You can take a spectacular walk over some of the 500 sq. miles of countryside and National Park, enjoy the rich cultural history of the area in the wonderful Chatsworth House (where Pride and Prejudice was filmed) and the wealth of other stately homes. There are also bustling, bright towns, cosy country pubs and great shopping all around. It is a trip that will be truly magical and compelling with so much to do in this glorious area of the English countryside.
The Ashbourne / Alstonefield area
Alstonefield has won the best village award many times in the past. It is a stunning village with a close knit community who are always friendly and willing to help. Alstonefield is actually built on a limestone plateau, which is 900 feet above sea level, making for lovely views. There is a popular old coaching inn just in front of the old wool market, and shops that used to thrive on the silk industry, making silk buttons! It is a wonderful village, with craft shops and galleries to potter about in as well as being the link to the wonderful countryside all around.

As you cWell we have been holidaying at the coach house since 1998 and have returned again and again with family and friends. The Coach house very spacious and has all the comforts from home and it has one of the best washing up views to! We now have a family of our own so holiday has changed it used to be wandering the lovely towns of buxton, bakewell, hartington, ashbourne and leek and then thrill seeking at alton towers. Now its Thomas land at Drayton manor, Abraham heights cable car ride at Matlock, but still a visit to Bakewell for a yummy tart! The owners of the farm are very friendly and last year we fed the lambs and this year our 3 year old collected eggs and fed the chickens, and loved watching the farmers out of the window. As you can see I can go on about this place forever but pay it a visit and make your own minds up. |

Took our first holiday at Gateham Grange in the 1980's with our teenage children and have returned on a number of occasions including last year with one of the 'children' fast approaching 40! Every visit has been a pleasure, clean comfortable accommodation ,a warm welcome from Teresa and Robert who were always happy to help. A real working farm to savour, and plenty of things to see, do and eat in the area. We'll be back. |
