Howard Cottage at Number 22 Bond Street was built in the 1860s as accommodation for the servants of Arundel Castle. No more than a couple of hours drive from London, Arundel is ideal for a long weekend or a week's holiday spent exploring the countryside. The cottage is also a convenient base for the many special events in the region, including Goodwood Festival of Speed, The Goodwood Revival, The Arundel Festival, The Brighton Festival, Racing at Fontwell and Goodwood, and many, many others.
Now a cosy holiday retreat, the cottage is an ideal base to explore the Arundel and other delightful towns and villages in West Sussex. You can be walking on the South Downs within five minutes of leaving the cottage. The South Downs Wetland Reserve is just 20 minutes away or, if you prefer, you can be in Brighton within 40 minutes, and shopping in the Lanes. If you want to a more relaxed holiday, you can spend your time on the beach in nearby Littlehampton. If you just want to stroll around Arundel for a couple of days, the cottage is right in the middle of the town.

The cottage is a Grade II listed building, in the middle of a conservation area. In keeping with the character of the cottage, the stairs in the house are steep, but handrails are provided. The views from the master bedroom on the second floor stretch over the rooftops of Arundel, down to the English Channel.
On the Ground Floor there is a comfortable lounge with digital TV, DVD player and CD player, music, films, books, games and maps. The cottage has a modern, fully equipped kitchen, including range cooker, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment, washing machine, iron, ironing board and clothes airer.
Open stairs leading to First Floor where you'll find the first bedroom with twin beds, wardrobe, bedside cabinets and dressing table. There is also a luxury bathroom with separate shower cubicle, large bath, bidet, WC and basin. The enclosed staircase leading to Second Floor to the second bedroom which has a double bed with wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and TV, with a beautiful countryside view across Arundel out towards the Channel. The third bedroom is small but comfortable with a single bed, chest of drawers and hanging space. The additional cloakroom has WC and hand basin. All bedrooms are fully equipped with all linens, towels, alarm clocks, bedside lamps and hair dryers.

Outside the front door there is a small patio area where you can sit and relax in the sunshine. Whilst the cottage does not have a rear garden, there is a lawn area to the rear of the cottage where it is possible to sit and relax in peace and quiet. This large private green shared by the other cottages in the terrace which is enclosed on all sides, so is a safe place for children to play.
Further details
Parking is on the road, outside the cottage. Apart from Sundays when there is activity in the Cathedral, the road is quiet and parking is normally available within yards of the cottage. However, parking during the Arundel Festival can be difficult, please contact the owner for further details.
Conditions
Tariff includes all linens, towels, heating, hot water and cleaning at the end of your stay. A deposit of 25% is payable on confirmation of your booking. Full settlement is required for bookings within 8 weeks of your stay. Prices subject to confirmation at the time of booking. Please check the cottage website or call the owner for short break prices.
The cottage is no smoking, and we do not accept pets.

Arundel in West Sussex offers a wide range of activities, events, and things to do. The local area includes some 15 miles of coastline and the natural beauty of the South Downs, which was recently declared a National Park. Arundel is within easy reach of Brighton - the "London of the South", for a more lively day out.
The cottage is also a convenient base for the many special events in the region, including Goodwood Festival of Speed, The Goodwood Revival, The Arundel Festival, The Brighton Festival, Racing at Fontwell and Goodwood, and many, many others. Goodwood is no more than 15km, or 20 minutes away by car.
The Arundel area
Arundel is a small market town with a population of some 3,000. Steeped in history, it is well placed for easy access to both the South Coast and the countryside. There is a wide range of activities on offer in the area, from the leisurely to the more energetic.
The cottage is in the heart of the town, within walking distance of the castle, cathedral, antique shops, Farmers Market, restaurants, and tea rooms. The Arundel Wetlands Centre is an easy 20 minute walk to the north of the town. The beach in Littlehampton is a quick drive away, where you can windsurf, kite surf, sail or just watch the world go by.
If it's history you are after, Arundel Castle is a short walk from the cottage and is one of the great treasure houses of England, home to priceless works of art. Bosham, where King Canute famously attempted to turn back the tide when he grew tired of the flattery of the locals, is within half an hour's drive. Bignor Roman Villa, the remains of a spectacular roman home with world class mosaic floors, is just ten minutes away.

Arundel is an historic market town in the county of Sussex, in the south of England. Arundel Town Cottages are in the centre of Arundel, at the top of the town in Bond Street, a short side road of cottages built around 1865.
You can drive to Arundel, or arrive by train and take a short taxi ride from the station. If you are flying into the UK, Gatwick Airport is about 45 minutes away and we can arrange a taxi or car hire for you.
Southampton Airport is slightly closer at 43 miles (70km). To drive to the cottage, drive towards Arundel Cathedral which is visible from all sides of the town. Drive down the road between the cathedral and a public house called St. Mary's Gate. This road is called King Street. Turn first right into Bond Street. Number 22 is on your right, at the end of the street.
