absolutely loved it. We couldn't get over the cleanliness and quality of the cottage. The place is just full of character, everywhere you look there are talking points. It's special. Everything you could possibly want is there in the cottage, every time you think of something you might need you open a cupboard or drawer and there it is.
There is simply stunning scenery to be found everywhere you look around the farm and cottages. Ravenscliffe Farm is well placed for anyone who is looking for quiet relaxation, walking, or simply as a base to explore the surrounding areas. The local Bentley Brook inn at the end of the road serves excellent food and is well worth a visit.
There's a vast array of places to explore in this area and during our stay we visited Bakewell, about a 20 min drive, what a wonderful place that is! And Ashbourne about a 5 min drive is also well worth a visit.
As it's obvious from my review, I can say no more to give a glowing review of this lovely place. I have no hesitation in recommending this destination to anyone!
It is lovely to know that Homestead Cottage is viewed as home on holiday. I am so pleased that our guests enjoyed themselves and were relaxed enough to feel so comfortable.

"Excellent base from which to tour the Peak District"
Homestead cottage offers you a warm and cosy place to stay with all the home comforts you could need. We have not been disappointed by the cottage or it's location on both our visits and we will go back again to stay in one of the holiday lets available at Ravenscliffe Farm. Sandra and David Snow are a pleasure to do business with.

"Excellent in every way possible."
The property has everything that is required to give you a wonderful holiday.
It can be a relaxing hideaway. A brilliant location for any age group; plus, the accomodation itself has everthing that is needed for a worry free holiday.
I love the fact that the owners really care about the visitors that stay in their properties.
A good example is the welcome pack, including new laid eggs from free range hens. Then there is the cattle, sheep and horses.
There is always somthing to look at. The veiws are stunnung. From all sides you can see farmland and wildlife.
I am unable to find anything negative.
Herby and Julia
Thank you to our guests for placing such a nice and we believe very honest review. It is much appreciated. We cetainly have people come to stay for the rest and to get away from it all. We hope that we have provided everything in the cottage to make our guests very comfortable. Fortunately Ravenscliffe Farm is only 10 minutes from the market town of Ashbourne and one mile from the nearest pub.

"Wonderful and relaxing with fabulous views!"
This cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped, and the owners, Sandra and David, could not have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had a lovely week exploring this beautiful area by … More

"Beautiful, peaceful, welcoming"
Set in a serene, rural location, this is a fabulous 'get away from it all' property, with plenty of nearby attractions (such as Chatsworth, Dovedale, etc) and a couple of pubs within walking distance. Sandra and Dave are incredibly welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them and they were happy to show us around the farm, showing us wildlife and introducing us to the animals. We all had free range of the farm (a great place for children to roam safely) and managed plenty of walking from the door.
We are really pleased that our guests have found Homestead Cottage to be everything they were looking.
