About the home

Macauley Cottage is a lovely mid-terrace cottage set in the beautiful South Downs National Park village of Slindon, West Sussex. The cottage is very well equipped and presented, making it an ideal cottage for families or groups of friends to stay as it offers accommodation for up to 6 guests (including the use of bunk beds).

There is cosy sitting room on the ground floor which has a flat screen TV with DVD player. This is partly open-plan to the kitchen/dining room. The country cottage style kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and there is a washing machine in a utility room, accessed from the rear garden. The rear patio garden is on 3 levels and makes for a great space for 'al fresco' dining in the warmer months.

On the first floor of the cottage there is the smaller of the 2 double bedrooms, as well as the bunk bed room. The bunk beds are full size, so ideal for children or adventurous adults! There is also a family bathroom which includes a shower over the bath. On the second floor is the larger of the double bedrooms and this room is very well furnished, offering stunning views across the Sussex countryside towards the coast.

There is parking for 2 small cars at the front of the cottage. Additional parking is easily available on the road.

The South East England / Sussex region

This region of the south east is widely regarded as one of the best locations in the U.K. both to visit and also to live in. The weather is better than elsewhere in the country and accessibility to London and other major towns is excellent. Some of the best beaches in the country lie in this region along with the beautiful South Downs, with some stunning countryside to be enjoyed. There are numerous places of historical interest to visit from the local Tangmere War Museum to the open air museum at Singleton.

The Arundel / Slindon area

Slindon is a charming and unspoilt village with its brick and flint houses surrounded by beech woods, farms and open downland. Much of the landscape and many of the houses are in the care of the National Trust - helping to maintain a balance between tradition and practicality for visitors and residents alike. This is a place of history, from saints to smugglers, from churches to duck pond, from Elizabethan mansion to ancient cattle pound. It also boast perhaps the best claim to be the birthplace of cricket and a memorial of bat, ball and wicket bears witness to this fact, as does a cricket club still playing after more than 250 years. Slindon is a haven for ramblers and horse riders, whilst in the autumn people from all over the world come to see the famous pumpkin display.

A few minutes by car you will find the historic cities of Chichester and Arundel, both steeped in history dating back to Roman times. Both offer a great selection of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars, as well as many sporting and leisure activities. The larger cities of Portsmouth and Brighton are easily accessible by road to the west and east respectively. There is a regular rail service from either Chichester or Arundel to London, taking you to London Victoria in just over an hour and a half.

Slindon is also well situated for the famous motor racing and horse racing events at Goodwood. The Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival event are now well established on the international motor racing scene and attract visitors and competitors from all over the world.

Where short breaks are permitted the following tariffs apply:

3 nights: 75% of the weekly rent.

4 nights: 80% of the weekly rent.

5 nights: 85% of the weekly rent.

6 nights: 90% of the weekly rent.

In order to make a reservation more than 60 days in advance, a reservation fee of 30% of the rental value will be required, the balance then being due 60 days before the holiday starts, along with the booking fee of £35.00 and the refundable security deposit of £150.00. Payment can be made by debit card or credit card, or bank transfer. There is a 3% surcharge for credit card payments.
