The Heart of England/Peak District
Birdsgrove House nestles on the edge of the tranquil Oakover Country Estate, set in the heart of the countryside, but with superb road links and local amenities only a 5 minute drive away.
The historic market town of Ashbourne is one of Derbyshire's finest old market towns and lies just 1 mile away from Birdsgrove House. Famous for its antique shops, it also offers cafes, restaurants, bars, gifts and craft shops. Its cobbled market place and hidden alleys are a delight to explore, as is the elegant Church Street, which is considered to be one of the finest streets of Georgian buildings in Derbyshire.
Two miles from Birdsgrove House is the Peak District National Park, with the picturesque villages of Ilam, Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud as a small example of the many areas of the park offering attractions including the Rock Pillars at Ilam, Viators Bridge in Milldale, the Stepping Stones which lead to the limestone carvings at Lover's Leap and Reynard's Cave. There are also several trails such as Tissington and High Peak, which weave through the countryside, providing popular recreational walks and cycle paths that follow the former railway lines.
The rich historic heritage of the area provides Chatsworth House, and Kedleston Hall amongst many others, whilst also enjoying Carsington Water, with its watersports and visitor centre and the fabulous theme park of Alton Towers less than half an hours drive away, makes this an ideal place to both play, enjoy and relax. Cycle hire is available locally. Shops include M&S Foods, Waitrose and Sainsburys less than 5 minutes drive away. Corner shop and pub 1/4 mile.
